DRAGON BALL FighterZ - Trunks Reveal Trailer

Some very weird hot takes going on in this thread right now.

Next we are going to be hearing people say that Bio-Broly was legit the best thing in the series.

I think you would wanted Trunks to beat up Cell's perfect ass.

Nah, I'm in the camp that says Vegeta should have been the one to defeat Cell after seeing Trunks get shot and realizing everything was his fault at this point. End the saga with a Gallick Gun vs Kamehameha battle similar to the one in the Saiyan Saga, except this time Vegeta is in the hero role.

He turns SSJ2 because some robot he knew for like 10 minutes gets killed.

Gohan spends almost the entire Android/Cell arc as a glorified background character, the plot doesn't involve him at all, and he is the last of the Saiyans to even reach Super Saiyan. Gohan getting pushed into the hero role at the 11th hour was super unearned and forced.

Here's another fact: Trunks and Vegeta had the power to legit kill Cell.. thing is those muscles handicapped them. So them going above ssj in the wrong way is what prevented them from bodying Cell. Goku at least was smart enough to see it from a far.

Adult Gohan is the only Gohan who's interesting because that's when he finally develops a personality and stops being an audience self-insert character. I always thought him going SSJ2 and defeating Cell felt extremely unearned.
Saying kid Gohan didn't have a personality is a bit ridiculous imo. Growing up he was always a kind, gentle natured kid who does not enjoy fighting like pretty much every other fighter but instead he does it because he has to in order to save his friends. It's not so much that he was a different person as an adult, it's more that he finally could be who he wanted to be instead of who he was forced to be.

Also, from the very beginning of Z it was shown Gohan had ridiculous power potential though rage and need, that's just a part of his character. I don't feel him being the one to defeat Cell was an unearned thing given all the training and fighting and story buildup he had up to that point.

I actually kinda hope they wait on Adult Gohan for DBFZ until more DBSuper has aired cause maybe he'll have more interesting attacks they could implement by then.

Trunks is probably my most hated character.

Maybe it's time for a villain.

Well, technically, this doesn't disqualify Piccolo.

I do think Piccolo is next though - he's the next most popular character, all of the core DBZ villains sans-Raditz are already announced, the hero side of the roster desperately needs a non-Saiyan, and he has a pretty solid moveset.

I mean I can understand Trunks not being everyones favorite, but to hate him is something else.

Dude is likeable as hell. He doesn't fuck around, etc.

Hell Vegeta let Cell persuade him into absorbing the Androids so he could face a tougher opponent.

... there's some weird opinions in here.

Anyway, I thought it pretty cool that the soon-to-appear beta will have 2 more characters than we currently know of.

Minus the fan favorite war, it'd make a lot of sense of the next 2 revealed (and soon playable) were of very different gameplay than the cast of blonde hair'd close range brawlers we have now.

If Piccolo really does play like ASW Dhalsim / Duo Lon, that could make him a shoe-in. Frieza's the closest thing we have to a range-focused character right now, with his wealth of various projectiles. True ranged normals that could even lead to combos of grapples from a distance, would really separate him from the current roster.

Krillin could work as he'd be one of our weaker characters, and could fit the "better as a support" role very nicely, with Solar Flares and Destructo Disk Barrage Lockdown / potential for a fast, unblockable super.

It'd be even better to see someone wacky and unexpected though. With potentially 8 relatable, expected mainstays, going nuts in true ASW fashion on the 9th slot would be wonderful. Put the idea that there could be massive differences in some character designs and concepts on notice. Let their fan base know that players of Kokonoe, Arakune, Carl Clover, Jacko, or Zato 1, will have someone they relate to within this new franchise.

A sword cut Frieza in half, Frieza cut himself in half with his energy disc, and Destructo Disc could cut people regardless of how strong they were. If anything you'd think more people would be running around with sharp objects.

Nah I don't though and you compared a sword to energy. They're hands have been stronger than metal since Goku got blasted on in the first scene of DB.

Only reason I can see people disliking him is because "whiny and daddy issues"

No matter how strong people are in Dragon Ball they can still be hurt bad by swords if they aren't ready. Yajirobe is weak as hell but was still able to cut Vegetas tail off and cut Vegeta in the back and seriously hurt him.

