How the heck are you all getting essences. All I got were items. How many games per essences on average?

I played a BUNCH of games today and ended up with 4 total, two of which I traded. I'd say it's maybe 1/3 or 1/4 at best, on average. You really have to play quite a lot to get them. And in my personal sample, I ended up with 3 yellows and 1 red - no mysterious/strange or other colors - so you'll probably have to trade to get what you want (which shouldn't be a problem with the rate at which you acquire items in Diretide.)

i never said don't have fun. i never fault anyone for trying or having fun. but if your just gonna start pushing top or something or don't know how to play, all i am saying is ask. i am not saying you need to have a team meeting just realize whats going on.

Ah, didn't mean to call you out or anything. Was just detailing my bad experience with people who didn't seem to have any patience for beginners even if they were upfront with not knowing what they were doing.

Played some more and beyond that really terrible match, most groups have been thankfully far more pleasant.

Man, my friends and I are really enjoying Diretide. The Roshan fight almost reminded us of a mini-raid fight that you might find in WoW or Diablo. I wonder if that's something Valve would ever explore? Either Dota co-op scenarios/raids or campaign-esque missions that leverage a single player's knowledge of a hero and their abilities (and thereby serving as a good teaching tool to educate new players on the intricacies of the game...).

One thing I'm shocked at is the item drop rate. Normally it wouldn't matter in any other game, but with the way Steam and trading works, it seems a little weird to me since there's an actual economy going on here. I almost feel obligated to play Diretide over normal matches, and I probably won't be able to get my friends to do a "real" match until the event is over...

I've barely played dota 2(like 12 games or so) but today my brother and I tried out the new map. So much fun. Managed to "win"(get the most candy) all 4 of our games. Got bunch of items and 1 essence for my egg. Really enjoying it.

The first time I played this mode yesterday it went really terribly, and I wasn't quite sure what I should have been doing differently. They had PL and Meepo and were just stomping us and taking all our candy. I kept getting popped as Drow really fast.

I'm not that good a player, so without knowing basic strategy I tend to be a deadweight. It just seemed like everywhere I'd go I'd die fast and sit in spawn.

What should I be keeping in mind to maintain map awareness and do right by my team?

best strategy I've seen so far is have a Furion & Tinker. Tinker can farm lanes and hide the candy in a blind spot, while Furion ports in to pick it up then ports back to drop it off.

In my second or third game I was chasing someone who was at low life while I had 1 hp from the candy. He actually didn't turn around and kill me hahaha.

I think I've played about 30 games of this and got nothing but common and uncommon items. My friend played TWO games and got a mythical courier and a mythical off-hand for someone.

You can fill as many eggs as you like but if you've got a full white egg you're probably better off trading the essences for keys then buying strange essences to apply to that egg.

I got the cool Ringblade sword for Sven today as a drop in the first round. Ironically in the second round, a rare item (NP flower necklace) was guaranteed.

It was a tense walk back. Any little minor scratch from a creep and I was done.

I don't mind candy being deniable. I'm getting annoyed by pubs who can't coordinate the early game very well though. I had multiple games yesterday where people would still go out and do their own thing, leaving only 2 heroes at mid/basket to defend when the entire opposing team would go straight for our candy.

I had a pretty crazy game last night where basically the first 10 minutes was just nonstop teamfighting. So much fun.

I think my favorite hero in this mode now is Undying. That he's so hard to kill means you can lay a tombstone by the enemy basket and just let your team wreak havoc while 2-3 of the enemies try to kill you.

I played one game of the new mode. Had a PL who still couldn't figure out how to deposit candy 20+ minutes into the game, even after being told several times. He just kept writing 'how i put candy in box?' the very last thing I saw after the game ended was him typing 'how u teleport to boss?'
