:Overview taken from wikipedia:
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker is the first game in the Dragon Quest Monsters series to be in 3D, and the first game developed by TOSE in 3D. It uses the Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King game engine out of battle. It has cel-shaded animation, similar to those of Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2. The graphics in the battles are the same style as Dragon Quest VIII: issue commands in a turn based style, then watch them be executed in full 3D.
The battle system itself is very similar to previous Dragon Quest Monsters games. You have up to three monsters in your party, you can issue them direct orders or set them to one of 4 AI settings. Your main character does not directly participate in battles except for using items when told to do so.
Joker does not have random battles. The only way to encounter enemies is to run into one on the overworld. The monsters can be seen, avoided, and attacked from their back to get a free attack round.
This is the first game in the series to have online play, via Nintendo Wi-Fi.
Once again, the character and monster designs are credited to long-time Dragon Quest series artist, Akira Toriyama.

As you can see, the monsters are all kinda cell shaded and animated, ala Dragon Questo 8, with similar graphics.
I for one, having played the earlier GBC versions, am waiting Anxiously for this release, as it will be another of the "testing grounds" and the better it sells, the more of a chance we have of getting the coming remakes.
Remember that the monster age of consent is lvl 10

my review of DQM:J
GET READY TO BE GLUED TO YOUR NINTENDO DS FOR HOURS!
DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS:JOKER PROVIDES A FULL FEATURED 3D WORLD, DETAILED MONSTER ANIMATIONS, AND A PERFECT ACCOMPANYING SOUNDTRACK.
THE GAME STORY IS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD, AS THE PREVIOUS DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS GAMES HAVE BEEN. IT BASICALLY TELLS YOU ABOUT SOME THINGS THAT YOU HAVE TO DO, BEFORE YOU GET INTO A TOURNAMENT. IN THE PATH TO THE TOURNAMENT, YOU START LEARNING A LIL BIT ABOUT THE LAND, THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE, AND THE TOWNS STORIES OR LEGENDS.
WHAT REALLY BRINGS THE DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS GAMES TO LIFE, IS THE BREEDING SYSTEM. IT JUST AIN'T A SYSTEM WHERE YOU WANT TO GET THE SAME MONSTER, BUT, EVERYTIME YOU BREED, YOU GET A COMPLETELY NEW MONSTER, WITH THE SKILLS AND STATS INHERITED BY THE PARENTS.
THE MUSICAL SCORE IS COMPOSED BY THE SAME PERSON WHO HAS BEEN IN CHARGE OF THE MUSIC OF PREVIOUS DRAGON QUEST GAMES. KOICHI SUGIYAMA'S MARK IS REALLY NOTICEABLE ON THIS GAME, BUT INSTEAD OF GIVING YOU THE ADVENTURING AND KINDA LONELY MUSIC YOU GET FROM GAMES LIKE DRAGON QUEST I~III, YOU GET A COMPLETELY NEW MUSIC, WICH PRETTY MUCH MAKES YOU FEEL AS IF YOU WERE TRAVELING WITH YOUR COMPANIONS, IN A WORLD THAT JUST IS BEGGING TO GET EXPLORED.
ON THE GRAPHICS SIDE OF THE GAME, WELL, THE DRAGON QUEST SERIES HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTICEABLE FOR THEIR SHINY GRAPHICS OR A LOT OF VIDEOS, BUT FOR STORY AND GAMEPLAY. ANYWAYS, IF YOU'VE PLAYED OR WATCHED DRAGON QUEST 8, THIS GAME SPORTS THE SAME QUALITY OF GRAPHICS AND ANIMATIONS, ONLY ADAPTED TO THE SMALL SCREEN.
WELL I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS REVIEW, I MIGHT AS WELL END THIS BY SAYING THAT, EVEN WHILE BEING A "SPIN OFF" GAME, IT DOESN'T GIVE OUT THAT SENSATION.
SOOOO, FOLLOWING THE IGN SCORING SYSTEM:
GRAPHICS: 9/10
LOSES 1 POINT FOR SUPER PIXELY SKY, BUT OTHERWISE PERFECT

UHM, WELL, IT DOESN'T APPLY TO RPG'S ...
