Duke's Freshman Porn Star Reveals Herself

I don't think I agree with that though. I mean if someone graduates from SDSU or some state college but then gets into like a Ivy League law school they're not gonna be thinking "damn I wish I had gone somewhere nicer for my bachelors."

You don't think there are any advantages to rubbing shoulders with people and instructors who will provide you with the necessary networking to land a better job?

Hell... I'd go out and say access to movers and shakers is half the battle of getting cushy jobs in the future. You can't beat recommendations from those that got your soon to be bosses where they are today.

Do y'all not read through the thread?

I've posted on 4 separate occasions that the only way she couldn't afford Duke is if her mom and dad didn't want to pay, not that they can't pay

She's doing porn to pay off a law degree? Wow, talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire. She's better off just staying in porn. Shit is so fucked in law nowadays that not even Tier 1 grads are guaranteed jobs.

Most colleges that have high post graduation employment rates tend to push this. Network network network.

That would happen at the Ivy League law school more than it would at the school she's getting her bachelors at in my viewpoint.

Would it be awesome if someone goes to Duke then Harvard Law School? Of course. But if I had to go to like some state school before Harvard Law I'd probably be fine.

Hell, look at Barack Obama. Went to Occidental first, then Columbia, then Harvard and he turned out alright. You don't have to spend every single year of college at the best school just to have a shot.

Ok then. You seem like really determined to either convince everyone that networking isn't that important or that this woman has to be stupid in some way. I don't even know where you're going with all this.

Now another interesting question is whether having this out there would actually hurt her chances at getting into a prestigious law school, assuming that she was actually able to meet all the general requirements as it concerns grades and "normal" extra-curricular activities. Generally, I would think a degree from Duke would carry a lot of weight for something like that. I mean, at the very least, this whole ordeal makes for one very interesting admissions essay and/or interview (I forget how law school applications work).

If the truth ends up being that her parents didn't want to pay as opposed to couldn't, does that really change the story that much? If anything, it makes things more understandable, as it means she would have had to come up with all the money on her own without her parent's help.

He's saying that if you already know you will be going onto a graduate degree, that the majority of your networking will happen when you are doing your graduate degree, at the school where you do your graduate degree. Not at the place where you're doing your undergraduate degree while you do a separate degree.

Why in gods name would you say these things?

Yeah, it's just this. Spending a couple years of your education at a non-prestigious school is not likely to hurt your networking chances at all.

This isn't true at all. There are plenty of undergrad networking opportunities, especially for people looking to do the same trajectory. There are all kinds of clubs, mixers and events.

But that isn't necessarily correct. Just because Barack Obama went to a crap school means nothing. Bill Gates didn't go to college, so no one ever go to college because you do fine without it.

Even if it were true, why is less networking still preferable to more?

Knowing fewer people with fewer prospects doesn't hurt your networking? I feel like you aren't understanding networking. That's why I had to presume what you were trying to say before because what you're arguing goes completely against common sense.

But it's not a make or break situation. If you miss out on this and you still go to one of the greatest post-graduate schools in the world what is stopping you from going to clubs/mixers/events there?

And then what? They tell you: "Hey, check back with us in 3 years when you finish your Master's?"

I'm not sure what Barack Obama or Bill Gates have to do with anything? We're talking about general cases here. I mean, there are Saudi oil billionaires without a day of schooling I'm sure.

Sure, more networking is better than less, all else being equal.
But, all else isn't equal - there is a significantly higher monetary cost.

Dude, not to be a dick, but we aren't talking about anything. I'm not sure why you're answering my questions for someone else. I'm responding to what he said, I didn't read any of what you said and I don't know what you think or feel on the subject so I definitely wasn't addressing it.

Calling women sluts for sleeping around while not doing the same for men is sexist.
But dude porn stars a looked at in the same light. Sometimes a worse light because of the myth(?) they all have to do guy on guy and the way some people view that.

The point is, if you can afford 50k a year then by all means do whatever you like. But if you like, many others, have to make a choice. Then you have to ask yourself, is the chance of networking an extra year or two worth 50k a year? There are no guarantees here, just the possibility of meeting someone who 4+ years down the line will help you land a job when you have a law degree.

In my opinion I don't believe it is. There's a number of different ways to go about this and going to Duke straight out of HS for 4 years and then law school is the most expensive route. You could go to Duke for the last 2 years and cut that cost in half. Are those freshman and sophomore years spent possibly networking worth 100+ thousand dollars?

You meet a lot of people and make a lot of bonds freshman year, so for some people, definitely.

Duke has powerful groups like the Baldwin Scholars. You get into something like that and get through it and you are set for life. Potential to be a millionaire and/or a politician. When going for that ivy league law school you can get a recommendation from powerful people who can tip the balance in your favor.

Matter of fact networking starts from grade school now.

Not sure if this has been brought up already, but has anyone noticed the row of scars on her legs? It looks like they're from self-mutilation. Some are speculating that somebody, possibly her own father, molested her at a young age.

That is the only logical explanation, yes.

I don't see how gagging, puking, and cowering in fear on facial abuse is empowering. Are her interviews bad or is she at least smart and articulate?

This is GAF. Every promiscuous person or sex worker does it because they love sex and there's never a mental issue or past abuse involved. You're either a misogynist or a republican.

In the facial abuse trailer she said she had body image issues.

I approve.

Seriously though, it's her decision. If that is how she wants to handle her own business, so be it. It is not our place to judge.

There can be scenes in porn where women do that and can enjoy a scene of empowerment because they're still in control of the scene. There are scenes with James Deen where he's very rough with them but he comes off showing respect and does it the way the woman clearly wants it and would have a list of do's and don't. Facial abuse on the other hand is notoriously bad for how they treat women. How can you say you're a feminist then be featured on a site that pretty much legally rapes some women on camera? Congrats, you're helping fund scumbags abuse more women! That'll help feminism. A lot aren't just part of the scene either or planned, some of them break down crying and they slap, kick, and spit on them then fuck them while they cry and whimper. It's fucked up. I remember seeing an AMA on reddit by a porn star who was in it and said it was a horrible experience and she regretted doing it.

There is zero basis for anyone to suggest this woman has been abused and is in some way emotionally scarred.

Also, on a related point, many people who are sexually abused as children or young adults grow up to have happy, healthy sex lives.

Participating in facial abuse might be. Those dudes are fucked in the head.

Her reality kings scene is pretty good.

No. It's not. She's pretty much screwed for anything outside porn now. She better hope that leads to a long porn career.
That's not even remotely true. At the very least, she'll get a book deal and a cushy job in editorials at some left-leaning news media outlet. This is a big country, there'll be people interested in hiring a smart, radically progressive woman.

She could've went to a cheaper university and got a non porn star job?
I've seen this oft-repeated in this thread. It's ridiculous how few people fully appreciate both the monetary and personal worth of going to an elite university. It literally pays for itself after a few years out of undergrad if you play your cards correctly. People go to schools like Duke for a reason. Settling for a "cheaper university" isn't an adequate alternative.

She's well spoken for an 18 year old and seems to be in porn for the right reasons...in her mind at least. I'm not sure I'm buying the "empowering" angle. Try playing the facial abuse scene she stars in while simultaneously playing this interview in another window. I support her decision, but I think it was a financial decision more than anything as she originally stated in the interview from the OP.
