Kotl is extremely fragile and slow and weak, the best way to tackle him is to get tanky heroes that can bully him out of lane or outright kill him like Nightstalker, Sven, Centaur etc. supported with Jakiro, Veno, Shadow Demon, the likes. If you let him just pummel you and your creep wave from afar, you'll have a lot of issues. Kill him early, kill him often, and he'll leave you alone. You figure it's OK to tank an illuminate while walking up to him if it means you'll murder his bony ass.

And if he's just casting the nuke in fog/forest, keep some wards up too, sometimes the audio cues just aren't enough.

Yeah, there are legitimately good places to put wards in the sidelanes that will help you see KOTL and help you see if any enemies are TPing or coming in to gank you. Mostly though, just get up there and beat on him.

Unless it has a percentage attached to it, it just adds to it

For instance, hyperstone is 50 AS. Two hyperstones are 100 AS. It takes your BAT (which for most heroes is 1.7 I believe) and does a calculation with a simple formula (its on the playdota website).

Trolls gives 180 as. The only spell I can think of off the top of my head that multiplies your AS is Lone Druid's rabid.

edit: More info is that the cap is 500 AS. Ursa's active use to just give him 500 AS for 6 attacks but I think its works differently now.

Pulled from playdota;

To determine how fast a unit attacks, the formula below is used:

Attacks per second = (1 + IAS)/BAT

Note: IAS in this formula is a percentage, so you must divide your actual IAS by 100 before using it in this formula.

Example of formula:
Vengeful Spirit has a BAT of 1.7
If Vengeful Spirit has a total of 160 IAS, the formula will be as follows:
Attacks per second = (1 + 1.60)/1.7 = 1.53 times per second.

See I want more of this. I want to know how all this stuff factors in and the percents and how the numbers are calculated and whatnot. I looked around the playdota site and couldn't really find a lot of that...

wonderful advice

I need to work on harassing the enemy jungle hero. There are games where I just don't do it, or enough (aside from warding the obvious pull camp).

Come to think of it, I don't see it happen much in the games I've been in.

People are mostly content to farm in a 2v1 lane

We reached a point where Silencer had so much int stolen, that he was hitting really really hard with pure damage. We could have won at the 50min mark easy, but we fucked up and everything got delayed

Well he counters AM, so that's your problem there.

Edit: That feel when your laptop dies and you want to play Dota 2. Sucks so much ;_;

Just bought a $500 PC on impulse, I'm so bad. Gets here on Dec 6, so leaves time to read I guess :(

I'm playing with some bots to learn along with a friend but even on medium we get our asses kicked

How the hell is the enemy champ already level 10+ while we are only 4 and level 16 by the the time I get to 6? I tried killing neutrals but that doesn't do much either

Get 2-3 heroes and gank him.

Sorry, it just felt like guy had a problem and responders solution was kill him.

The dude is made of paper. It doesn't take much to get him away. The best way to handle him, is to avoid his blasts and kill him

Last hits, jungleing, they cheat.

You should make a Clockwerk skin that looks like the robot from Under Siege :p and log back onto psn!

Hehehehe. Long story short, I have been playing backlog games for some time now. The PS3 was moved to a place without internet cable.
And your Steam ID is wrong? BHK3 doesn't work.

He was having problems specifically with KOTL. There's a reason KOTL dual lanes significantly dropped in popularity in the competitive scene and it's because people quickly learned that you pick burly heroes like the ones I listed and walk up and kill Keeper. It's ridiculously simple in this case and if he had asked for a different matchup advice then he'd get something appropriate for that, i.e., if he's up against Undying/Veno, he doesn't get to set up a kill lane, he sets up a lane that can forfeit all semblance of experience or farm. Or if he's struggling against a Dark Seer solo lane, there'd be a different set of heroes that included skill sets with roots instead of generically naming "kill lane with Venomancer".

Best way to beat kotl is to prepare yourself for the likelihood you'll be in a lane against him.

What this means:

Buy two sets of tangos instead of one (and a salve), and a ring of protection at start.

Rush tranquil boots. If your partner is getting hit as well let him cs for his own pair of tranquil boots. Its worth it in the long run.

If you're say, shadow demon + centaur or some other ridic combo, just run up and kill him. Get a ward and place it in his favorite hiding spot (usually the fog of the jungle). Catch him out of position trying to land one of his waves and kill him.

Worst comes to worst, ask for help or switch lanes. This is important if you're a hard carry trying to farm. If the other lane is succeeding or is doing well then just tough it out.

Nice strat but, why the ring of protection?

Okay, we're warming up now.....

I usually play support, but I'm starting to love that feeling when you afk farm for 30 minutes and then win the game. Specially when I play with friends and they support me nicely in lane.

Also I'm a nice guy and try to end games faster when I'm the carry and have the advantage, and don't try to make it longer to get awesome scores.

Some nights I'm utterly disgusted with the mm system.

The amount of trolls in this game is sickening, its near hon level. I also don't understand the whole 3-5 man vs pubs scenario. I understand their elo is lower but most of the time they come in with some preset strat while my team couldn't give a shit and does all random. Thats ok every once in a while but then you get troll game -> troll game -> stack -> troll ->stack next thing you know you're in a 7 game losing streak all for completely dumb reasons.

What demoralizes me is that while valve has made a solid product here I doubt they'll have the same policing activity that league or even s2 had.

Well, not all 5 man teams know what they are doing. The Day Z Gaf group has moved on to Dota and we probably have worse communication than a team full of randoms.

I know this feel, It feels like hell, and it will never end.

So we played a little 3v3 Reverse CM in-house earlier, and I ended up playing Chen. Everyone had a solo lane, and I was against Disruptor (couldn't jungle because 3v3). I was in the safe lane, and had a great strategy. Disruptor would harass me, and I would grab one of these guys:

Foresttrollhighpriest.jpg

Every time Disruptor harassed me, even after getting through my regen, I could just have this little guy heal me, as well as my other creeps. On top of that, I had another creep I would send to pull into the lane when the farm got too far from my tower. Once I maxed Holy Persuasion, we could start pushing towers, and the other team couldn't stop it.

The moral of this story: The small camp can actually be pretty good for Chen or Enchantress, and I think people frequently overlook it.

Yeah you do run into some casual players, but that feel when the other team sits with no picks until 0:00 and then does wisp-sven or whatever was hot for the day, ugh.

I know this feel, It feels like hell, and it will never end.

Until you hit that sweet sweet batrider game where the opposing sniper mid didn't stand a chance :P.

Trying to metagame All Pick is the root of suffering. Embrace the madness and tap random.

I know logically I shouldn't care because the game doesn't revolve around pubbing and AP but its what I do most of the time. You're right, most tactical picks won't make a difference in the end (unless you're like 4th-5th pick) and sometimes random can give you the right choice.
