Does Snake deserve a second shot in the new SSB?

He's not comimg back. I'm sure Sakurai and Co. are smart enough not to piss off Iwata after Metal Gear keeps NOT coming to Nintendo systems. Even Snake Eater 3D was overshadowed by the HD trilogy ports.

I'm gonna miss Snake's tight ass though...

Nah, in the context of the series he's an irrelevance; 3D Snake is a Sony / Microsoft character. Let him appear in PlayStation All-Stars or Killer Instinct instead of tossing away a roster place for no good reason.

Most people don't really associate Metal Gear with Nintendo and I think Snake's inclusion was primarily because Kojima asked Sakurai to put Snake in the game. I'd like to think he'd ask him again this time around.

Well, when Kojima first asked it was around the time of Melee when Metal Gear Solid was actually relevant on the Gamecube. When Sakurai put him in Brawl he was just "keeping his promise" when he told Kojima he'd put Snake in the next game since Melee was too far in development, even if the timing wasn't appropriate at all (which it wasn't).

Can't see this happening again.

He should be already there because we saw Kojimbo appear in the WiiU compilation trailer.

>:D

I don't even know why he's in there if Nintendo systems don't even get mainline MGS's until way later.

I cannot understand this logic at all. It's a game featuring iconic characters the developers thought would be fun to throw into the game. I already mentioned the Ice Climbers and their active status. What about Earthbound/Mother characters? I say we boot their asses out of there until they start making more games! Why do I need to be reminded of those characters when there aren't new games promoting Nintendo platforms anymore?

Didn't the Miiverse leak suggest that the Wii U would be getting a Metal Gear game in some form?

Wii Fit Trainer will wreck that witch's shit.

*Sigh* If only she was real, she and I would be a perfect match. ;_;

Hell, Snake had more games than the Mother Series on Nintendo consoles. Here a scary and sad thought.

You are an albino mannequin into sport?
Also, couldn't you simply go to a Gym and pick up a girl who look like that easily? All my female cops friend look like her, minus the Yoga.

I love these crazy conspiracy theories SSB Nintendo purists have wrapped around inside their heads to justify why Snake was in Brawl but why that was a super special case that can never happen again.

Lol you really comparing Nintendos own properties to a 3rd party character? Nintendo can do whatever the hell they want with them.

No, Snake isn't even Snake anymore. Until Hayter is back, Snake can eat a dick.

I wonder if Hayter would accept the role of Snake in SSB4. I know many voice actors wouldn't return after being replaced, but he is a fun guy.
And also, that would be Solid Snake.

I heard Kojima kidnapped Sakurai's family and threatened to murder them if Snake didn't get a spot in Brawl.

That doesn't even make sense. The Ice Climbers etc. you mentions are NINTENDO assets. The can put whatever characters they want in their game. Snake isn't. The devs didn't put Snake in Smash because it would be fun, it was Kojima begging Sakurai to put his character into the game.

I'd love for Snake to be back, he was hilarious and very fun to play as in Brawl.

I don't know how the whole licensing progress to get third parties into Smash works anyway, and if Kojima still wants him this time around, I kind of see him not coming back, but I'd love to be wrong on this one.

The point is that some are basically arguing that only active ambassadors of Nintendo platforms should be in the game. "What have you done for me lately?" Me? I'm not arguing anything. I have no special criteria for who should or shouldn't be in the game other than characters I think are cool. For instance, I really want Little Mac in the game. Do I have some eloquent justification for it? No. I just like the character, and Nintendo has the rights to him anyway.

Melee came out in 2001. MGS TTS wasn't even revealed until E3 2003 and came out in 2004. MGS wasn't at all relevant to Nintendo but Kojima wanted him in, and if Melee hadn't been so far in development, he would've made it.

There is no precedent. There is no spurned-lover story here. Kojima doesn't "owe" anything. If Sakurai and Kojima decide that Snake'll be a good fit and should still be in, he'll be in. Otherwise not.

No. Especially not with the flop roster we have so far. Rather have someone who actually has substantial Nintendo history

I don't want any characters dropped :-/

This.

