I've lost 7/9 games and it's starting to piss me off. I'm fairly new but I seem to keep getting teamed up with people who don't even know what they're supposed to be doing and we get steamrolled every time.

I'm on a loosing streak aswell..

Every damn game has one or more of:

- A carry that doesn't carry;
- A support that doesn't support and steals LH and kills from the carry;
- No freaking wards, sometimes I have to buy wards as a carry/jungler, sometimes even the god damn courier;
- Someone that thinks that disconnecting early game is cool;

What should I do, Gaf?

why u got to say that to the SB carrying you all the time. SB is such a great ganker.

just played my second game as Slark. first game we got devastated the entire game so I didn't even feel like I had a chance to play him. Second game I just played, I kept safe during the first half, finished up 16-4, he can be a powerhouse if you keep up in levels, damn.

Play as good as you can, really. I've been there but once your MMR rises enough you will leave the zone where you have a disconnect or have someone in team who doesn't know what the hero he picked does.
Never forget: The chance that these people are on the other team is higher than that they are in yours :)

Also most losing streaks and with a nice winning streak.

Get good, find some people to play with, keep practicing and don't rage when there's no need to. You're going to meet people you're not willing to communicate with, but it's Dota, so you'd better to get used to it rather than feel bad everytime there's a douche or newbiew in your team.

Let'se see how it goes, thanks for the advice.

I'm on the 400-something games, when I play with my group, I always win, but with pubsters, nah.

As a new player, taking a tour of all the heroes to at least have a basic grasp out what you can face in a match, what characters I like as well a few different looks per role I've found a the videos that Purge puts up to be immensely helpful. Each video is one match with a character where he explains every decision, item purchase, ability choice/use and breaks down encounters and it's super helpful. It's not just the stuff about the character is match is about, it's all of the little tricks like going to Roshan to access the Dire-side secret shop or the fact that you can attack and deny runes from a Radiant side neutral creep camp near bottom lane with a ranged hero.

I've been on a similar streak of fail. The solace I take in is how well I perform relative to my teammates. Sometimes it's something as sad as "hey, I died the least amount" or "I had as many assists as deaths". As I claw my way out of being totally awful to only somewhat awful some games it's "I had as many kills as deaths" or "I had a pretty decent k/d/a with more kills and assists than deaths!".

Sometimes you encounter really cool people in matches with randoms, it's good not to just commend them, you should add them as friends. It's good to have people that are in your relative skill level to play with. The more friendly, communicative people you add to your friends list and party up with, the better your games will probably be.

Won my first ever game last night playing against REAL ACTUAL humans....but 2 dropped from their team mid-game, but what the hell...

Was playing Sven and buffed using the recommended starting and mid game items. Felt good. Still only managed 1 kill and died 8 times, but you have to start somewhere I suppose and Sven isn't what I'd call an out and out Carry like I was trying to play him. He's a decent support that's good in team fights though.

The only problem is the regret I'm feeling not getting into DOTA2 earlier. :p

So, I started playing in earnest a few hours ago after having done a few co-op games against bots to practice. I had practiced with Lich almost exclusively but decided to do random picks for actual games against humans.
  • By some miracle, I got Lich. My scoreline was something like 5/7/12 and my team won. All in all, a decent performance.
  • Luna. Who the hell is Luna? How does she play? What do I do?!? A quick alt-tab out gave me the answers and I proceeded to go 11/9/5 with a team win. Not bad!
  • Undying. Well, this can't be too bad. Oh, I'm up against Templar Assassin in my lane. 15 minutes later, I was 1/15/2 and one of my teammates had rage quit.
I'm about to play a game as Axe. This game is awesome!

Reading those new games posts never gets old.

Keeping with my always random mayches, I get treant and was doing so well healing, getting ambush kills, then get absolutely reamed by blodseeker. Lol 20!? Dafuq!?
Then I check the score board; and alch has 15 deaths :(
Next up it was a polycount artist team and I got shadow shaman. Starts off good then I start using my ultimate... trapped myself in them 3 times! Ffff!

7 win streak now a 7 loss streak.
Dota give and dota taketh away.

Okay so I have one abandon.Scum of the earth, I know. I started a match about 35 min before I had to be somewhere and well...How bad does this effect my matchmaking? I got it 1 week ago.

Worst part is it was a bot match.

I feel like I am cursed to play with all the other abandons till I have learned my lesson. I swear I'm not that type of player valve really!haha

It's been 7 months and I still get people like those :/

I have more than 6 abandons by now. Combination of rage quits, disconnects, "oh shit have to leave" moments....
Just ignore them. You will only be punished if you abandon often in quick succession.

I play since August last year, sure sometimes you will still get the occasional ragequitter, but all in all people will pause and wait for someone to reconnect. Also it's been a long time I've seen someone completely not understand what a hero does. Maybe you need to play in a team more, so you can leave your bracket :P

My Axe is currently 1/12/3 and I'm the anchor on my team. This is super not cool! AHHHHH!

