What's up with all the disconnects in low-tier DOTA?

I mean, yeah it's low tier, but holy shit people leave so often and so early.

Slark is apparently really hard because he deals no fucking damage and his agi growth is so low that his essence shift barely seems to matter, because I can only land one or two hits in teamfights

Thanks. I have a quick question as well.

Was playing yesterday and had farmed up an Eaglesong. Then I bought a Quarterstaff and Talisman from the Shop button at the bottom right which presumably sends the items to my stash in base. This means I need to head back to the fountainto pick up those items to make Butterfly. So I was just going about my business and out of nowhere, I noticed that the BF was in my inventory and my stash was empty without me ever going back to base to pick up the other components. What could have happened here? I think I wandered quite close to the enemies' fountain at one point. Could that have triggered this?

Yes you can buy and pick things up at the enemy fountain.

Interesting thought experiment, if it was both team's objective to ensure their own Ancient would be destroyed, what would be the best way to do so.

Lich, Enigma to deny your own creeps.
ES to block your creeps and make them detour so the tower takes more damage.
Chen can send back creeps.
Naix can infest one of your creeps and kill it.

That'd be my team. Be on dire side. Have Lich pull the medium and hard camps top to both get levels from the jungle and to kill your own creep waves. Eidolon cooldown doesn't change with level so there's no need to level him up; he can just stay at the beginning of top lane with clarities and deny a creep every 35 seconds. Same thing with test of faith; cooldown is always 24 seconds so just leave him at base.

Have Naix solo mid so he can get a fast level 6 and then assist in denying creeps. The cooldown is really bad buuut every bit helps. You just have to be careful not to blow up the enemy creepwave when they're pushing into the T3 tower.

ES can block bottom lane or something in the meantime. Either that or you can pick Dark Seer and surge one of your creeps repeatedly so it gets killed off. That's pretty much like a Lich or Enigma.

It also might be better to replace ES with a KOTL so he can fill Enigma and Chen with mana.

You're right, Clinkz IS better than Naix.

Either replace ES/DS/KOTL or Naix with Clinkz. I think the mana battery is more useful though, so I'd replace Naix.

I'm slowly getting better. Slowly. I played Lich tonight, and I really like him. I built him full support, with a Mekansm, Arcane Boots, and Drum of Endurance. Unfortunately my team was horrible (not that I expect anything from low-level players like me) and we lost in 31 mins. For some reason my lanemate left me alone and so it was 3 top, 1 mid, and me bot for the majority of the game. So much for using my support items. :[

Wow that alt-tab guide from the reddit link is awesome! Exactly what I needed.

Watching competitive games after not having seen any in awhile is so weird. "Those are first picks/bans?!"

Watching this NTH vs. AL game now (was recommended as good on reddit) and Sven was the first pickup. But I guess if the meta shifted more towards ganking than pushing, it sorta makes sense.

It's shifted more towards his Cleave being ridiculously good than anything.

Just had one of the worst experiences with a random in quite a long time. At the beginning of the game Mirana wants to trilane bot, with Death Prophet Soloing the long lane. Shadow Demon and Leshrac wreck her shit, so Mirana is now yelling at Death Prophet when DP was asking for help in her lane. Then a little ways into the game, I miss a couple of hooks in front of Mirana, and suddenly I am the worst Pudge ever. Long story short, Mirana was finding anything and everything to complain about. The whole game she keeps going off by herself, getting ganked by three of them and dying. Toward the end of the game she's mostly straight up feeding, as in being at Dire's outer wall when we're fending off creeps in base.

Then things got weird. I had a chance to send the courier to secret shop to buy my Point Booster and finish my Scepter, and then I had the courier take it back to base. Well when I go back to base, I notice my Point Booster is not there. It's not on the courier, it's not on the ground, it's not in my stash, and the Scepter didn't build, so where is it? Well I have a sneaking suspicion that Mirana may have destroyed it (I muted her shortly after she started yelling at me). Near the end of the game, Shadow Demon says in all chat "...why do I have Pudge's Point Booster?"

Turns out I was sort of right, Mirana took it to top lane between where Dire's T1 and T2 were and left it there. I had bought another one by that time, but that was pretty much the nail in the coffin. Dire was definitely in agreement to report Mirana for griefing, as well as Text Abuse (she complained in all chat, writing essays about how each time I missed a hook, it was the worst hook ever).

Also, I think Mirana needed to look at the scoreboard again.

You could also use Pugna/Blood Seeker to buff the enemy creeps. Pugna making them unable to be physically damaged, Blood Seeker to give them double damage.