Yeah that didn't make much sense to me either. I also remember that Goku got hurt when Krillin threw a rock at him and when Gohan bled when his teacher whipped him.

I hate his design, I hate that there are like 4-5 different versions of him, due timeshit.
I hate his personality. I hate his sword. I hate his purple/blue hair. I hate his attitude.
I don't even have the slightest idea why he is popular by the fanbase.

I honestly thought people, hated him, just like me.

Trunks has 1 cool moment and just exist after that, he's not all that cool, interesting or even fun outside of his early appearance.

Sone of you are touching on a big concern of mine that hit me as soon as Trunks was revealed. I'm not seeing much of a range in character specific fight mechanics. Trunks doesn't seem to have a unique sword mechanic, he is just simply animated with it. I am hoping for diverse differences between characters like we see in bb, gg, persona series.

Although the producer mentioned the six e3 characters are basic ones anyone can pickup and play, trunks looks to be in the same category. It now hits me that Cell and Buu in particular are missed opportunities for really interesting mechanics and they really should have done so with them if they were to go down this route. For example Cell could have called upon his mini cells to fight in this battle like rachel, nu, or jacko specific mechanics. They could hang around on-screen and grab, explode, shoot fireballs, etc.

Piccolo should be interesting as well but if he isnt then i may just have the wrong expectations for this game. Im not a VS type of player so perhaps this kind of diversity doesnt work well in a VS type game. At this point i figure manipulation of the overall system mechanics and character specific supers and assists matter more. Is that how this game may be?

Yup it's my number 1 concern with the game so far, everyone jumped and breathed down my neck when I shared similar concerns so i'm just in wait and see mode for now. I hope Piccolo is dalshim-y or something.

It's much harder to balance a game with assists than something like Guilty Gear.

When it comes down to it, every VS game with assists has been about either developing touch of death combos or, if that's not possible, maximizing your advantage with resets and oppressive mix-ups. Damage output is low in this game so high level DBZF is going to look a lot like Skullgirls IMO.

We don't need that many Gokus...
what we do need is MORE GOHANS!!
I guess I prefer the English pronunciations as that's exactly what the names are, the Japanese version simply is limited by the way the language works. Though the English did change Ten Shin Han's name to simply Tien lol. And Frieza is actually the correct name of the character, seeing as how the original "Furiiza" doesn't end with the extended "A", which is typically used in Japanese to represent the "er" sound for words like rider or freezer.
Wow in a way that's kinda sad but also fun for us since I can't remember another anime with a Lat dub like this one lol You're right about Tenshinhan, and now matter the arguments, you're never going to convince me that Funi Frieza is cooler than menacing Lat Freezer :P What about Chiaotzu/Chaos?

Toriyama is involved in Super.

Super is a DBZ sequel.

Depends on how much though.
Nor the interest in a sequel out side another movie, especially since I really stopped caring about a good amount of the characters as time has gone on.

All we need is Teen Gohan and Great Saiyaman.

Depends on how much though.

It got everything that made the original two series great (past the movie-retelling episodes). If you can get past the characters not being buff anymore, and the lack of the gritty 90s artstyle, there is no reason to not be into Super.

The Dragon Ball series is loved mainly for its characters, and Super does not disappoint in that regard like GT did.

Kid Buu is a core DBZ villain that hasn't been announced yet. And before your rebuttal, Majin Buu is not Kid Buu; Kid Buu is unique enough to warrant his own spot. Also, you mention Raditz as a core villain, but Kid Buu is way more noteworthy.

So yeah, Kid Buu :]
Nah I'll just go read One Piece.
If you're gonna be this dismissive, then stop spewing nonsense.

Somebody should get into Trunks's time machine and take this game back to the 90s/00s and blow some fucking minds.

If the roster is going to be limited to somewhere in the 20s I honestly think Kid Buu might get cut.

I believe the name in japanese is read as Chaozu, and while Ten Shin Han's name is a reference to fried rice, his is a reference to dumplings.
Baby Vegeta > Goku Black.
How to lose your credibility 101.
