Dragon Quest 11 (JP) |OT| whynotboth.gif

Just defeated the giant squid. Been leveling a bit but mostly gambled a lot for today. Got REALLY LUCKY and got a good initial hand with poker that gave me 2,000 coins and I turned that into 128,000 which I used to purchase two Platinum Swords for the Hero and Camus.

Where do I first encounter a Metal Babble in battle?

So i finally made a claim via paypal with nippon-yassan since those sucker didnt answer me in a week about the status of my order and never gave my money back.
When i arrive at home at night i will buy the 3DS digital version,
Sad thing is i will miss the 2DS LL metal slime version

Made it to the casino town. Gonna try my hand at the slot machines. The scenes leading up to the casino are pretty intense.

The boss went into zone a little of the ways into the fight and killed three of my party members. Veronica was able to hold her own though and finished him off. She's a trooper.

Which boss are you talking about? I went a bit out of order so I can't remember what the intended sequence is here. Was it the
kragon
?
If you happen to have Senya at 23, she has kabuff and that fight becomes pretty trivialized. Without it, I expect it would be tough to manage. Had I done things in the correct order, I would've gotten there with her at 21. Now I wish I had.

I think he means the spider.

Very good point but just like I recall in VIII on my very first playthrough, are you expecting to go through the game as though you've been there before when you haven't? : )

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. I'm confused.
I don't quite get what you mean with "are you expecting to go through the game as though you've been there before when you haven't?"
-------------------
I've been focusing on speccing my party towards killing metals hope it pays off later.
Senya got her crit skill. Close to give Camyu his instant death skill.
Haven't seen much more(good metal killer skills so far, only got 5 party members). Grinded the dragons in the yugnoa ruins and hit ~25.
Dunno what it is about DQ despite it annoying me in a lot of small places and being a bit on the slow side it always manages me to get into a grinding trance. The flow just feels good. Time to challenge the Colosseum though.

When you first play a game all the way through, you can expect to make mistakes. You won't master the game right away and you may need a second or third playthrough to know everything or even to do different things differently.

Edit: Never mind... wondering about how to move forward on the Silver Orb instead.

Oh I see you were expanding on my point why the wiki entry might not be complete. Thanks for clarifying
---------------
That one quest where you had to get 3 people into zone to kill that one monster at night made me miss psych up. Now I like that Zone has a lot more variety to it but it being largely rng(unless you can gain control over it later?) kinda kills it for me. The most control you can have as far as I can see is putting people in zone on the reserve bank.

How do I get to the island to start the Silver Orb?

I got the Mermaid Harp.
I leave the White Cove and I got the Green Orb from the Mermaid Queen.

I am doing something so obviously wrong. What is the dumb thing (this time) that I am obviously not doing?

Please spoiler tag your posts.
The silver orb is in
the valley north of the medal academy, which you can use the mermaid harp to reach. Your world map should now have green circles with lines, which shows you where to go and where you'll end up

A few pages back people were talking about a difficulty spike but I haven't really noticed any yet. Can any one tell me where that was? I'm currently STORY SPOILERS
in what I'm guessing is the 2nd half of them game, ruined world, heading back to the castle with Greg

Also anyone know a good place to farm metal slimes?

Moving slowly through since I've only just gotten another chance to play. Just met Veronica. She's cute and I've been in desperate need of a mage so I'm glad I'll have her soon.

Story stuff:
Hero's home village being destroyed isn't new to the genre by any means but XI really made it hit home with the time travel right before. My first thoughts upon coming back were "Oh! I'm glad everybody is okay. And there's Perla! If anybody were to touch her I'd be devastated." Then...

The PS4 cutscene direction is very reminiscent of DQ10's, which I have long held in very high esteem. It's very good.

I never played that so my closest point of comparison is dq8 but I'm not sure if it's just the shiny hd look or not. My gut does tell me improved direction is def part of it.
I especially love the actions scenes the weight of motions looks so good.

So yeah my obvious mistake was going the wrong direction. Autumn Wind fails again. Thank you Aeana for your help. Main party is at 35 now except for Senya at 34.

The cutscene direction makes me feel optimistic about VA in the Western release. They're SO good it would feel like a missed opportunity to not capitalise on that. Also it feels weird seeing a DQ game with such detailed cutscenes but I love it.

That is it yes.

I found most metal slimes in the ruined castle, they mostly showed up alongside the dragons.

I was thinking about this about an hour ago and came to the conclusion that SE would truly be fools not to at least spring for VA (orchestral treatment for the soundtrack is more uncertain because it sound like with VIII it might have not been as conscious a decision as it sounsd like Sugiyama made this time).

Basically my thought process is that:

1. Releasing even a niche game with VA doesn't seem prohibitively expensive for most companies these days.

2. Square Enix must realize that the expense of putting in VA would be worth it for a good chance to net some more casual Final Fantasy fans and other JRPG fans. Even some mainstream players who'd otherwise turn their nose up an TPG without any voice acting would be likely be intrigued by DQ XI with the proper marketing push. Maybe not very many, but the game would have to bomb extremely hard for VA not to bring in more profit than expenses. They probably know you have to spend money to make money.

3. They already brought in voice acting for VIII, and though it might not have done as well as they might have liked (I'm not sure, I think it did well enough though, right?), refusing to put in the extra effort they made in 2004 for a game that will be coming out 14 years later would be absurd.

