So I'm really enjoying learning Dota 2. I have some issues with it (the first part of the learning curve consisting solely of memorizing massive amounts of information) but it's definitely an enjoyable game with you have two evenly match teams.
I want to bring up one concern I have with the game though and hear throughts from people who've been playing for a while.
As a video game there's one thing that really come across as a major flaw in Dota. The games last too long when there's an unevenly matched team. I think that if one team is destroying the other then they should be able to sweep up quickly. As far as I've seen, this doesn't happen, with the game still taking anywhere between 12-30 minutes for the dominating team to claim their victory.
What do you think about this? If this is how it usually is shouldn't this be changed? Even if it's as simple as allowing the losing team to forfeit (the most obvious solution).
League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth have a concede/surrender option, where the whole team has to be in agreement to use it. In HoN, usually there are times when someone is spamming a concede vote just because the other team got First Blood quickly, so that can get annoying.
That said, I don't think that's a reason to exclude it from Dota 2, and in matches where you have a picking mishap, or it's a complete stomp, you should be able to use it instead of waiting it out. It does get interesting when crazy comebacks happen (which I have been a part of before). There was one game where they got one of our Ancient towers down, and we were still on their T3 towers in all lanes. The other team would not push and was just turtling, so we had more carries, got farmed, pushed through and won!
The concede vs. no concede issue has been brought up a few times on Dota 2 GAF. I agree that it should be there, but I think it might need to have some limits on it, such as not allowing it until 3 towers are down, or a certain number of difference between kills on the teams, or something like that.
Tin foil hat time: I bet one reason why concede isn't in the game yet is because of Valve's monetization model. Presumably Dota 2 will have an item drop system similar to TF2 and if you can forfeit in 15 minutes with the intention of getting hats then that will cut into Valve's bottom line.
Valve is also probably trying to find a balance between allowing people to concede when the score is 3-30 15 minutes in and not wanting people to quit if they give first blood.
That may somewhat fit into my theory. I noticed in the Hero responses, they all say some variation of "It's in the bag!" for their taunt. Perhaps that refers to the backpack somehow? One that was particularly interesting was Spectre's:
The fullness of our victory bag is inevitable!
