DriveClub revisited: is dynamic weather a game-changer?

How have they fitted in the weather details? Are they retro fitted to single player events? Online? Or in created events? Also does the AI adjust to the conditions? Lap times etc?

Different types of weather have been implemented in games before. So, it's not really a game changer. It's more of a hassle to play now than ever since you can't turn off the 'rain droplets on camera' effect.

Because it's better than a locked framerate?

In a racing game I prefer a locked framerate, especially one as stable as DC's.

Name me one game that has this type of dynamic weather?
And if you would be able to turn off those raindrops on the camera, people with cockpit/dashcam view would be in a disadvantage...

Sometimes I wonder if people read articles before posting.

Yes games have had weather before Driveclub. Wow.

Driving in cockpit view already reduces visibility compared to third person view, so they've already chosen to put themselves at a disadvantage from a visibility perspective. It's a trade off. Allowing people to turn off water droplets on the screen won't affect the competitive nature at all. If anything it's an undue annoyance for people who enjoy a third person perspective.

Best weather I've seen in a game. I've been trying to perfect my drifting all night.

Thread went to shit last few pages with console defenders/DC bashers as usual meh.

I don't find it an annoyance at all, in fact, I like it.

Weather and challenges working is a game changer, it's got that one more turn addictive quality, the mid race mini challenges ditto.

Freaking incredible game. Love it

hoping for a handling fix

Handling fix? what's wrong with the handling? I've been playing the game since launch and IMO it's the one saving grace of DC before all the updates landed. Each car handled differently so it's just a matter of practicing and adjusting to each car's handling.

You really think that's some far out scenario? Some myopic people here. My son shares residence between his mom and I. We have an Xbox One at my house, he uses the gamertag I created something like 12 years ago. He buys games, I buy games, and I have no concern over what happens with them.

I could easily see my son describing a similar scenario - saying my dad has a Xbone and he uses my Live account but he bought a game and traded it in.

The "logic" being used is really naive.

This is just my opinion! Respect it!

I've been playing Forza Horizon 2 and for me, it plays a lot better, with a much more dense gameplay but I know that Driveclub looks much more beautiful.

IMO Driveclub is visually stunning but too much simple and poor in driving. Forza Horizon is almost the opposite. (I still think graphics are great too!)

Whaaaat, i enjoyed and love fh2 but its like my first racing game on standard settings, as a challenge at stock settings drive cub is a way more challenging rewarding gameplay.

I don't call you crazy at all, but as this is a racing game an unlocked framerate to me sounds not good.

GT6 is pretty much unlocked and it's fine, better than a locked 30 for me. I think it helps that it's on the north side of 50 most of the time though on 720p.

I think it is a game changer.

Everything (almost) has been done before but in my modest opinion it's the sum that trumps any previous attempt.

-Unseen before graphics effectively contribute as a game changer, because of the immersion. But not only graphics are spectacular, they are also cleverly implemented.
-Visibility changes dynamically: changes in reflections of the sun, amount of water drops / blur effect, etc all have a dynamic impact on how you perceive the track. Because of this, references have to be adjusted.
-Handling is also affected by the amount of water in the track. It is important to note that wetness of the track increases / decreases progressively.
-Effects are more than cosmetic but less than stupidly obstructive (yes, i've played Hurrungane under heavy snow in the night too).
-Different type of cams also contribute to emphasize the connection to the ground.

As a result of all these, the sense of danger and permanent adjustment makes races / cronos even more vibrant. You have to keep your eyes open. More than ever.

And they achieve all this maintaining its' simcade premise, which i like a lot.

My only gripe with this game is that if Kaz (Kazunori Yamauchi) is watching closely, we can expect GT7 to be delayed one or two more year to its' (unknown) release date.

There is no disadvantage here.
You might get reduced visibility, but you get closer to road and feel the car better, which adds up in improved handling, so it is sort of balanced.

Driveclub is a good game, but weather isnt really a game changer at all. At least it doesn't change the gameplay all that much and I don't really care about graphics, so it's not really a game changer to me. Driveclub was a good game before, this weathwr patch didn't magically make it better unless you care about graphics.

Also what was wrong with the otuer Driveclub topic about weather?

I was trying to hold out until PS+ edition but this weather update is about to push me over the edge.
I was the same, bought the game 10 days ago and never looked back (especially when I'm driving Pagani, every time I look back I crash the car, LoL). But seriously, great game with amazing graphics, go for it!

Before the weather update it was Dryclub :P

I am not very interested in racers and I will just play the plus version, whenever they decide to put it out. But the game looks definitely incredible, and I cannot wait to see what the other Sony's team will able to do working esclusively on this machine...

Doesn't it change visibility and handling? If so that is pretty major gameplay changes especially in a racing game.

Yes it does, but its still the same races once you get used to it. All I'm saying is that this game was great before, I feel like so many are acting like this game wasn't good before this patch or something. The core game is still the same. Its just my opinion though.

Are you serious? So driving in India in clear weather gameplay-wise is almost the same as in stormy rain? Cause I don't think so at all.. the handling is different, the visibility is different, and both impact gameplay?

It does, if nothing else visibility alone (depending on the precipitation) changes how you drive.
Also, I guess this is about DF article hence new thread.

Oh so you have a problem with me laughing at his joke? and your quick to assume what others think and even accusing people of lacking understanding or tolerance. I think you're taking it too seriously, the gaffer he alluded to was called out several times in this very thread, he was even outed as console warrior.

Anyway a quick look at your post history certainly makes sense why you felt offended....

Was at the store screen hovering over the Buy button, hesitated and finally backed out to the dash =p

Will probably try again later, still working my way through Far Cry 4 and GTAV at the moment.

I got used to the weather handling pretty quickly, now I'm waiting for the elements DLC. Also my point in my last post is that it's hard for me to see it as a gamechanger when I considered the game pretty damn great to begin with.

With your last bit I fully agree!

I don't think so!

It makes it look gorgeous but doesn't change the poor driving quality of the game.

Haha, try harder next time !

Driveclub has some of the best controls in an arcade racing game !! It has a learning curve yes but in a good sort of way. Once you get a grip of the physics system, the game becomes a blast to play.

That's amazing! tolerance, offended, yada yada.

My point is multiple people are "calling out" this guy because they can't fathom a scenario where he doesn't own a PS4 or have his own PSN account, yet has actually spent time with a game and traded it in. It happens, believe it or not. I must have overlooked where he was shown to be some console warrior, but it doesn't really matter. Guy said he doesn't like the way it drives but the weather looks great. Big deal.

Now you're wasting time digging through my post history? What do you think you proved? I don't own a PS4 and likely won't. But I dig technology and am, in fact, an engineer, so topics like this interest me. The weather system in Driveclub is cool as hell.

Weather is not retro-fitted to existing tour campaign events, but will be incorporated in upcoming season pass DLC. The next 2 tour packs are coming very soon.

You are free to select weather in single events and weather is also available in online playlists.