So I'm still not 100% sure they'll go for it, but I'm about 95% sure they will. It would just be completely counter productive. Sure the hardcore fans would be fine without voice acting (just as they are in Japan), but Dragon Quest simply does not have the install base for Square Enix to risk resting on its laurels. Even overlooking the potential for this game to reach some respectable mainstream attention (which I think it has at least a chance at), Square Enix would be very dumb not to at least attempt to pull in some of their western fanbase by appealing to the standards set by Final Fantasy.

Thinking about it this way puts my mind more at ease. This will most likely be my first Dragon Quest game, and I am very much hoping for it to convert me into a series fan. It'd be a shame if SE just recoils from the challenge of bringing DQ to the west in the best way possible, especially because they already made the effort with reasonable success with VIII.

Edit:

Really hoping for orchestral music too, but like I mentioned that is way more uncertain. Maybe Sugiyama will be generous and realize trying to get ticket sales from western fans would be like trying to squeeze water from a rock. I don't still fully understand why XI doesn't have an orchestral arrangement (especially as the 3DS remake of VIII apparently brought the orchestral tracks from the western release over to Japan), but I feel like something might be able to be arranged behind the scenes. I'm hoping for the orchestral treatment, but I'm only expecting VA.

Edit 2:

Plus, with what you've said about cut scenes and what I've already seen, it would be super weird for them to have animated such detailed scenes (including mouth movement) if they weren't planning to insert voice acting at some point.

Looking to do more power leveling and skill unlocking soon so...

Where are Metal Babbles the most common and the same question for Metal Kings?

You won't see metal kings for a looong time still.

For metal babbles
I found them most commonly on the library dungeon on the snowy part of the world.

Oh, really? I might do some farming there later today then. I don't think they were there in the
first half of the game

Thank you very much, Ōkami. I do not think I am there yet.
Just got the Magic Key.

Can I say that I prefer in boss fights no use of
Attract type moves
just give me heavy attack, heavy magic attack, heavy defense, heavy magic defense, high hp, go first, and attack 2 or even 3 times.

I am reminded of the bonus temple in DQVIII 3DS with the Super Jessica and her abuse of Attract on male party members.
Lots of profanity during that fight.

In the first part of the game, the slime island in the northeast part of the map has metal slimes and liquid metal slimes. The liquid metal slimes join in battle with the king slimes most often.

Do they actually appear with other monsters as well? Because I only saw them with King Slimes. Also haven't encountered any regular metals there, but I guess I wasn't lucky.

I don't know for sure.

Regular metals appear with the regular slimes all the time, though.

Where in the castle do they pop up? In the dungeon?

think I need to level because Rou is kicking my ass

Bowgun adventure is radical.
It rewards the compulsive itch I have in games to check every nook and cranny, and I get cool seeds for it. Just got 4 skill seeds for the most recent one I did. Now I just need to figure out which of the islands I'm missing a target on...

I'd recommend going to the island Aeana mentioned, I didn't know about it.
Are those slimes appearing with dragons just regular metal slimes?

Yep.

Mind you I grinded there before getting all the party members, on the first half of the game.

Level 50 is enough to make quick work of the final boss, I don't see the point of overleveling really, now I'm level 70 and I'm decimating the post game.

Either way you're better off fighting metal kings in the final dungeon.

Any tips for
Rou? I'm lvl36 which seems plenty for the monsters around where I am but he's destroying me

There's one more good location with metal enemies near the end of the game -
the volcano
.
Metal Hands, they use Zaki, so it can get dangerous. 36k for one kill.

The one on one fight?

Yeah, gave me quite a headache too, the idea is to be able to read Rou's moves to be able to block grand cross, and to get rid of the clones as soon as possible.

Essentially, usa gigaslash to deal with the clones, a single attack should be anough to get rid of them.

Rou will always do these prepare move, for lack of a better term, before grand cross, so when he does that just defend to lower the damage, sometimes he will do grand cross without letting you move though, so keep your health above 200, else grand cross will kill you.

Use the attack where the hero summons a golden sword to attack Rou when he's alone, it does like 30 damage at first, but its damage doubles after every usage, just after 4 times its 300, and Rou's health is around 800.

It took me a few tries too, you're at a good level.

Post game is so good, like so, so good.

There were a lot of great story moments but it now slowed down for a bunch of fantastic dungeons, really long, really winding, but fantastic dungeons.

I actually got completely lost once, had to retrack my steps to the entrance to start over, if only there was some sort of second screen with a map always in view.

While the game is technically harder, with stronger enemies, I'm plowing through it, as mentioned before I'm level 70, so I have most skills unlocked, combine skills, with magic and you get incredibly powerful, in fact I can get so darn strong boss battles end typically in 2 or 3 turns, the Hero and Camus alone deal some 4000 to even 7000! points of damage per turn, a party of the Hero, Camus
and Veronica are overkill, I'm rotating the 4th party member, Silvia, Greig and Martina are both equally good.

Its great that so late in the game you keep finding new strategies to deal with the monsters, honestly combat hasn't gotten boring at all.

I'm actually level 78 now, yeah, went 8 levels up in 2 fights, but how can't you when you get experience like this!?

I figure I'm probably close to the end now, unless there's some other plotwist.

That doesn't sound too good. But I guess since I don't grind, I won't be so high level. The exp is crazy though. Man I really wish one of the challenge mode is half exp.

Whenever I play DQ games, I follow a strict "no metals" rule. If I encounter one naturally as I play and I happen to kill it, fair, but I never go looking for them. This keeps my levels lower and boss fights more challenging.

Some people like being overpowered, and that's cool -- that's why the metal enemies exist, after all. I just don't like to see people lament that a game has low difficulty when they clearly spent time achieving that on purpose by grinding metals.