Get your shit together, GAF. Stop telling Sakurai to take out the amazing third-party addition we already have.

I'd say he deserves it, but at the same time there are so many characters I'd rather have than him.

I prefer tons of other character possibilities over Ice Climbers or Jigglypuff but I'm not gonna ask for them to be removed out of selfishness.

Like Sonic and Megaman?
If Sakurai didnt want Snake in the game, he would not have put it in the game. If he accepted all the request of people, we would have a roster full of Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Tastunoko characters.

They don't need to be active on a Nintendo platform to get in. When its someone like snake who is only seriously active on other platforms, then you have a problem.

And before someone says Sonic and megaman, Sonic is fine for obvious reasons (Nintendo x Sega partnership, several Nintendo exclusive games this gen and last). What was the last Megaman console/handheld game (barring XOVER) that didn't get a nintendo release? X3 in 2004?

There's no way. For one, Snake was never iconic enough to belong in the first place. But the way Kojima seems to be actively against ever working on a Nintendo console, not even considering ports, should be enough of a reason. At this point having a Kojima character is the same as having a Sony character. Like, they might as well add in Kratos. Just give his moveset to a Nintendo character that could conceivably use explosives and move on.

I think it's passed now. It's great he was in it for one game, but he's hardly a mainstay. I think fans of the MGS series are obviously going to want him to return, but to the rest of us? He's had a shoddy 3DS port in the last 10 years. Time to let go. Kojima's son can bloody well play something else.

I'd take Bayonetta over Snake any day of the week.

This. Jeanne, too, or even a character from The Wonderful 101 (I would love it if we could play as Bayonetta).

Also, I don't think it's right to put him in games when his creator seems to make excuses not to support/bring his games to their consoles.

He certainly has no business sharing a fighting arena with the likes of Wolf O'Donnell and Wii Fit Trainer.

Snake definitely deserves to be back in the game because he was a fun character and played off the craziness of Smash extremely well. I do wonder if Sakurai needed to call up Kojima for permission to use Snake again or if Kojima would be the one to initiate contact like in Melee. I hope someone asks Kojima about Snake in the new Smash, if only to see what sort of response he would give.

About Sonic and Megaman. Have you been following the discussion or not?

And....uh....Sakurai and Kojima are friends, that kinda helps.

LOL

I don't mind Snake but if Konami is going to have representation in Smash it should really be a Castlevania character, particularly Simon. Castlevania represents that Nintendo nostalgia just as much as Mega Man and Nintendo's properties.

Yes, definitely should come back with Hayter's voice. And he wasn't just on Gamecube and 3ds (as someone said), but was also on the NES.

Either way, I'd be glad to have him back, as well as having a Big Boss skin. :)

I said you were comparing, not arguing. It was a poor comparison.

And when it comes to Nintendo characters being iconic is irrelevant. Sakurai has already said that not just any 3rd party character will get in the new smash just because. Wackiness and gameplay variation has nothing to do with it. They might as well put a ninja turtle in the game if it was so surely Ninja Turtles have more games on Nintendo consoles that ice climbers, punch out, starfox, fzero etc.

Metal Gear is one of the longest running, still active gaming series around. Try again.

Which was never associated with Nintendo in any meaningful way. The only Metal Gear games to come out for a Nintendo system past the original NES ports almost 30 years ago were shoddy ports of MGS1 and 3. And I guess the Game Boy Color game.

And just because you're long-running doesn't mean you're Mega Man or Sonic.

Guy with Snake avatar thinks Snake is on the same iconic level with regards to the history of video games as Mario, Mega Man, and Sonic. News at 11.

I feel like we're going in circles here. Really, the gist of it amounts to "I don't want him there because of stupid fanboy bullshit." Because we just keep shifting criteria around because of convenience.

When did I say I don't want him in? He was a great character. However, I found it a puzzling addition for the aforementioned reasons.

Yes, yes, he's iconic. But is that icon status because of his relationship with Nintendo? I'm leaning towards no.

but the Castlevania characters are no longer relevant atm, outside of not-Alucard and Dracula
at least until LoS is over.
