if funimation had free rights to super they would have done a broadcast dub with it, plain and simple
we would only be like 4-5 episodes behind on the dub.
they are not even simulcasting it which is drastically different than pretty much every other show out there.
it's clearly locked in some sort of TV deal, we just don't know the details aside from funimation can't currently talk about it.
i mean super aside we are still waiting for the dbz kai buu arc to get a dub announcement. that one has been years. you really think funimation would have skipped getting the rights to their cash cow, and would choose to sit on a dub instead of releasing it just because?
they are clearly being blocked somewhere the question is when their hands will be untied.
and that is getting more and more likely it won't be for a long time.
Again, as far as I know only two dubs have even been announced, and those are for China and Korea and we know Toei plans to launch the show in Europe at the end of the year. Funimation not having announced a dub yet is no different than the rest of the world and according to Funimation the hold up is all on Toei's end. Toei is likely still in talks with US networks trying to work out a deal, they probably plan to launch the show here around the same time as Europe (which would be extra beneficial since Funimation's dub could be used for the UK).
Buu Kai is weird, it could be that someone has the TV rights to it and we just have to wait, but if I'm not mistaken the only dub of Buu Kai that has come out is the French one, so again it's not really something exclusive to Funimation.
I would not be surprised in the slightest if Buu Kai and Super start airing at the same time, with Super either taking the opening slot of Adult Swim from the Kai rerun of the previous week or they shuffle things so that the rerun is gone and Super opens Toonami and is followed by Buu Kai.
