DSi North American Launch Date: April 5th, 2009

They have it in Japan but it took 3 months. Take that as you will.

I chalk that up to development time of the actual game; the translation for a simple game like Solitaire shouldn't take that long (I hope?)

You say that now, then the DSi only games come out...
Well, I have a DS and a PSP-1001.

I wanted to buy the latest of each, but they're both the same price. I figured at like $150 or something, it would be ok, given the $10 credit.

13 seconds in and they're already fibbing up a storm

"check out the larger 3.25 inch screens!" how about comparing them to the 3 inch screens of the lite?

this is scum advertising at its best

That's not what fibbing means. The screens are larger. Besides, a 1/4 of an inch on such a small screen is an improvement.

They were bullshitting about it being the slimest handheld by Nintendo when the Micro was smaller. I would argue the sleekest too, but that is subjective. Not giving the comparison to the original DS screen size was just a scum move.

You're really wound up about a stupid advertisement. Need a hug?

What? I'm not seeing the deception in the statement. You're just looking to start shit.

nah, not me. I just find so well constructed ads like this hilarious. It's slightly above infomercial stuff.

and the internet browser is free with the DSi, right?

Starting up shit would be hating on the DSi. I'm going tomorrow to preorder the thing, I'm not even complaining about the price. Only thing I'm pissed about is that it's not out before Chinatown Wars. What I was doing was talking crap about that hilarious ad.

Free, but optional. I assume so you can save space if you want to. Hopefully there's enough ram that it actually works this time. :lol

ok, cool. I wonder if they will pull a Wii model where they have it free initially, then charge for it.

Seems like a logical assumption. I'll download it to try it out, but I don't really need a portable browser other than my iPhone anyway.

Looking at the trailer, I can't believe how half-assed this all sounds like. It has a bad camera in it, and OMG you can touch the screen with your stylus and the pictures distorts. Whoaaa. Also, you can record up to 18 ten second long audio recordings of your voice. Whoaaa! And now it is 3.25 inches instead of 3 inches per screen. Jesus christ, what innovation!

I'm as big a fan of the DS as the next guy, but I can't be the only one who realizes how weak this whole DSi over DSLite transition is. Especially with the higher price. At least I can understand how the camera and extra memory might benefit future games on the system, but these newly added features of the DS on their own are just stupid. The trailer looked like those stupid infomercials on tv where they exaggerate all the 'amaaaazing' elements of the product they sell, and then it turns out to be a goddamn normal floorcloth.

At this point, the only reason I see to upgrade (unless your previous DS just broke down), is because of the new color.

I can't believe how many times I have to squash this shit, but the camera is not there to be your new digital camera, it's there for use in apps like games and the photo channel. It's there to play with, not to start your photography career. The res is low so games can use it. See: Wario Ware for DSi.

.25 inches is a big difference.

Yes recording your voice isn't that big of a deal, and to be honest its fun to play with for like five seconds, but to say that the buck stops with the included software is totally uninformed. There are things like ugoku memocho that are totally free and are extremely awesome and worth upgrading for. Then you've got stuff on the DSi store like the Art style series and small cheap versions of mother fucking panel de pon, and suujin taisen.

Nintendo so far has been updating the DSi store monthly with good software so far, which is more I can say about the JP Wii Ware store.

Edit: The GBA micro is smaller, but if I recall correctly, it was rather thick. Small and Slim are not the same things.

Agreed, the small improvements in hardware aren't worth the price difference.
DSWare and exclusive DSi games will have to make up for it.

BTW will "Wario Ware: Made in Me" be DSi exclusive? I've asked before and the answer was 'no', but at the time no one knew there would be exclusive retail games.

Nintendo should start showing some Dsi exclusive titles so they can showup the differences between the Ds and Dsi. I mean not all the people sees the Cameras and dsiware as a cool option to upgrade. (Thats not my case, day 1 for me)

Fucking +1 on this, sick of having to explain things to people.

It's exactly as thick as a closed DS Lite, so the DSi will indeed be the slimmest.

The price for the UK model is a joke compared to America (even for a Nintendo console). I'm tempted to get a US model now but will I get screwed over with region lockouts/coding for the download service?

What is the UK price? You do realize that the British Pound is in the toilet, I'm sure.

Also WOWOWOWOW at Amazon preorders selling out already :lol

a serious question for dsi owners who also have the ds-10:

how is the new sound chip affecting the ds-10 sound - any noticeable changes? basically, i'm asking about the sound coloration.

I've just watched a video on the NoE press site, day one for me. :D

Now to decide.. black or white. I already have a black DS lite so I might go for white to match with the Wii. What do you guys think?

*high five*

Now to sell my current DS Lite.

yeah I was just sitting here wondering where I could get the best deal on my Lite, I wonder if Gamestop will have a trade in your Lite for whatever off the purchase of a DSi yadda yadda.

I'm keeping mine so I can play GBA games, I hate how the new one doesn't play them.

Don't have any GBA games so it's not a concern of mine =p

Though I would if I could ever find the GBA Castlevania games in complete packaging without having to take out a loan.

I'll send an angry mail to Nintendo to complain that I can't play METROID or F-ZERO games on the DSi. They'll surely listen and release F-Zero DSi and Metroid Dread... believe.

I am out of the loop on this but there are DSI exclusive games? Our these games DSI ware or we talking about physical carts games. Shit I'm confused.

Not that I have more than 2 GBA games but we've got two DSLs in the house. I'm selling mine now and we'll keep the other one. This way I don't have to wait a month and a half to play DQV or Castlevania OoS

i pre-ordered 2 black DSi from Amazon :)

i'm shocked that the euro version will be released before the American version.

Can anyone (JP DSi owners, I'm looking at you) confirm whether the DSi has any changes to wireless protocol / security support? I remember reading an argument previously about whether this happened at an application/game level, OS level, or hardware level, but I don't remember what came out of it. I'm curious if this will support 802.11g and security beyond WEP (WPA / WPA2 please!).
