Rare is having a bad time I would imagine.

Between Donkey Kong Country Returns and Goldeneye, like their two main babies, are in other hands, and really getting more press than anything they've done this generation
Rare is also not the rare it once was.

they have made a pretty good game this gen with viva pinata. but banjo and kazooie was dissapointing, kameo was meh and pd0 was a mess.

To the people arguing about the graphics of the original DKC versus DKCR - keep this in mind - The graphics in the SNES DKC were ground breaking at the time. DKCR isn't. That's not to say that it looks bad, but I do think there is some merit to be said about the original. On a somewhat related note, as good as Retro is, Star Fox Adventures is still one of the best display of graphics for any GC or Wii game. Simply put, Rare put out some bad ass graphics. I'll still be there day one for DKCR though.

However, looking forward I think DK is need for another make-over. The character model isn't as appealing as it once was. Since Nintendo has been collaborating with third parties, I'd be interested to see what Platinum Games/Kamiya could do. Can you imagine more emphasis on action and the color palette that would be brought to the table?

you got eye problems..

Who cares. Mario Sunshine looks better then Mario 64, but nobody would suggest the former is a better game.

Jungle Beat looks better, because, guess what, it appeared on gamecube. But what about the rest? Music, lastability, gameplay, art design and content richness are all far superior in Donkey Kong Country. Especially DKC2.

kamiya wanted to work on starfox or so i heard.

DIXIE WEARS A BANDANA!?!?!?!!

Also, animations from DKC2 were pretty amazing! And they were all renders -> sprites!

Interesting. Not my first choice but it could be crazy enough to work! I'm probably one of the few that while flawed, saw a lot of promise in Star Fox: Assault. I don't think I would mind the on foot shooting sections nearly as bad with the Wii Remote and Nun Chuck for controls.

..................I know I'm not helping myself, but I didn't even notice that 'till now.

The game looks great, by the way. Day one purchase.

I was just thinking.....the manual had better be in full colour and full of awesome stuff like pics of every location, all the enemies, all the animal friends etc.

I was having a look at the manual for both Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2 last night and I had forgotten just how fantastic they are! :D

I can't think of the last time Nintendo didn't print their game manuals in full color. Besides, DKCR's manual better have Cranky comintating on how games these days suck on every page.

Why set yourself up?

I fail to see why Rare would give a damn about that ugly new "Goldeneye" game. Maybe DKCR, but sure as hell not that other thing.

rare is doing honorable jobs like making kinect sports or the xbox avatars

im believe they are proud of their new jobs they get to work on

Considering it'll probably outsell all of their recent efforts....:lol

People complaining about the graphics? really?
watch the trailer again. it looks super awesome in my book. way better than prerendered DKCs and Jungle beat

the new goldeneye game looks pretty damn good and they put lots of effort into it.
Rare went down the shitter since they left Nintendo.

Because even a sad little remake of a game from 13 years ago inspires jealousy when you're stuck working on a remake of Wii Sports.

Man, when I first saw the artwork for DKC2 when I was little, I thought Dixie was supposed to be a boy carrying a giant banana, not a chick with a ponytail. I didn't realize she was supposed to be a she until my older brother corrected me and also laughed at me.

I'm pretty sure I was at least mildly retarded as a kid.

I wouldn't go that far. Like other Retro games, the game has great texturing and details, but it's lacking in effects. Jungle Beat uses more bump mapping, fur shading, and other little effects that DKCR doesn't use. Kinda like how Other M pushes more TEV effects while Prime 3 has better textures and art.

What are TEV effects?

So you mean DKCR WILL look better than Jungle Beat then?
I mean if we learned anything from the whole Conduit experience is that art style >>>>>>>> effects any time of the day.

Jungle Beat wasn't exactly lacking in art design though. The game looked fantastic.

Well yeah, but Retro is not exactly known for their lack of talent either (and for that matter Project M featured some talented people, Prime 3 still look better though, that's how much out of this world they are)

Oh, I think Retro are outstanding, but I'm just saying the Conduit comparison wasn't an overly good one. EAD Tokyo are galaxies above High Voltage in art design.

Yeah I see what you mean, that's just the most extreme example I could find :lol
EAD Tokyo and HVS shouldn't be mentionned on the same scale :lol

Jungle Beat had both artistic talent and shader effects. I'm not saying DKCR is ugly mind you, I think it looks great. I'm just disappointed that it's missing some of graphical polish of Jungle Beat. It's like a no win situation for me. I think DKCR does have better texturing, but Jungle Beat looks cooler with all the effects.

I think overall DKCR looks better, but I do share your disappointment with Retro's inability to explore the TEV.

I always found it weird that they seemed the only one unable to do that at Nintendo.
I mean when you look at WW and Mario Sunshine you'll see plenty of effects everywhere and all (let's not get started on Pikmins and DKJB).
But retro? nope 1 or 2 effects here and there, the rest being supported by sheer prowess of the models and textures :lol
Compare Galaxy to Prime 3 and you'll see what I mean, Prime 3 is absolutely gorgeous but it's not due to the effects pushed there.

I would like to see some 2P options improved from the original DKC's. A couple ideas that come to mind:

- Competitive mode where you race each other through each level (split screen, of course)
- Gears of War style co-op where if one player gets hit, the other has some period of time to save them. eg. Dixie gets hit and starts crying, so Diddy has to run over and high five her. You could probably do this mode without split screen.

And other modes that allow both players to be doing something all the time.

EDIT: And reading the op, looks like they have already improved 2P substantially.

I know. I mean, I can only imagine how much better Corruption would look with a few shading effects. Thankfully with 3DS things will be much easier to implement.

I like JB's clean and flashy visuals, but making a warthog shiny and putting a furry bush of hair on is head does not make an attractive looking game. :lol

That's because the camera is zoomed in. I couldn't find any good screens of Jungle Beat online. Jungle Beat has some amazing backgrounds and effects combined. It's just baffling that Retro doesn't try to push it just a little more. Not to mention even the box art of DKCR has a furry DK on the cover.

Well, Retro is a western dev company, and TEV isn't exactly user friendly.
If they do make a 3DS game, though, I think it'll blow minds.

I fully expect a lot of 3DS games to look better than 90% of Wii's library, even though the system can't push as many triangles.

The tech demos made in 2 months already look better than 90% of the Wii's library.

I remember an interview where Retro said that they are favoring Texture-Quality to Shader Implementation. This can greatyl be seen in the look of there games output.

But if this argument still counts for them in there future games for Wii2 and 3DS, then it would become pretty much embarrassing.

I don't know, I think if they don't make 3D mandatory, it's possible the 3DS also has a higher polygon count than the Wii.

Yeah, Retro really needs to expand more. They seem to be just making 1 game every few years. We need Retro 3DS games too!!

Jungle Beat makes for terrible fucking screenshots, but it's one of the best looking games on the GC, hands down.

Same deal with the Prime games, actually.

True, but for now I'm taking some of the demos (like the Resident Evil one) with a grain of salt.

looking through the E3 assets again, the only ones (thrid party) I say are Wii-comparable are DOA, DJ Hero, MGS, Kingdom Hearts, RE, Samurai Warriors, and Street Fighter

While I think DKCR looks much better, I do appreciate the effects in DKJB.
You could tell who never played JB when Galaxy came out because people would be pissing themselves over graphical effects that the former already pulled off years earlier :lol

Yep I'm fine with Retro taking over.

You used a gif of the best looking part from the new game, versus the worst screenshot I've ever seen of DKJB. Jungle Beat had great visuals especially for the time.