Played some crystal maiden games today to get a better feel of the character I was making items for. Man her ult is pretty dope. I was level 11-13 doing very good damage against opposition players. Epic match, Mirana abandoned early, laving sven, myself, chaos knight and sniper to crawl our way back from the brink of disaster; and the opp had at least 7 levels on us. Sniper totally carried us to victory :D

Such a good game!

Annddd fuck Own3dTV. You can't adjust the time for shit with their VODs. Accidentally clicked on something and got an echo about 36 minutes into that game I was watching, refresh the page to stop it, but you can't skip back to the part where you were watching. It just loads the start. Not gonna watch that much again just to see the end.

Ughhhhh.

Never have this issue with Twitch VODs.

That was an awesome game to watch, ending was amazing. Can't help but feel let down by the wisp "bug". People say it's not a bug because it worked that way in Dota 1 but it certainly feels like a bug, perhaps an engine limitation? I dunno but it was shit to watch and I can't imagine it adding anything to the game except frustrating people in those kind of one off situations. I hope they fix it

Well that was quick (This was the only player I reported since the last time I got this message):

Ugh, only had 1 similar situation where someone was blatantly griefing even fucking around with the courier and throwing away my gear. It sucks because I remember as juggernaut I had an awesome start and we were all over them and just because they died a few times throw a tantrum, hell I don't even think anyone said anything bad to them they just went batshit crazy not unlike your original post.

Seeing that message a few hours later made me feel so much better, hope it did for you too.

I wonder how Valve handles reports, and how big their staff is for this stuff. Judging by the volume of reports I'd guess you'd have to filter them out somehow (maybe if only 1 person reports they skip it?)

I'm pretty sure it's almost entirely automated where if you get enough reports by unique senders in a short amount of time it boots you to the LPQ.

They need to add some kind of courier use history.

That way you can see which person on your team is trying to feed the courier to the enemy team or if they have dropped other people's items.

They do, it's called replays. You can still report them after the game is over, just watch the replay if you aren't sure what happened to your items. Lucky for me, Nix noticed my Point Booster at the top of the map, then Shadow Demon picked it up and said "...why do I have Pudge's Point Booster?"

Is there any good guide looking at the cost efficiency of the items?
No, mostly cause it doesn't make sense. Items in DOTA are typically defined by the active they bring to the party and it's just a crap shoot.

LET YOUR INSTINCT* GUIDE YOU.

If you do not have an instinct, develop one by playing a lot.

Hmm, you can still look at efficiency by categories. For example, in terms of dps per gold, MKB was really efficient in the past. But seeing how much it costs now, I'm not so sure anymore. It's been too long since I played this.

You buy MKB IF"

1) Their PA is mega farmed
2) Their AGI carry is building Butterfly
3) You're Sniper and you like to troll

Cost really doesn't come into it!

nonono. however much dmg kunkka does to the main target is then splashed as pure dmg. So if kunkka has 500 dmg, and the primary target has enough -armor to take 50% extra dmg, the entire cleave is going to do 750 pure dmg to everything but the original target.

The creep's armor reduces the damage of the splash. Negative armor will increase that damage greatly, so the less armor they have to start with the bigger the negative armor value and the bigger the hit.
You made me doubt again, so I did a quick test ingame.

First a normal hit on the Dark Troll, tidebringer does 211 damage to the Warlord creep.

Same thing but with Medallion of Courage and Slardar's Amplify Damage on the Dark Troll. The melee hit on the Dark Troll now does 339 damage, but Tidebringer still deals the same 211 splash damage to the Warlord creep.

Unless I did something wrong, armor has no effect on Tidebringer's damage.

Oh, that's disappointing I was hoping for a ban.

Meh it depends sometimes (as in often) that's a bad idea especially in a game like Dota where there's an awful lot of trigger happy reporters (even by players who should really be getting reported) and against players who are just plain new at the game. Unless they recieve a ridiculous amount of reports for good reason, a ban seems uneccessary and would probably be more harm than good.

Well I'm sure that the reports are moderated. Of course it would be for the detriment of the community if any poor sod who got 5 unjust reports got his account banned. I'm talking about the bad-mannered, loudmouth, racist, bigoted, immature few that consistently poison the community.

Those kind of people I wouldn't lose sleep over if they had their dota privileges revoked.

Ok, I think I finally understand how to play Blood Seeker. You Rupture a dood, silence your self, and go to town on him. Still not sure on just what is best on him though, he seems to have survivability issues without any built in damage mitigation. In the end, I just went Yasha into S&Y, a push stick, and picked up a late Skaddi.

It depends... If they're a caster type, silence them, not yourself. It can be fun in pubs to buy Shadow Blade on him. Rupture, then silence yourself and shadow blade, and go to town.

Also Blademail seems to be a popular item. I haven't tried it as I haven't played a single game as BS in Dota 2 yet.
