I like the changes they're making to BoG so far. Some stuff's drawn out, but still good. The 7~ minutes of oolong was something i almost skipped over but it ended up great. Does anyone think Frieza's going to turn out differently entirely? They really have no reason to stick to the script on that one as it's all open from there. Speculation below:

Personally, i want them to save Frieza. Champa should see him as a weapon against the saiyans and whisk him away instead of goku vaporizing him last minute. Maybe Gohan finally decides he needs to keep his fighting skills sharp after the BoG incident and starts training with piccolo all over again.

A man can dream.

I hope Frieza's army is larger, that Goten, Trunks, and Buu actually make appearances, and Yamcha is still sidelined.

That's all I want.

I have to imagine that a certain police officer will get a proper introduction this time, he just felt out of place in the movie lol. But yeah in general I feel like it will be decently different, we will perhaps get to see more training from both sides and have some new things go down.

I'm not sure if I want him to be saved to bring back later though, lets just meet a new enemy to love even more :P

I don't see it happening. The main plot outline is still from Toriyama. There's no reason to assume he'd completely throw away something he just wrote. Super has had various chances to expand on elements from Battle of Gods, but it has rarely used them, just making things more dragged on without actual new events. The biggest changes have been to fairly inconsequential elements, like replacing the bingo dance with chief Vegeta - or actually due to censorship, like removing everything relate to the scenes with drunk Gohan in the movie, without even replacing them with anything else.

At best, I see Super keeping Goten and Trunks around for RoF, since those two disappearing from the tv show would be even odder than not appearing in the movie.

The Ressurection F adoptation gives them a great chance to let Vegeta show off his skills a bit more, looking forward to that.

I just want to know how Freeza's ship
not being destroyed
will be used. Considering they now
have a more extreme regeneration tank,
I would think that will play a part beyond RoF.

ok, going with the theme of " toriyama forgot " heres one from DBZ that bugs the shit out of me.

When Goku comes out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber along with Gohan, they are both living their normal lives as Super Saiyans. Vegeta and Trunks both see this, and Vegeta figures it out quite easily.

He then goes and trains for a whole year with this knowledge.

Yet .... when he arrives to face Cell ... he is a regular Saiyan. He isn't adopting what Goku and Gohan both figured out, and he saw the benefit of. With the intellect and " battle sense " that Vegeta has, I really don't see any reason he would not have been doing the exact same thing, except for " Toriyama forgot "

And I hate that.

Last episode was amazing.

I finally got some excitement and chills from DBZ super past the first episode !

It was just great.

Yes they waste time, but it's because, Super is trying to get stand alone episodes, where one episode = one chapter.

Which I think is worth it. I'd rather have a slowish anime, with fillers losing a bit of time, than dreading "powering up" or "ki battle" that last a full episode, and cut scenes anywhere randomly like old school DBZ.

Here the chapter was "Goku learns how to master god ki" .

The quality was great.

Also if some of you don't know, Toei took the habit to air unfinished episodes, for saint seiya and sailor moon, and given how bad episode 5 looked, so is DBZ super, they usually fix a lot of things for the bluray release.

Look at that :

I'm happy to see such quality in Dragon Ball Super, finally.

It's also very different from battle of gods in the way things unfold, and that's much better.

No.

It makes perfect sense. Vegeta has too much on his mind all the time, to be able to reach a "zen super saiyan" state.

It's a plot point of the next Dragon Ball Super arc, they explain why Vegeta, despite his undeniable talent, is always lagging behind Goku. It's because he is never relaxed and puts a permanent strain on his body and mind.

I am pretty sure that does not happen in the manga at all.

great episode

I am enjoying this fight more than the one in the movie

and for the love of god please stop using king kai. his VA is god awful

I don't understand why the Battle of Gods fight is being done in the anime when it was already covered in the movie.

Because they retconned the movie.

Dragon Ball Super is the sequel to DBZ, it modifies and retells the events told in the movies, and will move on to untold stories.

It's just about 15 episodes worth of retelling, it's not that bad.

I think it was a mistake to (apparently) remove the time limit of the Super Saiyan God transformation, since now we get this entire episode just about Goku "warming up" to his new power, while if there was still a limit they could have jumped to a serious battle and then ended the episode with a cliff hanger about Goku losing the power. In any case though, I was pleasantly surprised by the battle. The animation wasn't really good, merely serviceable, but that's actually an improvement over all of Super's battle focused episodes so far.

On top of that though, the battle, although having some moments of "they're moving too fast and we only see the impacts from a distance" and a few ki blasts, mostly focused on melee fighting that could be followed by the viewer. I feared that Super could end up with battles similar to the ones from GT due to lack of Toriyama involvement in the actual storyboarding, but it seems like that won't happen.

It actually will be about 12 episodes to retell BoGs (although there were a few extra episodes before the actual retelling started) and then 12 for RoF, based on the Blu-Ray listing and known episode titles. Only after that the original story will start.

The character design and drawings were top notch, despite not being crazy smooth animation. You can't deny that.

And I think the reason they took out the time limit (or made it longer) was so that they don't have Goku turning super saiyan after absorbing god Ki right now.

Since SSGSS should happen. They want to save that for later.

It now reflects the promo animations of DB Heroes, DB battle of Z, and xenoverse, to see God Goku fight Beerus in space, i think it's funny.

Well , RoF skipped many things.

Jaco, Vegeta SSG, Freeza's training. Pan's birth.

So those 12 episodes are actually needed.

Man that was great, Goku vs Beerus fight is already far better than the movie version.

Holy shit King Kai's VA is turribulle!

It's like a B-movie, so-bad-it's-good kind of thing.

Also, when did the Kamehameha become a Hadoken?
To be fair English marble mouth and this aged voice actor are both terrible. I understand keeping the Japanese voice actor for older fans and stuff but damn.

I love Sean Schemmel King Kai. Way more personality than this version and he actually fits what's happening on screen!

Fantastic episode.

I had a great time watching this. Nice adaptation, too. I like how he's getting progressively stronger as he fights.

This is finally what we've been wanting.

At first I thought he was salty throughout the entire episode because he didn't get to be the one fighting, so it kind of caught me off guard.

I think he probably was, but then he couldn't help himself from enjoying the battle unfold.

Yup, classic Goku...learning to fight as he fights.

Just like the ritual, I feel this battle is going to diverge from the movie quite a bit based on the recent episode and could be something special.
