Dota 2 Beta Thread 3: Gunnar Optiks Required [Faster Loading]

I'm only getting my hopes up for one new hero.

And a slew of bot fixes. They're already more competitive than the majority of the pub games I find myself in, sadly enough.

I think most of it comes down to education and experience. If you educate the average player to where even in low tier games you get stomped because your opponents recognize the benefits of wards, support items, and synergistic hero picks where you're stuck with a couple Brazilians who demand bot lane solo as SA or BH, you'll have no choice but to improve your game if you ever want to win with consistency.
That's certainly how I feel as well, Valve needs to bring the bottom up as opposed to bringing the top down. The game is already quite a bit more informative than the wc3 incarnation, I can only imagine what a tutorial suite for every hero and item could do in this regard, as well as the coaching features. Once they establish a baseline ingame tutorial framework, they could potentially churn out numerous tutorials in a very brief span of time, and then iterate into more advanced hero actions and the like from there.

I love this game some time. SD mode starts up, SA and AM insta-picked! Next person grabs PL. My 3 choices are all carries. Needless to say, we lost.

I want to see some new features, without features being added this game is just staying in the same spot in terms of progress toward launch and expanding the player pool to newcomers. These are just some of the features I'd like to see before they launch the game

Training systems implemented. The last hit tutorials that already have their strings in the files, restricted pools, a no stats matchmaking pool that lasts for ~40 games or until the player opts out/shows consistently high results (filter out the smurf accounts). A voice narrated guide that shows how to play four different roles (support/carry/ganker/pusher) demonstrated by lich, sven, nightstalker and venomancer.

Coaching. Have another player with microphone who can talk to you, the person playing can type to the coach or use microphone also. Can draw on your map like an announcer can.

Community made guides with a voting system. Similar to hon, this would show up in the beginning of the game, giving 5-6 paragraphs or less about how to play the hero, the skill build and some recommended items. The guide with the top rating would be showed as default, with the user being able to switch between all of them. This helped me a ton when I started playing hon and I would be even worst at dota if I did not read guides.

Tooltip text system, whenever someone says push, furion, rhasta or some other dota jargon, the word becomes clickable and a tooltip shows up explaining what that person means, with a check box that says disable help within the tooltip so experienced players don't have to deal with it.

A revamped UI for practice games. Right now it's god awful. It should layout all the games available, their names, and their rule sets. When I first played hon, the no stats custom games helped me learn the game without worrying about stats.

Finally I think milestones/achievements should be put in for players who just love being rewarded. A weekly reward system that gives you a bag with 2-3 random items in it would be great for hooking players in.

At the very least, the practice game ui/tooltips/training system/guides needs to be put in before the game launches and starts getting new players into the dota genre. The other features are just icing on the cake but I still would like to see them put in.

edit: As far as heroes go I'm hoping for at least war chief, surprise troll warlord would be greatly appreciated. Medusa can sit on the backburner for all I care, spectre 2.0.

Adding to the suggestions - an option to toggle on automatic translations so when someone types something in chat in a language other than your default one the game automatically translates it using an in-game dictionary for popular terms and google translate for longer more complex sentences.

That's some advanced shit that would bring us closer to that universal translator.

I learned to love undying last night after pub stomping some people and forcing them to rage quit.

Is there any way to build him so he is effective late game and not just early and mid game ?

His zombies seem daam near useless late game.

Бочка, басс, колбасер - all the Russian I need to know

Binding keys to say specific things so it will look something like this in your autoexec.cfg
bind "g" "say_team missing bottom or whatever you want"

I was playing yesterday and Kunkka kept saying "missing bottom". He wasn't being played by a bot. How was he doing that?

Maybe its connected to what you type.
I know if you type 'lol' your characters laughs. I think your character says thanks too if you type 'thanks'.

So maybe its if you type ssbot or ss?

I'm so dumb, didn't realise he meant actually saying it out loud. I don't think I've encountered that in matchmade games. It probably isn't just ss but something more specific like you said ssbot.

That used to be a feature in final fantasy 11. I remember thinking at the time that every game should have it. It was basic but it was all you really needed.

Yeah I need translations to russian for words like 'noobs' 'uninstall' 'feeder' 'dumpster' 'getgood'. If they won't speak english I'm gonna take the fight to them.

Clock drafted.

Feel free to call me a fanboy, but I just find Dendi's Pudge damn fun to watch.

Бочка = barrel (From: Russian - detected)

колб асер = Acer flasks (From: Russian - detected)

...?

Only Russian I think I understand in-game is "cc", which I believe stands for "ss".

Clock is much more uncommon than Pudge, which is why I pointed out that Clock was picked up instead.

Purge on killing Swift: "Failed, but I got him."

#sunnyside

... and beginning to concede the loss, which I suppose is fair. Fourth (or fifth) fight lost with no clear gain at all.

Yeah, didn't even have to build attack speed after the BKB with that Wisp behind him. Hurt city, the Daedalus and Desolator enabling him to one-shot everyone on Purge's team was rather amusing.

Gonna try some Dragon Knight tonight. Any tips for a newb DK player? Do you guys usually jungle with him early game and do you generally avoid suicide lane?

DK jungle? wat..

He's a carry, he goes safe lane and can go mid because he's tanky and has a good stun, all carries should avoid the suicide lane.. but in pub games you sometimes don't have a choice.

Yeah I saw some DKs attempting to jungle before, not sure if they were dumb or if that was legit.

Go easy lane and pinoy it
Get shadow blade/bkb/dominator
Pop-ulti, initiate with shadow blade and right click for backstab damage and then pop bkb then kill their whole team.

Oh yeah, and early soul ring.

They were probably dumb or just not very good at the game.

edit: Fucking empire again... rofl...
