Do you still care about Halo?

I still care about the campaign, story and the general Halo lore. It's hard to not care.

However, I stopped caring about MP more or less. I just can't agree with 343i's direction. I'll care again, if we get the following:

  • A huge redesign of the Forge mode. What we need is a propper tool and not a Lego Block builder. Then we can do things like this.
  • Completely customizable settings for weapons, pick ups and abilities. Rate of Fire, Damage etc.
  • A Custom Game Browser. Being able to search by map/gamemode. Not tied to official matchmaking.
  • Server Selection for official matchmaking. Might be in, but I have a bad feeling about it, due to how the ranking system works.

I am scared that they will drop server selection for multiplayer and the come up with some bullshit reason as to why it had to be dropped. If ranking is gonna be their excuse, then they better explain how chucking people in servers on the other side of the planet can be considered fair.

I have just pre-ordered this, some confirmation would be nice.

I feel like my issue with Halo is that it is too focused on super soldiers and an on-going war. To me, Halo seems like it could be far more expansive and take the shape of far more enduring science fiction franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars if it chucked out any semblance of god-like lore and allowed stories to develop organically from modern situations. To me (despite it being dull from a gameplay perspective), the covenant civil war was far more interesting because it allowed Halo's writers to start fleshing out the alien races of the original games, which I feel like have been criminally underutilised since.

The covenant alone have several races that could have their planets explored, along with their motivations and intricacies that either allow them to be more convincing allies or more feared enemies.

Halo 5 partly takes place on the Elites Homeworld 'Sanghelios'
So you will be getting exactly what you want.

OMFG. I cannot take this shit anymore. What are you talking about please explain. Because first of all Reach multiplayer was the beginning of all the shit everyone hated with nonsense like Armor Lock and all that other bullshit. Which was created by Bungie. Second Halo 5 looks like the best Halo MP since 2. I've actually played it, its the game the fanbase has been waiting for. A modern evolution while retaining the core gameplay. A third the Bungie that created the earlier Halos doesn't even exist! Some Halo devs stayed with Microsoft and others that were around from beginning got fired from Bungie like Marty.

It really just sounds like people come in here with their heads so far up their asses and spout bs that they have no idea about. Honestly. Which makes sense since the thread title was originally super inflammatory and frankly still is.

I get the feeling this post actually has nothing to do with me so I'm not going to try to engage with you over it, but I gotta say... If I threw a 'tantrum' at another poster like this (On account of a post clearly marked as 'opinion'), I don't doubt for a second I'd be banned for it. In fact, I'm sort of half expecting that I'll yet end up being the one banned for you making this post based on my past experiences on this forum :/

I'm the opposite. I can't stand that the Covenant are still so damned involved. The universe feels extremely small in Halo.

Yes. I want a liquid Halo solution I could just inject directly into my veins.

I love the multiplayer, and love playing it with friends. I'm very dissapointed at local multiplayer dying though.

Allthough I really enjoyed Halo CE, I never really understood all the hype. Maybe because I only jumped in with the aniversary edition and i didn't experince it as the revolutionary shooter it was in 2001. I found the campaign of Halo 2 (in mcc) mostly pretty dull, and the same goes for 3 and 4... So i guess I stopped caring after the first.

Then again, I'll probably play Halo 5 anyway, as it looks to be the most interesting fps of this holiday season (bar battlefront, but that is online only)

Well I wasn't very clear. My point is that the covenant are bad and limit any kind of expansion. The individual races of the covenant, however, could be pretty interesting if they broke away from the covenant.

I agree to an extent; Halo 2 got a lot of hate in this thread but it easily had the best world building in the franchise, and Halo 3 was accordingly disappointing as a result.

We will, however, see more of the Covenant in Halo 5 and Halo Wars; already confirmed to be on the Elites homeworld with two of their factions, as well as the reintroduction of Brutes in Halo Wars 2.

Played Halo CE, and Halo 3, which I thought was a masterpiece.

I liked Halo ODST, but Halo: Reach wasn't great for me. I lost interest before the release of Halo 4. I probably won't buy Halo 5 until I play and beat Halo 4, and that may never happen.

I have a ton of respect for people who are good at Halo multiplayer. I'm not terrible at competitive FPS but I am consistently dominated in Halo multiplayer by more skilled players. It's at the point now where I just know not to bother. :)

I'll be back onboard for Halo 6 or 7 on whatever newfangled Microsoft device is powerful enough to support compelling visuals at 60fps AND local multiplayer, at the same time (if only because it looks like 343i is all about that 60fps now)

Until then, I think I'm good. I'm still really bummed that Halo dropped splitscreen.

Halo is my favorite shooter series so, yes.

That being said, this is the first Halo since 2 I'm not getting a collector's edition for. $60 is enough money to spend since I've got a hundred other titles to buy this year.

Halo is back with Halo 5.

God damn is that game gonna be great.

Trust the #butts, always.

Yup.

Pretty much how I feel about Halo 5^

I bough an Xbox 360 last gen for the sole purpose of playing Halo 4...

Let's just say I can't justify buying an Xbox One for Halo 5 (thats if I even had money these days... Lol)

Is that hyperbole? I'd probably have an opinion along the same lines. I'd honestly take a stupid, linear, scripted, dumb-fun CoD campaign over the incoherent mess that was Halo 4's which didn't really know what it wanted to be and just ended up being a snooze.

