Dragon Ball Super |OT| 28 Episodes Later

Honestly the choreography in Dragonball Z was never very good. As the series went on it seemed to be less martial arts, more powerful, single shot devastating blows to demonstrate speed/power.

The early movies probably had some of the best fights, like Dead Zone and the World's Strongest.

Agreed. The first 2 movies still had that martial arts movie feel to them kinda like OG Dragonball. I've said this before but movies 1&2 seem so much different than movies 3-13.

A little late commenting on this because I haven't been paying attention to this thread recently, but
I'm so happy that Gohan wants to fight

Even outside of the bad frames, DBS looks poor, like Kagari mentioned quite a lot already, the computer drawn characters look out of place and way too clean.
I mean everything that gets posted here which is labelled as decent from the show looks off.

The characters are drawn by hand, and on paper. Not on computer.
The colouring is done through digital. And digital can 100% mimic old style, so this has nothing to do with it being digital. It's just their new art direction.
Just FYI. .

Honestly, even in th Buu saga the art started to get progressively more clean in the anime.
And am I crazy or something, because Goku looks fine in the above picture.

It's interesting (and irritating, if I'm honest) that so many people blame "digital" for clean lines and lack of shading, detail, etc.

It's a stylistic choice. You can do a rough style digitally, and you can do a clean style on paper.

Honestly, even in th Buu saga the art started to get progressively more clean in the anime.

You're not crazy; he looks fine.

I don't know.

The scene is that Vegeta tells him about Freeza's weakness, which makes him smug, and then Freeza gets mad. The art absolutely conveys that.

It might be a bit off model but it's absolutely not bad art.

ssj4 looks like something a five year old would imagine as the coolest thing in the world

and then at six years old, immediately look back and regret their entire life

And SSG and SSGSS look like every fan art recolor of preexisting screenshots relabeled as "Super Saiyan 6 Goku "

Quite literally something you would see on deviantart.
SS4 was great because it was something different, not just hey his hair is blonde and longer.

Now we just have hey his hair is blue. They didn't even keep the slender builds from SSG.

Why do people use the J in the SSJ? It makes 0 sense in english.

ooooouuu already in the Frieza stuff, huh? I am actually interested what happens after that since I've already seen the movies. There are 3 arcs in this right? With one being entirely new

Last I heard (though this may just be hope/rumor), they want to do over 100 episodes for Super. We know what the next arc - the first new arc - will be, but there will surely be more stuff after that.

The Frieza arc has one episode left then the new stuff starts. So it will the perfect time to jump in if you have watched the movies. There's also a couple of funny non movie episodes in between the battle of gods and the frieza stuff.

I think the lack of blood makes the current animation seem a bit sterile as well. There was a lot of blood used in DBZ to good effect.

It's fair to say that the majority of the animation is a massive downgrade when compared to the movies which is what we all do subconsciously. That's why it just seems so lacklustre.

13 consecutive frames of animation on Frieza's face and all of them look like this:

How dare the animators put the extra effort to give freeza some facial experssions(That's actually a great shot imo).

Even the best animated anime episode will look terrible when you screen shot in-betweens,crop the image then in large distant character shots severely times there original insteaded size(yes even one punch man).

This episode was very far from bad, they were plenty of good animation in more of an expressive abstract form which is too be expected from the animator who worked on it(naoki tate).

naoki tate

This episode had a few uncomfortable places where it looked like the animation was for speaking, but it was filled in with very slow chuckling...It's not even dubbed so that stuck out even more than it would have if it was in english. Was that just me?

That's a nice gif. Tate is great.

It's weird that Frieza is wrecking Goku, only to get slayed by "I'm tired!". The movie did it better - far more even, but with Frieza having a slight upperhand.

It's like, what's the point of the new form? Obviously they'll need to train it for the next arc and such, but it just feels underpowered after that big display with Beerus.

I wonder how the transformation would have been recieved if the original SS was changed for the SSG look (probably without that red aura technique used earlier)
