Hah, this was a cute episode. One thing that really sticks out to me is seeing Goku and Goten hanging out. We didn't really get to see them interact much in the original stuff so that's nice.

I'm not really a fan of how the show looks visually (the filter/textures on that snake were horrible, for example.) but it gets the job done I guess.

Yeah, I am hoping this series is full of Goten and Goku interactions. Goten really is the son Goku always wanted, and so he may not avoid him like he avoided Gohan.

edit: Also a bit sad about Videl pretty much losing her personality (or rather having it transferred to a fetus).

Enjoyed that first episode, although :lol at
Goku pretty much abandoning his family before the episode had even ended.

No one is pissed, just LOOK at this, this is a lovely, happy family.

Oh my god, Goku si such a fucking asshole. How can anyone root for the guy? He's the worst good guy ever xD

First episode was great! It really feels a like a true continuation of the series. The lightheartedness and comedy was good, too.

Eh, saying Goten is "the son Goku always wanted" sounds a bit harsh. It's not like Goku is disappointed in Gohan or anything. He reached his personal goal of making Gohan the strongest in the Universe (at the time anyways).

All the time Goku didn't spend with Gohan he also didn't spend with anyone else either.

Gohan Age 0-3/4 : Completely spent with Gohan
Radditz appears, Goku sacrifices himself -> 1 yr training, necessary because otherwise everyone else would be dead when Vegeta shows up
Vegeta and Nappa appear, are defeated. Goku heavily injured while Gohan Krillin and Bulma travel to Namek. Goku follows later because Senzu beans aren't ready yet -> circa 1 month without Gohan, not his fault
Frieza is dead, Namek asplode, Goku lands on Yadrat and (as later turns out) decides to stay there and lean Instant transmission -> 1.5 years without anyone
Goku arrives back on earth, everyone learns about androids -> 3 years of training with Gohan and Piccolo every day
Cell absorbs Androids, blabla Hyperbolic Time Chamber -> "1 year" exclusively spent with Gohan
Last prep for Cell games -> Spent with Gohan and Chichi
Gohan fucks up while fighting Cell and Goku dies as a result, chooses to stay dead because he thinks it's better for everyone that way. -> 7 years before anyone sees him again. Piccolo stays with Dende in that time iirc

Turns out no one besides Chichi actually spends more time with Gohan than Goku. While he was alive he definitely didn't avoid him, that's bullshit. That impression only exists because Goku spending time with Gohan is never actually shown on-screen. We didn't see Gohan age 0-4, we didn't see the 3 year training and we didn't really see the year spent in the hyperbolic time chamber. The real reason Goten and Gohan turn out so different isn't Goku at all - it's Chichi. Being her first son she rested all her expectations on Gohan, that isn't the case at all with Goten. We learn (to the suprise of Gohan) that Chichi actually wrestles with Goten while he (Gohan) is at school and we know that he (Goten) gets to spend a lot of free time fooling around with Trunks while Gohan had to do homework all day when he was Goten's age. She's much more relaxed with his upbringing and it shows in his personality.

I like how Piccolo ain't got shit to do other than follow Gohan and his girl around.

He's just mad because Gohan's happy not doing fighting stuff. Probably hard to understand if you're technically still Earth's Demon King!

I loved this episode. It really feels like Dragon Ball, which is awesome as someone who grew up on it.
I only just got that they did a whole tease of someone throwing a Kamehameha then went "nope".

I also liked that they made Hercule have a spine of sorts. He's lying to the public about how strong he is, sure (and if you disregard ki users he probably is the strongest fighter on Earth?) but the fact he gives the money to Goku of his own free will is nice.

Fingers crossed after settling in with these scene-setting episodes we can get on with the cool fights.

Gohan fought his whole life and even died. I think he deserves a break after not having a childhood at all. I always did think him becoming absolutely useless was rather rude towards his character development however. It's good to see he hasn't lost his mystic form in the intro for one, but since this is only 6 months later, I have a feeling he will lose it overtime...

Best wishes.

They blew a chance to introduced a female saiyan, instead of 6months after Buu it should have been 7 years, Bulma/Vegeta have a girl, oh well.

i think gohan will start training again,
otherwise there would be no reason to show us piccolo watching over gohan

Gohan needs people to fight for to train, which is why his Cell Future version is extremely powerful and in his current form is somewhat weak. He's more naturally a scholar and average joe, which was reflected in his early childhood when he really didn't naturally fight unlike his dad.

I'm expecting Gohan to have his badass moments at some point, when the buck ends up stopping with him again.

EDIT: Out of interest, what's Jaco's (sp? Alien space policeman) exact role in the DBZ canon now? He showed up prior in his own manga series, and seems to now be in this show. What'd he actually do in RoF?

He warns Bulma about the upcoming invasion and then does some fighting himself, using the gun she built when he visited while she was a child.

Why would they just introduce a brand new character (who would be a huge deal) in the very first episode of it coming back? There's a chance they might still do it.

I'll be so disappointed if they don't do this sometime this series. Even better if she was a villain as impossible as it sounds

I always thought that was fucked up.

Soooo kinda late to the party, but I've read contradictory information on the matter: we know the series follows the death of Buu, but what is the position of the latest two movies in repect to the series? Does the series begin before BOG? Are they making BOG a saga inside the series or what?

first 10 episodes fillers

then he follow battle of god

after that rof

and in the last part universe 6

first 10 episodes fillers

There's nothing worse in Anime than talk of filler, cannon and retcons. Not directed at specifically at you but this is something which I've noticed tends to dominate discussion on most Anime forums.

Is that confirmed? 10 episodes of filler? Why would they need to stall for time that much -- the movies are done already!
I don't think that's confirmed. It's most likely a guess but it doesn't sound too far off honestly.

The series begin before BOG

BOG and ROF will be adopted into 2 arcs into the story (expanded retelling of both movies).

Think of BOG/ROF as the "Dragon Ball Path To Power" movie. The main elements are canon (eg SSG concept, Frieza resurrection)

Well, consider that Goku has never really known Goten. The six months between Buu and now are basically the only six months they've spent together. He's playing catch up for lost time (or, he was :lol).

edit: Also a bit sad about Videl pretty much losing her personality (or rather having it transferred to a fetus).

I think she did a nice thing to the kids and also expressed the point that Goku family is poor as heck so
it was more poignant when Mr Satan give Goku the money
. Is a nice contrast with Videl PreTournoment.

Goku is already training with Kaio next week though, and he's training there in the beginning of BoGs. I can't see them extending the training that much, especially since it can't be plot relevant at all.

Piccolo looked utterly disgusted in witnessing scholar Gohan walking around with his boo. Since GT isn't cannon any more I want this disgust to turn into hatred and have Piccolo slowly transform into a villain by the end of the series. Like kill off videl to bring out Gohan's true power or something.

That, or have Piccolo fall in love and start a family of his own.

No middle road.

In regards to Gohan, he should still be strong here as he fights when Beerus shows up. It's the timeskip between Beerus and Freeza's resurrection where he weakens.

The DB manga is canon though and at the end of it (Uub's chapter) Piccolo and Videl are alive and well.
