I really can't stand the whole exploiting to get the best time stuff, but I thought this was pretty clever.

Pretty much. I don't think anyone actually thinks Diretide is more fun than regular Dota. It's just that it's limited time only and gives you guaranteed loot. If regular Dota gave me a guaranteed item during this event I'd never touch Diretide.
Valve's heart was in the right place but I think it's been a pretty flawed event, especially with the stupid hall of fame garbage, and the boring second act with roshan. But I'm still glad we got something.

I like diretide more than normal dota. Not the actual game, but the fact that people don't give a fuck. I can have fun and not get flamed. Mostly why I'm excited about an all random mode. I just want to have a good time and not care about leet strats and gpm.
 
So when both teams have the same amount at the end of diretide it just randomly picks a winner? Had two games that ended as a draw and it just picked a random team which is incredibly fucking stupid.

Are they releasing an all random mode? That would be awesome!

I also heard about a deathmatch mode from WC3 Dota where you spawn as a new hero every time you die. Would be awesome if they brought that over.

I completely agree with Steve. Sometimes I want my typical Dota experience, sometimes I like to just have fun and play less seriously. Diretide is a fun change and I hope they add more stuff like that to the mix.

Edit: White egg now has three unusual essences on it too now. Curious to know what will pop out now.
 
After playing TF2 for a long time, I'm having a hard time understanding the cosmetics in Dota 2. I know mythical and unusual shit is the rare sought after stuff, but after being exposed to the game I don't see myself wanting them. I'm a pretty terrible player but I don't see why couriers are sought after.

Also, strange Armor? How does that even work? It's not like tf2 where there stranges count your kills.

Item rarity goes common<uncommon<rare<mythical<legendary<immortal. Unusuals are like tf2 but are only for couriers.

Strange items can in fact count your kills, along with other stat trackers like killing/healing with a specific spell or whatnot. There are also strange modifiers which add a specific strange effect to an already strange item, so your strange items can have more than one stat track.

One thing it does worst than tf2 is that it doesn't show you the weapon people killed you with. Makes description tags and name tags pretty useless, as the only time people will see the custom item is when you level it up or they inspect you.
 
anyone have a blue essence they want to trade for my yellow? Trying to get at least lvl 1 green egg before it ends and I'd rather play normal over ditretide

It doesn't? I could swear the weapon is displayed under the portrait of the player who killed you.
 
Opened two more chests. Got mediocre items (Soul Reaper, Warlock Lantern), but did get an extra egg, so that's pretty good. Getting enough essences for one egg is hard enough though, let alone two. I only have 6 on me at the moment.

If this change got patched in, it's to end the flesh heap killing roshan strat, which is a good thing.
 
spookie gave me 2 chests, and i got a baby roshan out of one :)

trying to trade my mythical badger for an unusual essence now
 
All these good unlocks and making me want to open my chest, probably get a Warlock item though.

unusual essences really that valuable?

I got one and used it on my egg. If all it does is increase the rarity level of the greevil I would have traded mine for another courier already. If it gives it like extra features I'm going to be pissed I didn't get more esssences :(.

They're pretty rare. The ones that "corrupt" your egg seem to be decently rare too. But look at me, I haven't gotten any blue ones at all, so who the fuck knows.

I think I heard something about the unusual essences changing the animations of the greevil.

i'm rolling in blues and reds. can't seem to find any yellows through all of it though. grinding through diretide to find my last unusual essence sucks.
 
6 blue, 6 yellow, 9 reds.

Too much essentz.

Some guy on reddit was offering 4 greevil eggs (empty ones) for 1 unusual essence.
 
Decided to open my chest. Got an unusual Baby Roshan out of it. Yay, I guess.

Sounds like I need to get rid of my unusual essence too. Not liking Diretide enough to get more of that stuff.