Haha I know that feel. I would recommend reading at least one complete playdota guide before playing a hero. Choose your hero before the game, read up on him, then pick him first in the game.
Playdota guides often explain how to play and what strategies to use. This is by far better than just listing some items to get. Everyone can buy stuff, but playing smart requires more ;)

I did that with Lich initially and, now that I've finished this freaking Axe game, I'll do the same with Luna. I liked those two. Axe seems cool but I just played him horribly. Fed the other team like I was in the catering business.

I recommend Juggernaut, Viper, Lycan, Lina, Jakiro, Night Stalker and Earthshaker as really fun beginner heroes, some have skillshots which feel great when you land the right, others have interesting abilities and ability combos. Juggernaut can even use TP while using bladefury, so you are basically unkillable if you carry a TP. Viper is just fun and a complete pubstomper. Get shadowblade and you are probably immortal in a pubgame.

That is too hilarious. Is that because his ultimate works like sprout and double-tapping the key will surround yourself? Next time go phase boots so you can waltz out of your wards and pretend it never happened.

Why on earth would you start a match if you only had 35 minutes to play? The fuck?

You know you've been dumpster tiered when you have a lone druid in your match, who goes mid and doesn't skill bear or true form the entire game.

I had a lone druid who never went into his ult form, and kept all the items on himself and only had a headdress on his bear..

Had a similar issue, he kept wondering why everytime we would teammfight he would die and would say on mic "what just happened?". Then when I finally told him to go into bear form we finally won a fight and pushed and won, I wish we didn't win that game, pure mediocrity my team was.

Also I don't play a dota game unless I have a guaranteed hour and a half free, which makes me wonder why people get so pissed over a pause when games can 1 hour+...like 5 minutes will kill them.

This is probably one of the most annoying things in the community. Killing stealing is such a completely non-issue but some carry players will just completely freak out if you get the kill and they don't.

Really, the assist gold in the game is very good now and if you are relying on the gold from kills then you're just not farming well enough.

As a support, I do try and set up the kill for my carry but I've learned enough times it's more important to secure the kill than to putz around trying to allow my carry get the last hit and potentially losing the kill altogether.

Can't argue with the rest of that though. My losing streak has been pretty due to carry players being unable to farm properly. But I want a break from the role so whatever.

Lulz. played with a guy a while back who didn't even skill into bear. Supported him in lane and noticed he didnt have bear so I said something. Then asked again after another 5 minutes. He finally said I am going "Battle type".

they play among us.

Most of the time I don't complain, but when there's an enemy literally dying right in front of the carry and Zeus, Lina, Lion ult them for no reason but to get the kill, ... I just can't stand that.

Had an instance last week where I had a Riki dusted and shackled with a teammate carry pretty much breaking him down to almost a sliver of health. At this point I could've easily nuked him to finish the job but something told me that I should let the carry have it so I backed off and let the shackle run its duration. However, instead what happened was the riki immediately diffusal'd himself after shackle wore off and went invis before the carry could land his killing blow. His backup also arrived to clean us up. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's a fine line between kill stealing and doing the job correctly.

Just had a game where I was supporting with a Keeper of the Light and our carries were a Pudge and a Rikki. 30 min in and Pudge was wearing only phase boots, despite all the team telling him to dress up. That Pudge proceeded to buy a Divine Rapier and jump in a 5 enemies x 2 allies fight (with phase boots and a Divine Rapier), die, and lose the Divine Rapier to a Drow. We lost the game, it was amazing.

Pudge is not a carry.

Pudge should never, ever have a Divine Rapier.

I've been having some good games with Viper lately. More often than not, I have been skipping shadow blade. I'll do something along the lines of boots -> vanguard -> manta -> heart -> ult stick. I upgrade boots to travs somewhere in there.

I played Shadow Demon for the first time last night too. We lost, but it was a pretty fun game. That poor Sven.

Tbh mek is better than vanguard

That's true but the biggest problem with that is they're wasting their ultimate. On the flip side I get carries that freak out at me because I dared to kill the Nature's Prophet when I hit him with my split earth when we moved in for a gank.

Anyway, it's one of my biggest pet peeves but probably because carries in the trench have a tendency to be incredibly whiny when finding fault in others. Of all the offenses to make in Dota, kill stealing ranks probably last on my list.

Haha I thought my post might elicit such a reaction.To be honest I wasn't paying close attention to the time and only realized my time crunch once I was into the match. I do always follow the 1 hour rule and I only have 1 dropped match over 40 hours of play.

I've never really gotten the hang of Shadow Demon. Like, I always feel like the only skills that are contributing anything are Disruption and Purge

The 50% damage amplify from Soul Catcher is really strong and works well from early game to late game. Just make sure you only hit the target you want the debuff on. It also works on targets inside disruption which makes it easier to target. Disruption -> soul catcher -> purge -> dead
