Do you have any "Bronie" friends?

I don't understand the MLP hype :/ I liked the old 80's cartoon as a kid and tried watching this new one after it blew up, and just couldn't get into it at all. It really just felt like a show for very young kids. I mean, I enjoyed things like adventure time okay but this did not feel like that at all.

I have a bronie friend. He's also a furry, I believe most of them are. It sounds creepy and weird, but knowing him and hearing from him what the others are like they seem like totally normal, super nice and friendly community.

I honestly think the whole creepy hairy old men playing with dolls stereotype is the minority.
Only one of my brony friends like furries and he isn't one himself and another one who is a furry don't like MLP. There are cetainly connection that can be drawn between furries and bronies, but they don't equal each other at all.

I thought bronies became extinct in the last year or two since I barely heard about them lately, compared to a few years ago when half of GAF seemed to have MLP avatars. Guess I was wrong.
Well, the recent seasons of MLP weren't that great tbh. Only a few good episodes wrapped in tons of okay episodes.

It's a nice show. But what really got me was the great fandom. Of course it has dark parts, but people ten to ignore how much great non-creepy fanart, comics, games and videos are out there. It's very amusing.

Looks like a trippy show made for high undergrads, just like Adventure Time.

It isn't. Think of it as a mashup of Ren and Stimpy with Malcolm in the Middle, but a whole lot cleverer with story and consistency. Also, games should appreciate it more for its subtle references.

Not really, aside from maybe one or two online friends. I come from that age group where the majority of my friends thing it is a creepy fetish.

I cannot stand furrys and bronies. 95% of these people annoy me to hell and they should stay in their own community. Do what you want, but please do not talk to people about it except with people that you know are interested in it too. Once some dude told me loves to cuddle with his merchandise and do "other" stuff with it. As soon as I imagined that (I hate my brain) I almost puked.

I've watched and enjoyed every episode of Friendship is Magic and post periodically in the MLP community thread on GAF... but I don't identify as being a brony. Why is this exactly? Well, let me tell you.

I have countless interests that I'm passionate about now or have been in the past. I'm a movie buff. I'm into fantasy football. I'm a Simpsons nerd. I'm a reality TV junkie. I'm passionate about gaming and have worked in the industry. I'm a diehard sports fan of multiple teams. I'm a voice acting enthusiast. I've been a wrestling mark. I'm devoted to my job, my family and my friends.

I don't identify as any single one of these things because I'm a complex human being and, frankly, you'd have a hard time pegging me for any one of them in public except for the fact that you might see me wearing a baseball cap for one of my favorite sports franchises. I use my interests to build common ground with people in any walk of life to have conversations and make connections.

There's nothing wrong with being passionate about a hobby. Goodness knows we all are to some extent... we're posting in the most diehard of gaming forums right now. But identifying as any one single thing probably isn't healthy. Friendship is Magic won't last forever. Broadening one's horizons is always a good thing. And it's never cool to force your interests on others while ignoring any and all social cues... and I don't care whether that interest is My Little Pony, your political affiliation, your religion or anything else. Just have respect for your fellow man and, frankly, you can indulge your free time with any hobby your heart desires and I won't judge you for it.

Cheers, we will.

Isn't there a community Bronie thread?

Latest community HERE, latest OT HERE.

Nicely put.

I don't, but I wouldn't judge somebody based on it.

If you're cool, I'm cool. Who cares what you like to watch?

Same goes for furries. It's not my taste in sex, but who cares? It's not such a big deal.

I don't get the outrage to be honest.

I just found out my best friend is one. He's been hiding it for years. I'm whatever about it. He tries to get me to watch it, but I can't get the will to ever do it. I feel I should though

No. I always assume it's a part of some bullshit internet culture along with obsessive cat stuff and people who talk about meme's in real life.

I don't have any no. A bronie would get a lot of stick in my group. Regarding bronie culture people should be free to do whatever they want, as long as they are not hurting anyone, without being ridiculed but its the one scene that really creeps me out. I just really don't get the scene. Anyway my problem not theirs .

No, never.

I'm pretty open minded, specifically regarding issues that don't impact anyone else, but I don't care to understand this. Given the subject matter and the fact that the show is intended for kids, I find the entire thing to be extremely creepy.

I always laugh when these threads pop up and shake my head when I see people go ewwww, Bronies.

This is a videogame forum. We're all basically nerds here, first and forthmost. We all may have our differences, issues and whatnot.

I'm a brony. Yes, I collect merch, cosplay, wear shirts, etc. However I will not discuss the show with anyone or mention it unless I'm approached about it. I'm also a huge Ghostbusters fan. Doctor Who fan. Jurassic Park fan. Back to the Future fan. Dukes of Hazzard fan. LEGO Enthusiast. Resident Evil fan, Stargate fan, and a few other fandoms.

I can understand if you may have had a bad experience with a weird fan within the fandom. But don't brush the fandom off and mark and call us names. Know the individual, not the general fanbase. Some of us are good people. We just like what we like, and in this case, it is colorful ponies.

The amount of hipocrisy in this thread is amazing.

Apparently Whovians,Trekkies,Browncoats and the likes are a-ok because the show is aimed at then, but Bronies aren't because the show you haven't seen isn't?

Do you know how many people think of Star Wars as some kiddie shit creepy adults are obsessed with? a lot.

Do you know the actual creepy shit that goes down in the Star Wars fandom?

Its pathetic to see people claiming they would abandon a friend if they happened to like a popular thing. Some friends you are.

It reminds me of the many homophobes that dislike homosexuals purely because "ew, gay sex is gross!" tbh

People are gonna like whatever they're gonna like. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it's wrong for others to like it.

It's not hurting anybody, so y'all should stop all that mindless hating :v

That's dumb, why would you buy clothing and then not wear it? I'd call that a waste.

Friend bought it for me actually. I wore it when I was still really into MLP but it's a bit embarrassing now. I still think it's cute though.

It's this one, except mine says "Hooves" instead of "Whooves".

That's a poor comparison, just saying

I've seen them twice in the wild. Once at Video Games Live. Once at an anime con. No surprise. Both times they seemed too awkward for average everyday life. But at least they had a fellow bronies to share the time with.

What do you mean? I almost feel like an old stereotype is being implied.

Tbh I'd reword that. Or do you really think the majority of the MLP fandom are not good people? :P

The general assumption of this thread is that most people are assuming and marking bronies off to be bad people with their encounters of some of the people that take it a little bit overboard. Thus, I'm saying to them that not everyone is like that and to treat people on an individual basis versus what they are doing.

Possibly, I could reword it better, but writing is not my strong point.

This thread is such a silly read, no shit you would be okay with it as long as they aren't creepy/obsessive about their fandom, people in general don't look for creepy/obsessive qualities when making friends.

Idk if it was a thread posted on here or on Reddit (or a combination of both), but my only experience with bronies was someone posting holocaust photos and saying they didn't originally feel any emotion to those photos until they photo shopped a character from MLP in it.

Obviously not all bronies but that's just something that sticks out in my mind.

Hahahaha. That sounds ban-worthy on here. I've seen bans given out for much less.

That person is mentally ill or was trolling hard.

It was reposted here. Hell if it took MLP to get the point home then fine (get to the right answer even if the reasoning isn't where it should be). I'm pretty sure the creator was just indulging in the social awkwardness that is associated with bronies. from that aspect it's pretty funny.

It's not funny, it's sad.

I've always found it disturbing that there would be a group of grown men lurking the girls aisle of Toys R Us every time I took my daughter there. Thank god that this stupid craze is dying down.
