Duke's Freshman Porn Star Reveals Herself

Would you really call people in porn "actors"? they are performers at best, lets be honest here. Their acting is pretty much abysmal.

While their scripted acting is generally atrocious, you'd be surprised at how well some of them can role-play (i.e. inhabit characters and play out a scenario, sans-script). Especially a scenario as simple as you're helpless and he's a big bad meanie.

She's well spoken for an 18 year old and seems to be in porn for the right reasons...in her mind at least. I'm not sure I'm buying the "empowering" angle. Try playing the facial abuse scene she stars in while simultaneously playing this interview in another window. I support her decision, but I think it was a financial decision more than anything as she originally stated in the interview from the OP.

Lol totally doing this later.

I think he's the other Duke student/FA subscriber who recognized her and revealed her real name (before she tried to get out in front of it by revealing it herself).

Thinking about this now, I'm wondering just how bad outing a porn star's real name is. On the one hand, I think it's obviously a mean thing to do considering she took steps to conceal it in the first place, but on the other hand I don't think it's as bad as outing a gay person for example. Maybe they're equally bad? I don't know.

I hope nobody outs James Franco at NYU. That's so unfair. Actors, appearing in films, which they were paid for, getting recognised in public for their publicly available performances.

I don't think I agree with that though. I mean if someone graduates from SDSU or some state college but then gets into like a Ivy League law school they're not gonna be thinking "damn I wish I had gone somewhere nicer for my bachelors."

But it is harder to get into an Ivy League law school if you go to a state school; and I'm not talking about the prestige alone, but the opportunities, people, and experiences you have at better schools can definitely increase your chances.

I just hope she made enough so that she can afford to replace that pair of gray sweatpants.

Except she was using a stage name, and I assume he's effectively outed her real name (in addition to her 'real' stage name), no? Yeah, it's publicly available and she got paid, but she's not exactly holding out her actual name and identity for the public. It's just not a very nice thing to do.

Luckily my porn name, "Alan Smithee", is much harder to track.

If someone sees you in a porn, bam they know it's you. It was foolish of her to think it would ever be a secret.

I just walked upon a viral video that sort mixes the two using personal quotes used in the news reports vs the facial abuse scene footage.

My reaction to her 'empowerment';

The only way a person could arrive at the conclusion that her job or behavior is not empowering is by evaluating sex or sex-related behavior with different criteria than those used to evaluate other prejudice-free behaviors. And that is a very puritanical perspective on reality.

The truth is: she's doing what she's doing of her own free will, because she wants to and because she likes it. All that, in the face of a large number of people who berate her for it. Thus, what she's doing is empowering.

Porn is usually just sex, and if the girl is into it I understand this view. But sometimes it's more like abuse, and at some level you have to be kind of broken to allow yourself to be treated this way for public consumption.

Women don't need to be broken to enjoy submissive roles, just as men don't need to be rapists to enjoy dominant ones.

The thing about our opinion about how she feels is it doesn't matter.

That's her call, we don't have to "buy it" for it to be true.

She's getting thousands of dollars for getting semen on her face while millions of dudes are watching and can't look away; I'd say she's the one in power even if the porn doesn't show that in its context.

The dudes watching her are probably heavy in debt while she's paying college while having sex. I'd say she's the one winning.

I recently saw her performances (plural) and she is really into it... I don't get the impression she's coerced or being forced into it, so if she's got no problem with it then good for her.

The Duke porn star has revealed her stage name, Belle Knox, in xoJane and Playboy. She told Playboy that since her name is already out there, she “might as well capitalize on that fact.” Remember, Knox is not just in it to illuminate the sexist double standard of slut-shaming — she’s also here to get paid. “If Duke had given me the proper financial resources, I wouldn’t have done porn,” she said. “My story is a testament to how fucking expensive school is." If you can watch Knox's work and respect her at the same time (a challenge for some of her online critics) consider it a sex-positive libertarian feminist scholarship fund.

Yeah, okay then. That makes sense.

