Dota 2 Beta Thread 3: Gunnar Optiks Required [Faster Loading]

So to summarize.

Dotabuff was using an exploit to gather match data. Anyone could use this exploit for less honourable things than Dotabuff.
VALVe closed the exploit because the WebAPI is the method they are making available for 3rd parties to get Dota 2 stats. This method is still perfectly available right now for Dotabuff to use. They are 'butthurt' as you idiots would say because the exploit got closed not because there's no way at all for them to get stats.
Dotabuff post some bullshit about how VALVe are shutting them down because of previously noted 'butthurt'edness.
Dota 2 players read half of what Dotabuff post & go "OMG VALVE Y U HEFFF 2 SHUT DOWN DOTABUFF"

^ pretty good summary on dota2 dev

Eh sad DB isn't around now but a little part of me feels liberated from the shackles of statistics.

Also quietly hoping Valve will at some point implement some stats similar to original DB or another site will.

I'm actually really sad about Dotabuff because their statistics were awesome and the DBR was pretty great as long as it was kept private. This really sucks.

In a few months when the API is up and running well you'll forget what a Dotabuff was.

Trust me, lots of cool stuff has been done with the TF2 API. This will work out.

I am not happy with Valve over the Dota Buff destruction.

So not Valve like.

Did you not read any of this thread?

All valve did was close an exploit and provided dota buff and anyone else with a means of getting data. If dota buff doesn't wanna use the web API provided then its on them.

Finally caught up on all the drama over Dotabuff. What a load of horseshit. So they were relying on reverse-engineered data scraping technique, Valve closed the loop at last and they throw their toys out of the pram declaring Valve are the bad guys.

"Valve shuts down Dotabuff" - Jesus what a incredibly juvenile and misleading title to run with.

Edit: Just read that thread over on dev.dota2 stay classy Dota 2 community. Putrid as ever.

Dotabuff shut down Dotabuff. They could have kept the site up, and worked out the issues.

A bit scummy that they are making people request a refund for plus instead of just auto issuing it.

I know, what a bunch of damn babies. Most of the shit they had was viewable in game wasn't it?

I fucking love stats, butu I don't agree with the dotabuff at all, but one thing I don't really like is the whole stats hidden on default.

Actually took me a while to even find the setting in the options. D:

the way dotabuff handled the situation is disgusting, really disgusting.
babies.

edit: I wonder if dotabuff used SteamRE.

I'm going to miss analyzing and discussing useless win rate % for heroes :(. I hope they get a good webAPI going and another stat site takes up dotabuff's mantle.

The last few days seem so crazy.

That's the worst part. They're aren't "being shut down" they just decided to close it down because they're apparently not going to develop for the web API that Valve made available. They went as far as to post the images of their privacy settings as if that should have appeased Valve or something.

Holy shit, I just heard the Dotabuff news.

If I understand this correctly, it seems like all that really needs to happen is Dotabuff has to just change the way they gathered data to what Valve has changed to for it to work, right? It will be able to read public profiles, those that want to be on Dotabuff can be. Boom. Done. Everyone's happy? So why is Dotabuff throwing a fit and not just getting to work on that?

I am understanding this correctly, right?

Edit: CyborgMatt made some interesting posts about the subject.

It's important for people to realise that stat gathering is still possible (with the added option of player privacy). http://t.co/uFitF9yy

1SIL1

Also it's worth noting that this was put together in a pretty short amount of time and is completely powered by the Dota 2 WebAPI. #Dota2

Those public profile's can have their account id hooked up to their steam id/steam profile as well. Which isn't included in the example.

lol this just makes Dotabuff look hilariously sad.

Like seriously, a little bit of added work to make it work, but instead that just nuke it all and burn all contact with Valve...

smh
