So far the maps feel like larger to scale DQIX zones than DQVIII but the graphics in the PS4 version makes the world still feel large enough. FF should consider going towards this direction instead, larger zones but not necessarily open world.

So kind of like a next-gen FFXII? I can dig that then. And yeah, FF should follow the same road.

Basically like that. Some maps do feel smaller because of the horse or rideable monsters.

I'd hoped to finish by the end of my vacation, but that's definitely not going to happen. I was out of commission yesterday due to the air conditioner going out, anyway. Still feels like a long way to go, but I'm still loving every second of it. I'm glad I'm further than some people though since I've been seeing stuff I'd personally consider spoilery posted openly both here and on Twitter.

Ah sorry to hear that. I'd hoped to get through a good chunk too as it's a long weekend here. Still have quite a ways to go by the look of things. Opened up a bit more of the sea. So still have a lot of things to hunt down.

Is there a way to record a video and had it be saved on the PS4?

I know there's a way to stream, but I'm not familiar with this system, I'm playing on a borrowed one so I'd rather not mess up with it, so like, can I just record a video and save it on the system, to then move it to a PC?

There's a really cool sequence in the credits that I'd like to edit, so I plan to beat the game again when I get home.

The PS4 records the last fifteen minutes by default, which you can store by hitting the Share button and then press Square. Then you can go into the Media Gallery to trim the part you needed.

Nice, but can I move the footage directly to a PC?

Uploading 1080 footage would take ages on my internet.

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

Now that I think about it, it's like Dragon Quest Heroes II's kind of mapping, yeah?

Couple of questions for those that own the game.

Does clothing have stats to them or purely cosmetic?
Can you change hairstyles, most likely not, but is there a skin available that could do it?
Asking because of this video, not sure if that's part of her attack but I believe the others also change clothes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UcVdnXrSpE

The only way is copying it to a USB stick first, I think.

No and no.

That's just a pervy video showing the sexy characters do the sexy moves on different costumes.
The only way is copying it to a USB stick first, I think.
Well that's exactly what I'm going to do then!

Thanks.

So I just did the first dungeon and grabbed the orb. The problem is that I'm supposed to head east, but there's a locked door at the end of the eastern area with the gryphons...

If you got the red orb, then you should have triggered a cutscene before reaching that door. Unless you somehow managed to get the red orb without checking the pyramid-shaped rock and getting the story event at the waterfall near the southwestern exit of that area (toward Ishi village).

I should stop reading this thread. Have not been so hype for a game since forever. Think I will not be able to resist and get the Chinese PS4 version this year end.

Will still get the US 3DS and switch version (if they are not the same, else the 3DS version for street pass ) when they release.

I totally missed that rock, I don't remember anything popping up there when I first came through.

Is there a romance sidequest/mechanic? One of the trophies seemed to suggest such a thing.
Ehhhhh.

Well if you want to know.

COMPLETE GAME SPOILERS

No, there's no such options, but there is a wedding, you might get a trophy for that, I have them turned off, so no idea.

In what I assume is the second big act of the game and it's pretty cool. Compared to the first part it seems to have a stronger focus on the supporting party members over the hero.

And this game is much longer and more content packed than I expected! I'm at around 56 hours in the PS4 version, I don't grind in RPGs but I have been doing quests, making equipment, occasionally talking to NPCs, and reading books (the Nameless Treasure Hunter series had a nice twist at the end). At this rate I'll probably be the last one here to finish it.

I think you've all but caught up to me. Off vacation starting tomorrow so I expect I will be the last one to finish!

If FFIX fans will like it. does that mean DQXI will have a slow battle system, full of random quirky throwbacks, and an unexpected final boss?

How does the music hold up after many hours of play? The orchestrated DQ8 OST was a huge source of enjoyment for me, do you guys think the DQ11 OST holds up even though it's not orchestrated?

I just said its the best JRPG I've played since Final Fantasy IX, but the games aren't really similar.

Like don't expect FFIX vibe or anything.

You get used to it. I mean... I'm sure it varies by person, but the Dragon Quest series has been popular since the NES, and the music certainly isn't orchestrated there, either.

I'm not sure why FF9 keeps coming up, personally. It feels like a Dragon Quest game through and through.

for someone who loved DQ 5 and 8 for the story and probably 9 for gameplay... how much should i look forward to DQ 11? (note i havent played DQ1-4,6 and i'm going through dq 7 atm. and i'd want dq 10 because it looks like the kind of game i'd want to play)

Ok then, I come freshly from beating the post game and watching the true ending.

