Does anyone actually level up the Luck stat?

Do you level up Luck?

Who is this stat for exactly? You're just ruining your character and making the game harder by not investing into better stats. Fallout New Vegas is the only time I put a bunch of points into luck, because your other stats already start at a baseline of Average so luck is just a free bonus to crits & gambling.

Does Luck improve your chance of a critical hit? Just level up strength so you're not relying on RNG.

Does Luck improve your chance of item drops? Games often have accessories to boost this anyway, not to mention you can google optimal farming/crafting methods to get the item needed.

Does Luck make it less likely you are ambushed? Thats not even how RPGs have worked for the past 10 years, even Dragon Quest the most traditional JRPG doesn't work that way anymore you can see the enemy out on the field.

Vampire Survivors it is handy to give more options at the level up selection screen. Depends on the build though.

Depends on the game and what my character build is. Arcane is essentially that in Elden Ring and I went for an arcane/faith/Dex hybrid build first time round. Early game was brutal but once you start getting the necessary items/equipment (which is easy because of the increased discovery arcane provides) it really comes in to it's own.

Needs to be a "depends" option for the poll.

It depends on the RPG, some rope it into crit chance taking over the bonus normally reserved for dexterity.

However if it simply alters something such as loot drops I don't take it, unless it locks specific loot drops behind a minimum luck chance, which is extremely rare, I just remember a specific game had this although I have forgotton the name.

I knew a guy who tried to play Morrowind with a Luck/Charisma build. His class was politician, and he was trying to play the game completely using only non-violent methods. He would never attack and tried to always travel with multiple NPCs following him that would fight. He has sooth beast spell, and a few other persuasion-oriented abilities.

... he didn't get very far.

I didn't put "it depends" only cuz that would get 99% of the votes lol just trying to get more of an aggregate sense. I know there's thousands of rpg's and luck is bound to be good in some of them, but I really get the sense that its generally useless. You guys are giving good answers so far tho.

The best I've ever seen is boost to critical hit rate/damage and drop rates attached to Luck. You're right, it's generally not that great. I'm always tempted to put something in it, but it doesn't pay off usually.

It can be useful in the Shin Megami Tensei series. Before they patched it Dark Souls 3 had a broken build with luck.

He got a feel of the real world at least.

I tend to ignore the Luck stat, oftentimes it just raises your item finding, or gives you the ability to resist debuffs. Not worth the points when as you said most games have items that
can do what the Luck stat does, often better.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Don’t see it much in games I play now but I did back in the PSO days.

I often prefer something that occurs 100% of the time instead of a chance, like strength that will always increase my damage, opposed to something that might occur.

Exceptions are games like Fallout where you unlock certain things at certain luck levels, because this is again granted.

No. It’s already guesswork whether the normal stats are worth spending points on so I’m not going to spend it on some fluffy abstract Luck.

In New Vegas luck effects your win rate for gambling, after a certain threshold you get 100% win rate and can clear out all the casinos

In Dark Souls 3, Luck scales well with a certain sword. It used to be an OP build. But normally its not that great, you can also boost item drops with consumables.

If it does anything tangibly useful relative to points in other stats, yes.

If it doesn't, no.

I think that's pretty obvious, right?

It’s one of those things I mess with when I’m bored of the game and want to make all the “bad choices” and make my character look ridiculous and name him “Sonofabitch” or whatever. I rarely if ever invest in the luck stat on normal runs.

do not tempt fate do not contrain Wonder Woman's thighs do not do not
Usually atleast in the games ive played in the past.

Luck - Increases crit%, Increase chance of status, Increases chance of cheat death, Increase rare drop rate etc etc.
Sometimes ill be playing a game where my character had high luck restart with a new build forgetting I had high luck and be shook at how shit my character is.
