Dragon Quest 7: Warriors of Eden (3DS/JP) |OT|

Yes, it sucks. But it's not random. Basically, the game REALLY wants Maribel in slot 2. So I just got used to having her there. (._. ) It actually works out fine, because slot 2 is the safest spot in the group for mage characters, and that's what I have her as.

Im so strong as is in the game so it doesnt really matter if she gets hit or not lol. Its not helping too that Im getting all this extra EXP while going out of my mind trying to get a second 鉄の斧 from the
からくり兵
. Already got one which kiefer is using but need another for the main character just because. Though at least its helping lv up Gabo who needs to catch up to my other characters big time.

It just irritates me to no end since I prefer to have all the melee characters input first then finally the caster.

How the hell did this pass QA I have no idea. :/

It's like FF5. Outfits change based on class and weapon changes based on what's equipped.

I'm glad, personally, because I got really tired of looking ridiculous in DQ9 because of the visible armor mismatching.

Do the outfit switches apply to all characters, or just the hero and Maribel?

And I still really wish they didnt do visible enemies on the map. Irritating as hell in dungeons.

Everybody. Even Gabo's wolf in the case of some classes!

I wonder. I heard that they made access to the Monster Park earlier in the game. Where exactly is it? Also, how does that effect Loomin's arc? There were some ties between the Monster Park and that town.

There's a teleporter to it in the immigrant town. It doesn't affect Loomin's story at all, because when you first get there, there's only a book with instructions. The actual guy doesn't show up until you get through Loomin.

later and still no 2nd 鉄の斧... I seriously should quit this. Its gotten so bad that Im strong enough so that everything in the area is starting to run away from me lol

You really should quit it, because you're going to screw yourself over with the class system. Battles don't count toward progressing your classes if you're over a certain level, which is different for each area in the game.

I just want another of those damned axes lol. Then again with all the levels I gained dont think the extra damage will really matter at this point as the boss is going to get his ass steamrolled big time.

Will be interesting to see what happens when I get the class system.

I love how this game with some of the conversations they ask you a question and the only 2 answers you can give is "Yes or No" regardless if its an appropriate answer to what they are asking or not in context.

Just finished the Loomen/Mardiras/Probina section, and now
stupid Maribel is going to leave and take my hustle dance with her
. Sigh!

Well, the good news about this part is
when Maribel leaves, everything she didn't have equipped gets dropped into your bag, which did NOT happen in the original - which meant that you could actually screw up your save file if she had a shard or something.
So that's good.

I really like the lithograph search aspect of this game. Does every Dragon Quest have some sort of unique quirk to how the game is structured? Judging from what little I've seen of the series, 4 seems to have a series of smaller adventures combined into one (I happen to own this game ...), 6 seems to be ... dreams? When people talk about 5 they talk about the monster recruiting ...

5's major narrative focus is the generations. You follow the hero from the moment he is born through his life as he grows up.

Ok I give up with trying to get a 2nd 鉄の斧 just went and steamrolled the 2 bosses instead. Still am sad though that with all that time spent I only got one. Wth is with the drop rates seriously. D:

There seems to be quite a lot of misinformation about this remake floating around on the internet. I'm really surprised. Once it got out that the intro dungeon was removed, there's people saying that all kinds of other areas were taken out, puzzles removed, difficulty dumbed down, etc. There's also misinformation about the class system out there, where people claim that no skills transfer over period, and that monster classes are completely useless, etc.

I don't know why people are latching onto this stuff or where they're even getting it from.

Simple answer,

its the internet.

lol

Thankfully I dont remember too much about the original, so its making the game enjoyable as is besides the small things that I find irritating.

I remember the original very well. It's a very faithful remake. There are some changes, but most of them are pretty small.

I still dont get why they got rid of the random encounters.

Btw so where are all of these complaints you are viewing at anyways? Am guessing it would be the Japanese sites related to the game and such eh?

Nope, English speaking folk, many of whom haven't even played the game and are just reading things. I did see that Jeremy Parish wrote an article voicing disappointment with the intro section being chopped, and I agree with that part, but it really is the only massive change made to this version of the game.

Aeana, I assume you'll be the person whose opinion to trust for when rumors start coming about an American release?

