And, despite its age, remains the benchmark.
GTAIV is a benchmark in the sense that it was prettier and inferior to its predecessor, and just flat out inferior to several sandbox games that came out after it.
And, despite its age, remains the benchmark.
But what does that mean in terms of the specific comment I'd made?
GTA IV is one of the only games released 4 years ago that is still at or near the top 10 on the Xbox Live charts. If that's not proof that a good chunk of fans (still) liked it, then I don't know what is.
Must be Xbox Live exclusive.
PS3 has no stats like this, but explain me this:
after 4 years, Wanted trophy is still at a super low 3.04%.
You say that so many people like it that much and also play it all the time. So why is it that this trophy is that rare. You just need to play multiplayer in some sort of way (except free roam) and then you will get it sooner or later. Definitely within 4 years, even if it's played just a bit every now and then.
Hell, Fly the Coop has a higher rate (around 4%) and that's really hard to get.
Oh wait, I just researched a bit - achievement-wise it seems to be even worse. It's around 1% only.
Maybe there are a few GTA-nuts in those tiny percentages that really enjoy it all the time and play it every day. Just like there are people that play Counterstrike every day for years and years. But those are not the majority of players.
If I remember the XBL stats aren't necessarily "multiplayer". SP games are in there too like XBL games.
I don't know what you're talking about.Rockstar needs to worry about GTA5 not controlling like putrid ass.
No people keep on playing it to show people how bad it actually is, right??.......right? lol.
Oh God, I need more like these, please.Hilarious.
I don't know what you're talking about.

Euphoria was awesome, actually. Of course it was also responsible for Niko having the turning radius of a small truck, but oh well.
And is sleeping dogs really that good?
I ignored it because activision dropped it and it didn't look that great in previews a few months ago.

He's an uninformed gamer who can't come to conclusions about the quality of a game on his own and relies on branding, marketing, and advertising to do it for him.The fuck. Meaning what exactly?

Call of Duty-syndrome.
Those franchises were all built from the ground up through initial quality to get where they were.A new GTA release is an event, like Halo or CoD. The game doesn't even need to be the best of the genre yet it'll sell millions easily.
i don't think anyone's going to be commending Sleeping Dogs for moving the genre forward

Grand Theft Auto III is one of the most influential video game releases of all time, Halo is almost entirely responsible for the popularity of the console FPS (along with Goldeneye), and Call of Duty 1 and 2 were regarded as the pinnacle of WWII shooters in the mid-2000's. CoD2 was regarded as the best Xbox 360 launch title, at the time.
I'll disagree with this one million times over. Interesting stories that haven't been done a million times over (Sleeping Dogs obviously draws influence from movie classics like Hard Boiled, but name me another couple of games where you play as an undercover cop in Hong Kong) are hard to come by, and well-written, likable characters like Wei Shen are even rarer. And that's in video gaming as a whole, not even just the "open-world" genre.i don't think anyone's going to be commending Sleeping Dogs for moving the genre forward

what are your thoughts? Has sleeping dogs stepped up the game in any way that rockstar will be 2nd fiddle with GTA V?
Maybe you should specify "Every GTA from III onwards", and even then I would still disagree with you.And every GTA has had a better story than Sleeping Dogs.
I've been out of the "new game series coming soon" loop for a long time, so thank you for this thread. Caused me to check out Sleeping Dogs (reviews, trailers, gameplay videos) and I went ahead and bought it online for download. ($45 on Amazon downloads, GMG wouldn't accept my credit card for their $36 price (after coupon))
Looks amazing so far.
Also, new IP's are rarely "an event" because they are unproven. Watch the fanfare that will follow Sleeping Dogs 2 (if they do it).
I'm pretty sure GTA3 wasn't "OMG this game is going to be amazing", but ended up that way due to quality. That caused Vice City (and beyond) to be "OMG this game is going to be amazing".
I never played True Crime, but apparently Sleeping Dogs is a reworked True Crime 2. So it's kind of a new IP, but not entirely? Whatever the case I hope we see more at this level of quality. Just as long as it doesn't end up going down the path that Mafia 2 did.

Of course not.
Of course not.
Definitely no..
So which open-world game had a better hand to hand combat system than Sleeping Dogs? Just curious, because I want to play it.
Ya, I removed your quote from my post like 10 seconds after I hit submit, you were quick enough to catch it though.Yo, you didn't mention that shit in the post that I quoted. Maybe you should read it, because I didn't disparage the combat at all.
Still, If Arkham City counts I preferred the combat there. And I thought RDR had better gunplay. Sleeping Dogs is fun though, I enjoyed my time with it.
Good god, no. Sleeping Dogs has the worst camera and driving in any open world game ever made.
It either needs mechanics on par with Sleeping Dogs or it has to be as ludicrous as Saint's Row 3 for me to buy it. I'm only 1 person though when millions will but it no matter how bad it is.
Sleeping Dogs had pretty basic arcade handling with a cool shunt system and action hijacks, how is the shit in GTA4 better? Also what camera issues did you have? I'm on PC and it's never been an issue.
I'll agree with that, and Sleeping Dogs' camera control is pretty terrible to me, both on foot and while driving, but especially while driving.Because the cars have weight and take skill to drive efficiently. Thats how.
