Dragon Quest Heroes PC Performance Thread

Eh, decent port for once. Xbox 360 control icons are display, and it's the PS4 version. In fact, I think it pushes graphics options beyond PS4 version.

It's absolutely inexcusable that ports on this engine still, after multiple years and games, are resolution locked.

I often defend developers because gamers sometimes don't fully appreciate the complexities of software development, but this is

absolutely

inexcusable.

No...NO!! Our benevolent lord has angered. We must give him a sacrifice to soothe him!!!

Close but still so far away Koei. =x

I'll wait for a resolution unlock solution. I play at 1440p. = x

Interested in trying this, actually. Is it good?

For the most part, yes. It's an action RPG infused with a tower defense system that gets progressively harder (most people think there's a spike in difficulty, but it's really just forcing you to use defensive measures instead of brute forcing the game). There's quite a bit of depth and party synergy at play and it kind of acts like a DQ game. That is, for better or for worse to be honest. Menus are just as tedious as the other games, with jingles and confirmations that play out EVERY SINGLE TIME, and a refusal to just put things like party switching in simple menus.

If you can get over that shit, and use a bit of attention with the game when it demands (like the quests system and actually looking at where monsters will spawn to complete them), it's pretty fun.

Sold. Will grab a copy then.

And people thought this would be the PS3 port. We're actually serious about that. Still makes me laugh.

Basically every other KT PC port from the last year has been the PS3 version, not the PS4 version, and they've lied about it in official screenshots. So it's not really something to laugh about.

Crashes at startup on my good laptop when my nvidia card is selected irregardless of windows 7 compatibility. It will start if integrated graphics is selected, but yeah, 0 fps. I'm sad now.

Apparently I can't play in full screen. Works in windowed. ÂŻ\_(ツ)_/ÂŻ

Bladestorm and toukiden were both based on the ps4 version.

Most stupid thing about this port, they didn't say anything if PS3 or PS4 version, if they told us this is PS4 version then i might grab with pre order discount...

Not really. DS2 was perfect, and so are pretty much all MT framework Capcom ports. And plenty more.

Outside of the FMV cutscenes which were not re-rendered the Valkyria Chronicles port was pretty solid too. At 1080p at least. orz

Didn't Dark Souls 2 on PC have the 60fps bug that caused armor and weapons to degrade twice as fast? I stopped playing it since I was pissed at how often my stuff broke and how much of a pain it was to do anything.

Some screens as requested. This is stretched to 1440p so if you're at 1080p won't have some of the issues I have. In motion it's not too bad, though things like talking to vendor NPCs makes it super noticeable, and even at medium distance like in that last shot at the camp.

Do you have AA turned off?

Those shots are pretty rough.

That was the largest downside of the port and it was a fairly negligible issue, you would only notice if you spent over an hour away from a bonfire and was quickly mitigated with some repair dust

Out of curiosity, does manually adding AA from external software (Inspector/Catalyst) result in performance hits?

Or does that depend on the type of AA being added?

Yes, any form of anti-aliasing with affect performance. Different types of AA will affect performance differently (FXAA or SMAA is much better performing than MSAA or SSAA)

DX11 as a requirement made me fairly confident that wouldn't be the issue. But their track record made me weary, and more glad than usual to just jump on PS4 at $20.

I've heard a lot of good things about SSAA, especially since my gpu can do 4x SSAA in emulators.

Though I'll likely have to cap it at 30fps to get a steady frame rate with modern games like DQ:H.

SSAA is one of the most intensive AA techniques. I would recommend using MSAA if performance tanks too hard.

This game is running like hot garbage on my girlfriends gaming laptop - (Win 10 - i7 - 16GB RAM - 970M card). Won't run in full screen / wants to use integrated graphics / settings don't save after you set them / has these bizarre diagonal tears across the screen / asks to be in some Win 7 compatibility mode even though you told to be in the settings. It's fucked.

We love the game (got the PS4 version) and this was one of her Xmas presents. Thanks Square Enix.

Refunding until they fix it.

Well, you're the one whom everyone goes to when something sucks, so I guess you'd know. It feels like when one comes out and it doesn't have some major issue, it's a break from the norm, not the other way around.

Well, this one seems to be good for once: Based on the PS4 version, features better settings and for once in a KT game... there's the Xbox 360 button prompts.

One nice addition (I assume) is that there's an Exit Game button in the menu that closes the game. If you try to quit the game after using the save character, she makes you go through a long load to the title menu and then quitting from there.

So does forcing driver-level AA work alright at least? I kind of want to pick this up on PC as I enjoyed it on PS4 but got very annoyed with the inconsistent framerate.

Well, I guess it depends on whether you only count ports developed internally or also outsourced ones.

Most of the latter are pretty good (e.g. Zestiria), the former really are hit and miss.

Or, as the case might be, miss and miss if you are K-T.

Well, then again and for once, it seems to show improvements on that matter. If it wasn't for locked resolution and framerate, it would be a pretty good port.

Thing is, is DQ Heroes a better PC port than Fallout 4, Just Cause 3 or Arkham Knight?

Depends. On the technical side, it seems to be a lot more stable. On the option side, it's lacking framerate and resolution options.

Isn't Fallout 4 above 60 fps really buggy? I recall watching a friend's stream where he ran it unlocked and the game just freaked out when he tried to unlock things.

Fallout 4's environments contain a hell of a lot more objects. Dragon Quest Heroes' geometry is really basic looking.

Hmm this is disheartening to hear about the options. I will withhold purchase until someone mods a fix for it. Also did SE or K-T explain why they even have a 20FPS option?

I can't seem to keep a locked 60fps on a i7-4810Q / 860m. Even on low. Bummer, I do most of my gaming on my notebook. dips into the 30s.

If I was still using my laptop to play games, I would honestly lock it to 20 to maintain consistency, I mean I played Dark Souls 2 just fine under similar conditions.