There's also the fact that she's the object of affection (for lack of a better term) for all those guys beating it to her.

Of course, because only struggling losers watch porn.

Pretty stupid IMHO to pay all that money for the "connections" and networking of a prestigious school when no one is going to give you the time of day after all this is public.

Not saying its right, but that is the reality.

Oh I'm sure that someone will give her the time of day after all this. She'll have some shit to put up with, but I'm really confident she'll get the job she's looking for.

While I don't judge her for doing porn I must ask you: Do you know what "Facial Abuse" actually is? It's borderline battery material in my eyes. Do they even make vaginal penetration in those movies? Judging by the preview material on their website, it looks like very hateful pornography. Guys enjoying this kind of material are not interested in sexuality, they are interested in seeing women suffer. Sadism is a thing, you know.

That doesn't negate that she's the one getting thousands of money for having sex (which to me is kind of empowering).

If a man could make millions of women masturbating by just having sex on camera, wouldn't you consider that man to think of himself as empowered?

I know what Facial Abuse is. Point is, that the viewers are slaves to her in those films, while she's the one getting tons of money.

We only see one side of it. Behind the scenes it's not exactly the misogynistic and hateful rape-dungeon we imagine. They sign contracts and meet nice people, do their job and then get a nice paycheck.

I'd bet there are tons more soul-crushing experiences in more common jobs.

When I was young I did all sorts of jobs from cleaning toilets, working at a call center, working as a waiter etc. But the kind of stuff they are doing to those girls isn't anywhere near the level of soul-crushing experiences that you are getting from your regular job. It's pure physical pain.

Somebody that is enjoying sticking his dick down the throat of a women until she vomits all over her own face is a sadist in my eyes. It has nothing to do with some submissive/ dominant role play, it's about living out some sadistic hate against women in a controlled environment to keeping it legal. I'm sorry, but I won't put on those rose tinted glasses on my nose.

That stuff is nothing, really. It's not uncommon for girls to like it rough.

Pff. If she does, I bet it'll turn to shit when her coworkers realize who she is.

Mark that.

And those co-workers should be shitcanned if they can't deal with the fact that someone they worked with took a facial. I understand reality, and the shit she'll put up with, but she shouldn't, and there are places that employ people that don't give a damn about it.

in the movie she gets slapped around, choked (by hand and other), verbally demeaned by both the other actor and director,questioned/dismissed of her values and feminist views and I didnt see the full full video of it ( just snippets) but usually in the videos they are straight up spit on as well. It's totally submissive and possibly sadist by nature and by what it's offering. I don't think they're getting a "ton" of money for movies anyway especially being newcomers so i dont know what this thread is really talking about.

as far as her doing movies.. more power to her. I have no judgement here. Just wanted to clear up what guys are talking about in power positions when this type of porn is created specifically for guys who like to see women demeaned. Its not just "taking a facial" she was straight up treated like a dog and like an idiot in the videos.

I asked a friend of mine whether she agreed with the Feminism 2.0 view that pornography is degrading to women and results in them being objectified more in society, or the Feminism 3.0 view that porn is empowering for women.

Her first opinion was that porn is empowering for women.

Then I described the first Belle Knox video (the one that's really hard to find online now, there's plenty of tamer more recent stuff of her out there but the original abuse video is scarce and pretty much underground), and about how she is hit hard on the face, is crying, and so on. Then my friend expressed that her (much younger) teenage brother watches a lot of this stuff and that she feels he has very twisted ideas as to what most women like and that this porn is warping his views and expectations on sexuality and it concerns her.

First world problems I guess.

Me personally, I think porn can empower women absolutely but just like any other type of entertainment the stuff that's most popular or gets highlighted the most is usually a misrepresentation of what real women are like. The ultra-violent stuff, the demeaning stuff, the big fake tits and ass implants. It's a tricky subject when you get into the niche porn territory.

And? BDSM is pretty common. I'm not sure why you're demonizing consenting sadism.