I think there are some captures going around, people seem to be jumping in medias res and get confused about what's going on. I also think a few people seem to have the idea that the type of changes at the beginning recur throughout the whole game. Time'll sort 'em out.

I responded to a post on Dragon's Den where a guy was insistent that no skills carry over between class changes at all, and apparently that one can be attributed to Siliconera. Sigh.

... And nobody was surprised, sadly.

I haven't had a chance to play at all over the past few days, and it's been killing me. >.< Excited to finally get back to it again this week though. Work should be light.

So uh... I guess nobody is playing this anymore? So sad. :( I haven't had a ton of time to play over the last week, but I have made a fair bit of progress regardless.

Personal update: I've finished the Coastal scenario. Coastal looks pretty cool in the remake, although I guess not dramatically different. Just fancier. I've got 52 hours clocked right now, just spent a little while at the casino.

And I am so happy about it! I still don't get how getting a puff-puff from a girl at the casino is supposed to increase your slot machine odds (and it may just be placebo, but it's a commonly-held belief).

At any rate, if nobody's playing anymore, though, I guess I'll just post again whenever I beat it. :\

Has anyone ever dissected the programming to see if the puff puff thing was true? I know I believed in it, but I ever played the slots. I always played the Poker.

Slots are pretty much the way to go for me provided that I've amassed enough coins w/ Poker and I'm using high risk/reward slot machines. The 100 slot machines are so rewarding, especially if you're patient. Poker would be way better if the token limit wasn't so little and getting good hands actually occurred more frequently - hate hate hate the Poker in DQIV DS :\

Nice. Are the casino prices any different this time? Cuz I know you could get the Falcon sword (I think) and now that is a preorder bonus, I'm wondering if they took that out and replaced it with something new etc

It's like in DQV where that NPC points you to a particular slot machine that's supposed to be rewarding but I have had way better luck elsewhere (or is that the joke...)

And gosh I wish I was playing! I HATE the fact that the 3DS is region locked. Stupid Nintendo.

Prices are all the same. The falcon sword at the Coastal casino was renamed to gale sword, but it has the same stats and behavior as it did in the original. The DLC falcon sword is much weaker - lower stats, and only occasionally hits twice. The gale sword still hits twice every time.

Cool. Yeah that sounds fair. Because having the full falcon sword from the beginning would probably have greatly overpowered the Hero. Curious choice to rename it though.

I just reached what would normally be the disc swap point. The whole sequence leading up to that battle, and the way it plays out still gives me goosebumps. And it's really handled so very well in this version. Current time is 55 hours. I spent 2 or so trying to win another big win at the casino, but no avail. (._. ) I don't really need any more coins than I have, regardless, though.

Aeana makes this game sound soo good. :(

Out of curiosity, do they allow you to speed up the text speed in this one? One of the most annoying aspects of this series.

The cool thing about this version is that folks might actually be surprised that it isn't the final battle because there's not a whole disc you haven't touched
.

Doing the bit with the infamous
dancing sequence
, much better this time around! Moving at a fiar pace now. Most impressed that the monsters still look as cute and animate so charmingly, was worried it'd lose something in 3d, though I suppose DQX also had nice monster animation, so...

Aeana

Well, if there's one thing I think Arte Piazza is really good at, it's animation. Their 2D stuff is great, but they already showed they could do nice 3D animation with DQ5 on PS2 as well.

I can't scan the thread for the answer as I never finished DQ7 on PS1 so I don't want to be spoiled (for what little story there is), but what's the status of North American release?

If a mod can edit the post in the OP to say the NA status (if it's none, that would be great too)

There isn't anything announced.

And that's that. I'm not ready to delve into the post-game right now, since I have other games I really want to get to, but I have heard some interesting things about it.
About a new dungeon, new ending, and a certain character rejoining
, but I don't know if it's true, or how to get it yet.

As for this remake, I'm very, very pleased with it. Aside from the introductory part, it remained very true to the original in the ways that matter, and changed a few small things to make the presentation better, or to make the plot progression make more sense. I really feel that DQ7 got the attention it deserved, and the only way I think I could have been happier with it is if it was made in DQ8's style or something.
