Isn't it funny that the U7 team is mostly
reformed former enemies of Goku?
This is the series in a nutshell.

No one should be expecting SSJ4 in any of this.
No, but we can expect something similar, a spiritual successor of sorts. Well, expect is a strong word; hope for is a better term.
Based on the new story about Planet Vegeta not being the Saiyan homeworld, taking bits and pieces from GT isn't unprecedented.

Planet Vegeta not being the original Saiyan home world is something Toriyama came up with for Toei to use as Saiyan Arc filler.
And no, an SSJ4 successor is not something you should expect, Toriyama specifically said that starting with SSJ3 the Saiyan transformations were getting too complicated.

I also wish Goten and Trunks would come back but only if they grow up a bit. Their immaturity schtick is so tiresome. It was tiresome a decade ago.

If they do come back though, Trunks should definitely be more than just a little stronger than Goten considering you see him training with Vegeta in some of the openings and end credits. If Gohan slacks, I can't imagine Goten keeping up with his training whatsoever.

So what do we know about the timeline placement of super? I thought it was established in the first episode that it was like 2 wishes time after kid buu was defeated.

Well right now Pan has just been born and she was 4 at the end of Z (which is 10 years following the end of Buu itself) so...

Likely the BoG and F arcs have the same placement as the movie versions, the narrator said "some time has passed since then" when talking about the wishes after Kid Buu was defeated.

EDIT: Yeah, Pan is a pretty big tell that they have the same placement as the movie versions.

Goten has fun fighting and "play" fights with Trunks.

Yeah, but Trunks trains with the prince of all saiyans in high gravity chambers.

Where does Goten train? ON A FARM??!
Goten is a prodigy though. He picked up flying and the kamehameha with little difficulty. Put him in the time chamber and he'll be a real force to be reckoned with, probably even moreso than Gohan if he stays in there long enough.

To clarify on what I meant by spiritual successor, I meant Gohan getting some sort of new form that's different from the typical Saiyan transformation.

Does anyone else hold hope that the battles in the new arc will at least feel epic? I've felt like the fights thus far lack a certain punch to them. DBZ battles always felt like this massive crazy situation, while Super is just like a street brawl with little concern or consequence.

It started 4 years after Buu. A year passed between BoG and RF. So we're right in the middle of the 10-year the time skip at the end of Z.

I just want to see both Trunks and Goten move away from their comedy relief status. It's played out at this point and I feel like the writers don't know what to do with them anymore.

Yeah, I absolutely hate how irrelevant Goten and Trunks are. They never have anything interesting or important to do other than being idiots as Gotenks.

They are the 4th and 5th strongest characters amongst the Z-warriors (probably) but more importantly, they seem to have the potential to be stronger than their own fathers by quite some distance. It's a massive shame that they aren't used like proper characters with actual development.

It's good to see Gohan getting some actual development but you have 5 saiyans here, not 3.

I don't know about epic but anything approaching the level of previous tournament fights in terms of techniques and drama would be a nice surprise.

The BoG arc's climax felt pretty epic. And Vegeta VS Freeza was pretty fucking epic, though more in a "OH SHIT SON" kind of way.

Dormant potential and who has more between Goten/Trunks and Gohan always confused me.

It's easy to just say that Goten and Trunks have much more potential because they reached SSJ status in a much easier fashion. They learn things more quickly.

However, Gohan is the one whose potential is being mentioned even in recent material... by Vegeta of all people. Why wouldn't Vegeta mention his own son instead if Trunks is that far ahead of Gohan in terms of potential. I don't think its because he's a kid, for obvious reasons.

I think Gohan was always supposed to have unrivaled potential compared to the rest of the saiyans but I still believe Goten and Trunks have more potential than their fathers because I'm guessing being half human is somehow beneficial to their development. Shame the story doesn't really reflect that aside from the beginning of the Buu saga.

It probably is because he's a kid, although not related to his power level. Goten/Trunks/Gotenks are incredibly unreliable because they tend to goof off and not take anything seriously, which is a liability.

goten / trunks have more theoretical potential but gohan has more realistic potential

what i mean by this is,
yeah goten and trunks are young prodigies, they turned super saiyan at 8 years and 7 years old with little to no training... but their entire lives has been spent playing like actual little kids. they don't care about fighting or training.
gohan was raised fighting all the time for his life until he was an adult, lost his way, but still has shown in the pass that he has a wonderful potential for great things and has achieved them

in the end, it all comes down to AT's reluctance to do anything proper with goten and trunks

Good point. Start by making them look of proper age.
Make a note that they still spar from time to time so we know they haven't gotten soft like Gohan.

Goten/Trunks/Gotenks needs a role other than them being involved in mischief.

Oh, I still think Goten/Trunks have more potential compared to Goku/Vegeta but I mean in comparison to Gohan. There's just some things that don't make sense.

The way I try to make sense of it is saying that Goten/Trunks are more talented, as in they don't really need a guide, pick things up easier. However, Gohan while needing guidance does have the more room for growth.

Vegeta and Goku should take just their kids with them into the HTC for a day and carve him into shape. Neither Vegeta or Goku would want to take time away from their own training though.

His hair and shirt are like one giant proclamation on his part

"I AM NOT GOKU"

Good on Toriyama for complaining to Toei, Dragon Ball deserves a lot more than shitty animation. Now with all that been said, I wish Oda would complain to Toei about the One Piece anime, episodes like the Gear 4th one should be the norm not the exception

The problem is even Akira toriyama complaining to them is going to get him at best a "and you'll do what exactly about it?".

Guys Gohan has more potential. Goten and Trunks reached SSJ sooner but that has nothing to do with their potential, which overall is less than Gohan's.