It also doesn't help that back then, given what we knew of both the campaign and multiplayer, I had actually written MP off. All the changes they made sounded horrible but I was still hyped and believed in the campaign.

To say that my expectations weren't met at the time would be an understatement. But the campaign, even without those expectations, is mediocre. Couldn't even get past the first few levels in MCC.

Maybe you're right and i just dont know what the word hyperbole means . . . ?

What is that list suppose to prove exactly? Even at a glance, I would take the vast majority of that list in a heart beat over Halo 4.

I thought Halo 4 was shit. Like, most people who dislike Halo 4 did so because of the MP. Don't get me wrong, I thought the MP was bad too. But the SP was way worse then the MP for me. Partly because over the years since Halo 1, I've shifted from being MP focused to SP focused and also because it was such a stark drop in quality from prior Halo games.

I bought an Xbox One after Halo 5 got announced so I still very much care about Halo.

I'll be getting it day one.

Not really. Last one I got excited for was 3, Reach was ok but my interest waned pretty quickly. Visuals for 5 look weaksauce so I doubt I'll check it out. I want to see complexity and scope of the world to increase but it's obvious 343 isn't going to do that.

Watch Dogs has a high metacritic score too, that still doesn't invalidate the opinions of the large groups of people who think it was mediocre tripe any more than it invalidates the negative opinions of Halo 4.

I lost interest sometime between Reach and 4. Not sure what happened, used to be a big fan of series since the OG Xbox. I remember buying a Reach Xbox just to be able to play Reach, as my console had a disc-read issue. I just lost interest, and Halo 5 footage hasn't done anything for me.

Every single time i think I have moved on, they pull me back in with those damn vidocs and teaser trailers. Im a sucker for the multiplayer modes too.

So the mods did right I guess by changing the title for the thread, better title thread then what I had. Also From reading the thread , I totally forgot about ODST and Reach even existing

lmao! Obviously I meant generic! How one little letter can alter the entire meaning of a sentence!
I know.

I completely fail to see how it's generic considering I can't think of a single game that plays like Halo though.
No, but people are re-writing history and claiming that 343i has a history of bad launches when really it only includes MCC which they didn't even work on entierly.

Halo 4 worked flawlessly at launch. Halo 5 probably will too.

That doesn't fit with the agenda though!

Yep. Nothing else like it.

I just wish 343 would have taken a few more chances with introducing new races/guns and enemies.

They had the chance to really blow the universe wide open.

Each to their own then but from the list I posted I would take Halo 4 over 90% of them or so.

I totally get Halo 4 isn't a 'fan favourite' and whilst it might not be an amazing Halo game (again, each to their own) I would certainly class it above being the most mediocre AAA fps to be released last gen. That is honestly an astonishing statement for me to read.

And I mean I've played some absolute shite, I've played Rogue Warrior and Shellshock 2 :)

I wasn't posting it for the meta scores, it was just the only place I could see an easy list of the fps released on the 360. I didn't even look at the scores of any game I just wanted to use it as a point of reference.

I've enjoyed all the Halo games. Even 4 with the exception of those QTE segments which just didn't make sense in a Halo game.

I've played all of them split screen though so not sure how much I'm going to like 5. Will probably just pick it up during a sale.

Eh... I dunno.

I used to love halo, Halo CE PC multiplayer was one of my most played online games and still one of my goats even on the original xbox for singleplayer/local mp, played tons of 2, 3 and reach online tons and enjoyed them all as well, and have beaten each campaign at least once.

But I've owned halo 4 for years and still haven't taken it out of the shrink wrap.

It's totally off my hype radar. But if the chance presents itself, I might try it out to see if it ignites any dormant feelings back from the Halo trilogy days.

I'm amazed that they haven't introduced a new set of alien races and things like that.

I feel like the word "generic" no longer has any meaning if people are using it to describe the old Halo games, especially the first one. In fact, the notion is equal parts amusing and embarrassing. Unless people are referring solely to the fact that a space marine fights aliens, which is frankly a small slice of what made Halo what it is.

I still care about Halo in the sense that I keep an eye on it, and want it to continue to be excellent. But Halo 4 was my last Halo game, at least for this generation.

Since I Halo for the Xbox was my first Bungie game, I had a hypothesis that what I loved about Halo was distinctly what they put into it, and that it would not carry over well to another developer. Halo 4 proved that hypothesis. 343 are good people, who have an increasingly clear vision for the future of the series (Halo 4 was half pantomime of Bungie's games, half new direction, and the center did not hold between them), it's just not a future I have any enthusiasm for.

Lots of people are excited for where it's going, but Destiny demonstrated that what I loved about Halo was very much in Bungie's art, design and (in particular) gameplay, and that's not something that is carrying forward with the series.

This is similar to me, although MCC is my last Halo purchase for a while. There's just something that's off about 343i's Halo (in Halo 4, Halo 2:Anniversary MP, and the Halo 5 Beta) that makes me not want to play it.

Halo 4 was one of the best single player campaigns on the X360 for me...but Halo will always be Halo for me. That's why I bought a PS4 instead.
