I fell in love with DKC2's "Primal Rave" a few months ago.

David Wise is a master. Shame he isn't working on this.
We have Kenji Yamamoto arranging his work. This should be exactly what you guys want.

...and to keep things even more on-topic: Have there been any comments on the inclusion of animal buddies yet? I mean apart from the "everything you loved from DKC will be there yadda-yadda"?

Not really, I'd rather have David Wise himself on it. :P I don't like the sound quality in the trailer either...

If Retro will manage to compose a song for DKCR which is comparable to the awesomeness of the selected tracks of DKC 1 and 2, only then I and I mean really only then they could be compared to the gods among men RARE have been in the mid 90s....

But I am pretty sure that 90% of the songs will be just remixed classics, which is also good thing if done right.

hopefully. I don't want something similar to Brawl's Sticerbrush Symphony remix (e.g. something vastly inferior to the original) [/impopular opinion]

Wait, David Wise isn't doing the music? Really? What the fuck, Nintendo? You worthless fuckers.

Fuck Kenji Yamamoto. Put David Wise on the game or cancel it.

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

What I loved about DKC2 were all the little touches. For instance, in the beehive levels, when you've got the kongs stuck to the honey on the walls and sit idle for a minute, they'll scoop up a little bit of the honey and eat it.

My goodness - just got around to watching one of those gameplay vids from the Mine-cart levels, I know it's on the front page...

- but goddamn: THIS IS DKC and then some.

Sooooo... what's going on with those
puzzle pieces?

Replacing the
DK coins
and filling the same approximate role as
NSMBWii's Star Coins?

DKC Returns seems to have its share of little touches too :). You can blow flowers for instance, and the background shakes when DK pounds the ground. Hope there are many more.

No, DKCR is also the offiziell Banjo and Kazooie sequel =)

I don't know that it'll be possible for Retro to live up to David Wise's talent... Maybe that's why they're re-using tunes from the original DKC games. I'm sure they'll do a good job, but it's frustrating that Nintendo wasn't able to identify David Wise as one of the key factors that made the DKC games so great and hire him for this project.

I'm sorry, but Yamamoto is ten times the composer Mr. Wise is. Ok, maybe only TWO times, but still. Yamamoto is my favourite game composer by far. Heck, they're both amazing and at the top of the ranking list of game composers, and when you get one amazing composer remixing tracks by another amazing composer (and hopefully making lots of his own awesome original tracks), there's really nothing to complain about! All signs point to this game getting an incredible soundtrack.

I actually think much of their music is quite similar in tone or "feel". Yamamoto's "Red Soil" from Super Metroid or Phendrana Drifts from Metroid Prime could easily replace some of Wise's mellower DKC-tracks.

This is a re imaginening of Donkey Kong Country by an entirely different studio. If this were DKC4 by Rare then maybe you'd have a point (Although David Wise didn't compose much of the music in DKC3).

Edit: I'd prefer original music by Retro instead of remixed, however

Actually, me, too.

The music is by far my favorite part of the series (which is not to say it's the only good part, obviously, or I'd just listen to the soundtrack), but I always prefer new music to old remixes when a new game comes out.

Sure, a few callbacks here and there are nice, but I don't want it ALL to be old shit.

I agree. While I love the old music I sure would enjoy some new music for me to love as well. I think Super Mario Galaxy 2 had a nice mix of new and old themes. If they could do something similar for DKC:R I'd be happy.

I think it's every bit as epic as the songs above. :) One of my favourites in the original game!

after playing it nonstop after I rediscovered it...
yeah your right...

absolutely right.

So yesterday I decided to load up my save file of Donkey Kong Country 2 on the Wii and was really surprised at just how amazingly it’s aged.

It’s still so fun, but damn is it brutally hard! I don’t know how I managed not to smash my TV to bits all those years ago when I finished it. :lol

Yeah, SMG2 (and SMG1) is what I had in mind when I typed that out. A decent amount of callbacks/remixes, as well as a ton of awesome new music.

Ok, I just finished the original DKC.

Definately the best to come out of this game is the presentation, especially the music, and even there it can't hold a candle to DKC2.
Surprised at how short it was, finished with 72% but these extras don't really interest me.
The levels varied from ok to great, but nothing really outstanding.
It holds up very well though, the controls work like a charm, had a blast playing it.

I'll probably move to DKC2 in the coming months, I've never gotten all Hero coins, not even close. So that'll keep me entretained.

Dunno if this has been posted by this guy made a remix album of Donkey Kong
music

"This is my tribute to the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES, but mainly to the man behind the great soundtrack, David Wise. He is one of my favorite music producers and has been a huge inspiration to me. All the tracks on the album are based on a sample from the soundtrack. Then I have mashed these samples to either hip hop or RnB acapellas. On top of this i have added alot of my own production like drumloops, basslines, effects, samples and synths. I also have to thank "Pinkoloss", an amazingly talented friend of mine, for making the fabulous cover art. I recommend you to visit his blog (adress is above)."

David Wise left Rare late last year. He's a freelancer now, which is why many of us were hoping he'd be attached to DKCR. Given the game has been in the works since 2008, I imagine Wise wasn't available when production on the soundtrack began. Here's hoping he's asked to work on the sequel, if there is to be one.
