There's a let's hate valve party going on right now.
the game is in beta, holy shit. If the community shows a strong desire for a certain feature they will probably provide it at some point. I imagine they're working on an in-game solution.
They also could have chosen to close the backdoor solution only once the official one got to a decent state.the game is in beta, holy shit. If the community shows a strong desire for a certain feature they will probably provide it at some point. I imagine they're working on an in-game solution.
Nice fanboy excuse for bad community relations. What's have your tongue perpetually up Gabe's butt?

privacy, lol, there's no doubt the only reason valve cares is because they plan to implement and monetize their own system and don't want the competition

Your meltdown in this thread is embarrassing.
Valve shouldn't even tell you if you win or lose at the end of the game, everyone should get hats, no victory screens or anything. Don't even keep track of wins/losses, who needs those, just play the game for fun, doesn't matter who wins.
or because they were unofficially reverse engineering data with no concern to Steam privacy settings and with no real Valve control over the data.
It's not a good business idea to hedge your entire business on an unofficial API.
oh no someone saw you just lost as venomancer. your privacies! call the fbi!
why the fuck would you care if someone took your posts and posted them elsewhere to laugh at you? you think people don't already do this? you think anyone gives a shit? rofl
How do you think GAF would respond if someone start pulling important data from the forum regardless of privacy settings AND started charging for portions of said data?
I get why people are pissed at Valve as Dotabuff was an extremely useful site. But I cannot blame Valve for shutting down a backdoor, during a beta and as the site was going to CHARGE for data that is Valve's. That's nuts.
Those win/loss values and MMR ratings in a game are really important data. If Valve let them fall into the wrong hands...

I m pretty sure that out of 5 games with venomancer i only have looses.... ( let's check that... Oh wait now i can't from my phone... ) I really dont know how to play that guy. Dotabuff also made me know its the hero i had the most death with ( 15 i think ).oh no someone saw you just lost as venomancer. your privacies! call the fbi!
?all zombie osama bin laden needs to accomplish his evil plan to overthrow modern society is the dota 2 mm data valve is keeping locked in their vault. we can't let the terrorists win
are you a terrorist? i sure hope not
don't let the terrorists violate our privacies. pls report them

We already have two new additions to the Dota 2 WebAPI: IDOTA2Match_570/GetLeagueListing & IDOTA2Match_570/GetLiveLeagueGames
Your meltdown in this thread is embarrassing.
Oh no Valve is bad
Valve getting too big for their britches? They have never been a company that squashes community-made projects. This is highly unusual of them. Yes, the MMR thing might not fit into their vision of the Dota 2 community, but Dotabuff offers player information in an easy to use form that shits all over the in-game profile. As others have said, hopefully they can all come to a compromise because the in-game information UI is truly atrocious.
Valve didn't shut them down, they gave up them selfs, I'm disappointed too but the wording from DB seems very dodgy. They talked to Valve about everything, why is this suddenly a surprise to them. The Web API is back up and should still give them enough, but they would have to work on something new first.
We'll see how it goes, I hope Valve will release their own version at least. Checking all that shit offline was the best part.
Oh no Valve is bad
I'm glad they're finally making WebAPI (that was broken for months) work, after gimping the only form of stat tracking we had for months.
What? You can't actually think this right?
Me too.I was under the impression he's being sarcastic?
I know it's almost as if the game was still being actively worked on or something. Shoddy work I must say.
Yeah, it's like dotabuff are wizards because they've had stat tracking working for months while Valve is too busy not adding swap to single draft or too busy charging money for hats.
I just tested out the web API for DotA 2 and it's fucking amazing
IT EVEN TRACKS THE EXACT TIME FIRST BLOOD HAPPENED.

Literally the exact output, straight from the WebAPI, of my latest match.
It looks to be a tad glitchy, or maybe I'm just doing it wrong. But once these gltitches are fixed (or i l2api), it looks perfect.