I'm kind of lost for words here, its hard to believe that these people have been making incredible games for 30 years, Horii and the team are still on top of their form, I'm essentially on the honey moon period yet, I was gushing through the entire ending and I'm rather shaking now, but I don't think its too crazy to call this game the best of the entire series, at the very least it has to be the best JRPG released since Final Fantasy IX, top to bottom, the game is fantastic.

Even at level 80+ the final boss was a bit of a challenge, the battle raged on for some 30 minutes, though that was also due to me stopping to listen to the fantastic music, its the hypest final boss theme of the series, as typical for super bosses it has an absurd ammount of moves per turn, but my strategy was enough to beat it anyway.

I owed mostly to my boy Camus, I actually ignored him for most of the game as I found him to be the least interesting, but goddamn he becomes incredibly powerful at later levels, if it weren't for him the final hours would've probably been a huge challenge.

Everything bit of story was compelling and interesting, every character likable and relatable, the world was beautiful and was a ton of fun to explore, every resolves in an incredibly satisfying way, I've never been as happy to see a game end since I burst into tears while reading Keifer's message at the end of VII after a grueling 2 hour battle with Orgodemir.

As a whole the entire ending sequence was this incredible love letter for long time fans, the very end specially the most, I honestly expect something special to come from that.

During my 70 hour playthrough I was never bored, the game just surpassed my wildest expectations, it was just incredible.

I'll probably write some extended thoughts tomorrow, the best stuff always happen when its super late here.

So yeah, complete the post game, you won't be dissapointed, best $100 ever spent.

Thanks for the review! It's going to be a long, long wait until this comes west next year. I hope Dragon Quest VII and FF XII can hold me over until then.

I'm surprised we haven't heard any reviews from Japanese gaming sites. I'm guessing they weren't given review copies?

IGN Japan is the only Japanese gaming site I know that gives review score.

From what I've heard review copies were sent like 2 days before release, so no time to review the game, they must've been serious about spoilers.

So after I've giving up on the Casino for a bit I've just now got to
just getting senya back in my party. Been loving the side stories for the characters. I'm guessing I have about ten hours left roughyl. Only Veronica left to get again. And two more orbs.

Can anyone tell me if I'm on the money with how much time left? I kind of don't want it to end but at the same time I do so I can start the PS4 version!

I am so jelly that you guys are playing this game. I can't wait till the US version gets here. DQVIII was one of the best games ever made imo. Ever since then I was a fan of the series. I am loving the recent JRPG renaissance.

I'm honestly finding the DQ rehash more irritating than the sound quality at this point. And man, is it surreal hearing synthesized DQ8 pieces for the first time.

On the spoiler note,
the medal "king" in this is really quite unexpected XD.

I might buy the 3DS version when I complete this. It's been so fun.
If it means we'll get LARGE, world-spanning adventures back in the FF series again, hells yeah!!! FF adventures seem to feel like they've been getting... smaller. Dragon Quest, on the other hand, still seem as big as ever.

PS4 mk2 has like 4 reviews of the game. Amazon JP as a ton of reviews that are actually fairly detailed this time and aren't folks that just complaining about one thing and giving it a bad rating.

I beat the game again an hour ago, grabbed some footage for a video I wanted to make.

I just want to reteriorate just how good the ending is, last time after the game ended I just powered off the PS4 but today I kept going, so I guess I'm in the post post game now, story is actually over though, I think at least, I doubt there's anything else.

There's still challenges to overcome, I want to see if I can get to level 99 before starting a new file, this PS4 goes back to its owner on friday, so I have to make time count.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfBMfTAQ_Xg

That's the video I made, its an edited sequence of something that plays during the ending credits, its a really nice bit.

I was planning to make it since I saw it last night, looked for footage today but couldn't find any, like really, I found 0 footage of the true ending of the game online, for the better I guess, its fantastic so don't get spoiled.

There's nothing spoilery about that video, just in case, but if you want to see it for yourself then don't click on it, its most for the people that aren't playing, I'm not sure if that's on the 3DS version of the game, given how it plays.

I might write some super extended thoughts on the game later or tomorrow, still letting it sink in, also bottom of the page.

A little bit for those who get to the ultimate end of the game, this is a really beautiful touch, but rather easy to miss, spoilers for whoever want to find it themselves, though I won't say what is is.

After the game returns you to the title screen, keep playing and return to Ishi village, return to the house of the hero, there's a great surprise waiting for you there.

Bums me out that the game seems to have an excellent reception but chances are we will still get diarrhea coming out of our speakers come western release.

Do the right thing, Square.

It's not that bad actually, for the 3ds version anyway. There's only one track I don't care for and it's the one played the prologue movie.

The reuse of music is a bit annoying though.
