Does anyone else have issues with PS4's Rest Mode?

I put the PS4 into rest mode once, and when I went to bring it back on the video output simply wouldn't happen. That was the last time I ever used rest mode.

I rarely ever turn my PS off all the way. If I do, it's to move it into the other room for capture work. When it was first release it worked, a update broke it and another fixed it and there has been no looking back. Works great. I only buy digital games so I can remote play and it's nice to start my downloads while at the office on Tuesdays from my phone or computer and have it done by the time I get home.

Whats the size of the hard drive of people having problems.? I've heard that 2Tb HDs can sometimes have problems, are you on a hybrid drive?

Not sure if I should create a new thread or bump this old one, apologies if this was the wrong choice.

But I just bought a new PS4 (COD bundle) and it won't turn on at all after rest mode. I was so confused the first time that I actually returned it to GameStop for a new one, but when it happened with the second one too I started to google and found there's problems with rest mode.

Here's the specific issue I'm having: if I have it in any rest mode, even with resume games disabled, it won't turn on via remote or the button (not even in to safe mode or anything). I have to pull the power plug, wait a minute, put it back in and then it goes through the verifying hard disk check and scolds me for not shutting it down correctly.

If I fully shut it off, it seems to turn back on no problem.

I really wanted to use the remote play feature with my vita, but if I can't leave it in standby at all then that won't be very useful.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Still as many people having issues? Did I somehow get two busted ps4s and should take this one back and try a third?

I have had the issue where it disconnects from the internet while downloading a game a few times. But other than that it's been fine. I do keep my PS4 turned off unless I need to download something, though. Same with Xbox One.

Some individual games have some strange performance issues when coming out of Standby but the mode itself seems to work fine.

Do you turn off your router at all when your PS4 is in rest mode? Anytime I disconnected my modem or router after resting my PS4 while being connected to PSN I could never resume and have to manually shut down my PS4. Took me a while to figure out what was the issue.

If you never disconnect your router and always have it on, than this is moot. But if do, than try a test and disconnect from the internet in the settings menu on your PS4 before resting and try to resume it later as usual. If you still can't wake it up than it is a different issue unrelated to mine.

Mine works but my issue is that it dies not seem to charge my gamepad on sleep mode. When i turn it on the battery on my pad is almost always with just two bars instead of three. Really annoying. Is somebody having this issue?

Never had an issue. Funnily enough, I was just thinking about how useful a feature it is, and to go back to not having it now would be unthinkable. It's probably my number one feature this gen.

Mine goes in standby mode, but once it starting to check for updates/upload saves, it goes to low power state. That is expected behaviour, except it does not download or upload anything, and stays in this power state (pulsing orange light). Therefor I haven't been able to use standby for over 5 months now.

I have a launch PS4 and use it almost daily. I had an issue maybe twice since they introduced the feature. I'm very happy with it.

No I never disconnect my router, but I do live in a fairly old building in SF with some crappy wiring, so maybe the router is getting temporarily just shut off and on just long enough to bug the PS4? Thank you for the suggestion. I'll try disconnecting the internet before it sleeps. That certainly wont help me with my wanting to do remote play, but at least I'll have a better idea what the problem is.

It's been working fine with me. Are there any specific apps or games that you know to give you more trouble than others?

It's a brand new PS4, so I don't own a ton of stuff yet, the games I've hard a problem with are: Planetside 2, Firewatch, and PS Now. I also did a test where I just booted up the system, started no apps or games, and put it in to sleep mode and still had the issue.

Again, I have the resume play turned off. I don't really care about that. I just want it to be able to connect to the internet to download system / game updates, and hopefully activate remote play without me having to go in to the living room to turn on the system manually.

Yeah my PS4 literally will not turn on after it's gone in to rest mode. I push the power button and it beeps once, the light flashes blue for one second, and then it goes quiet. If I push the eject button it beeps three times (I've read that's what its supposed to do when there's no disc in the tray).

Holding the power button to go to safe mode doesn't work either. I have to unplug it for a minute or two and plug it back in for it to turn on at all.

This is my second PS4 now too. Because when it happened with the first I thought I had a defective unit so I returned it.

Yes. My issue is that turning on/waking up the console before turning on my TV/switching to the correct HDMI input means I get no video signal and can't do anything unless I turn the console completely off (holding down the power button for 10 seconds) and restart it.

Then it has to rebuild the database and yell at me about turning off the console/unplugging the power at the wrong time.

Does your tv have hdmi-cec ? If it does, enable it on the tv and on the ps4. If your ps4 goes through a receiver first than enable it on the receiver as well.
This how my ps4, receiver and tv are setup - just press the playstation button and the receiver and tv automatically turn on and set the correct inputs. No need to even touch the remote.
Oh shit I just realized how old the thread and the post I responded to are!

So a fair number still having this eh? I wonder if there's any pattern. Do you have a third party hard drive? Are you on wireless? Using HDMI-CEC to turn the TV on?

If mine's in rest for a few hours sometimes when I turn it on it will pulse the blue light forever, or sometimes without me turning it on it will start pulsing the orange light which I've come to know means I won't be able to resume it.

I've tried the fixes for it, reinstalling the same update through safe mode, rebuilding databases, but it's still a tossup.

I did put in a second gen Momentus XT, I wonder if that has anything to do with it, but many others picked the XTs as well for the hybrid speed.

This is the 1200 model so I don't believe it's the earlier HDMI bug. Maybe I'll disable HDMI-CEC though and see if it's that.

It's also on wireless and loses the connection infrequently, I wonder if my router being set to restart every night (cron job) has something to do with it? Will they bog out if they lose PSN connection? I don't want to remove that job though as it keeps the router stable.

And I'd just not use rest mode, but for larger game downloads being faster on it.
