Dota 2 Beta Thread 3: Gunnar Optiks Required [Faster Loading]

Can never remember the proper name of the mode, so I'll just refer it to by the Diretide map name. It's really enjoyable (like multi-flag CTF on steroids), though there's definitely a fair number of heroes that break it wide open. Will look forward to seeing what they do for winter and the like.
 
Hmm, couldn't each player buy a courier and have it follow them around to carry candies? Of course there'd be some microing and a little danger...

Not surprised that some heroes are much better at this than others, it's pretty clear that this mode is super unbalanced, a lot of int heroes are useless in it.
 
Watched the replay. They let each other hit the pumpkin and then use a courier to put the candy back in. This gives lots of gold and xp. They also had people walking around farming. From the text chat it seems they were all on voice chat with each other.

Then when rosh starts to move around they got him on tinker. Tinker goes to a fountain (for mana regen) and uses ethereal blade on rosh, which does some damage + means he cant damage tinker. Rearm and repeat until the 20 minutes are up then take him to the graveyard. Rosh only had 4k hp left, which they killed in 17 seconds.

Jesus. The whole mode is going to be removed before I even get to play with all these bugs and exploits
This is exactly why we can't have nice things. Because instead of just getting a holiday update for fun we cause more work for the devs who now have to patch all this crap instead of working on newer stuff

All they need to do is fix the Meepo bug, make it so illusions don't cause candy to drop, and then make it so people can't put candy inside the couriers.
 
It is also was supposed to come with an Item, but I don't think it is out yet. Most likely going to be like TF2, where you get a box until they actually release the thing..

Also would be nice if you couldn't Deny the candy.
 
Lol 4 seconds.

They kept rosh at the fountain, and as soon as the final phase started, he'd get nuked down by dagon and the fountain. Lame.

Yea my thoughts from reading around. Also fix roshan's mana being removed by diffusal, I thought this wasn't possible anymore in normal games, but now it suddenly is again, must be a bug then right?

Nah, just some number tweaking and bug fixes would fix most of it. id expect a patch today or tomorrow.

wtf I may have missed something, but suddenly Meepo just dropped huge amount of candy on death, we won. Meepo bugged the rest of the game, and we didn't receive items.

Trying to check inventory on steam gives an error, pretty sure it's just down atm. Probably get those items once it's up.

Feel like I need to grind this mode out in case they patch the drop-rate soon. 2 items for a 20 minute game is pretty great on it's own, but then when you add regular drops that are still active, and BP: daaamn!

This is my biggest complaint about Diretide. Just had an Anti-mage and Queen of Pain that blinked in, hit the bucket and denied everything that fell out. Even if you manage to kill them before they blink back out, you've still lost a part of your candy.
 
Yay if they fix, Roshan abuse in fountain, candy being deny-able, Illus being able to hit the candybox, then all will be well :)
 
Well reading this thread has explained why there are some pissy people in the matchmaking. Played a match against Meepo which my team won. I've just started getting in the habit of camping our bucket and hoping my team can get candy on their own. Was Jakiro with a veil.

Anyway, Meepo made a run for our bucket near the end of the game. Was surprised when he waltzed out at max level with hearts and tons of health but with the veil, dual breath, macropyre and ice path I was able to rip off a lot of his hp and he just melted when help finally arrived.

I hadn't realized how broken Meepo was though, so was really confused when the enemy team basically fell apart after that with half of them refusing to come out of their fountain to help with Rosh and generally just trying to troll afterwards. Ended up in a game again with the Meepo player (he played something else) and he just spent most of the game hunting flaming me.

Don't know how effective this would be against actually skilled players though.
 
Do you have a certain amount of time to kill rosh? Why would you sit in fountain and refuse when you get item?

Also. Why bother attacking each others buckets whe you get candy from the little zombies?
 
Bug fixes should help, but it's far from balanced even then.

I don't really give a fuck though, as it's entertaining as hell and makes a great slot machine. 2 Wex essences so far, though I probably don't want them.
 
What I love about this mode is how it's almost exactly 30 minutes every time. So it's much easier to plan around a few games whereas you really have no idea how long a real dota 2 match will last.

I would not be opposed to Valve experimenting with some more serious timed modes. The core game mode of Dota needs to be the main draw, but when you're on a tight schedule and want to get some solid playtime in, a deathmatch-only mode or CTF or something more like this could be a lot of fun.

Agreed. As it stands right now sometimes the "just one more game" really isn't a viable option because it could go on for 60+ minutes if you aren't careful.
