E3 Press Conference Grading Thread

Who had your favorite E3 press conference?

Bethesda: 8/10
Good opening with the Doom demonstration and Dishonored 2 was great but the Fallout presentation was lacking in regards to combat.

Microsoft: 7/10
A pretty standard conference. Lots of games were shown but it was brought down by absolutely awful gameplay demonstrations. Halo was made to look like a CoD campaign, Tomb Raider was a snore fest and the Gears 4 reveal was done poorly.

EA: 3/10
I stopped watching this because it was absolutely awful. Thank god the Battlefront gameplay leaked early.

Ubisoft: 6/10
Decent reveals and demonstrations brought down by the host and "fake game talk" during the gameplay demonstrations.

Sony: 20/10
Greatest conference I've ever seen. TLG, FF7:R and Shenmue 3 were massive megatons. Horizon trailer into gameplay was fantastic and a demonstration that MS should take note of. Dreams was an interesting concept. UC4 demo was fantastic.

Square Enix: 10/10
Nier 2. Enough said.

Edit: Forgot someone:

Nintendo: 1/10
Sold my Wii U after the direct. Did not care for a single title shown.

Square - Great, they had megatons.
EA - Good, Battlefront
Sony - Awesome+, this conference was legendary, it had so many megatons
MS - Good, they tried their best and put in great games
Nintendo - Bad, wtf did they think after last year's showing?

Those poll results, cotdamn. Just goes to show what a insane conference Sony pulled off yesterday.
Greatest conference of all time, nothing really compares to it. As poeple have mentioned earlier; It really was The Fan-fiction conference. Crazy.

Also, to all the people complaining about Sony showing games for 2016/2017, if we were to check your post history around E3 last year, would those opinions be consistent? How many of those same people would be complaining about Microsoft showing CG-trailers with no gameplay for Scalebound, Crackdown and Phantom Dust? All of which have no release dates, and didn't even show up at this years E3 to boot. Because as I remember it, those were the titles that put MS up as the best conference last year according to a lot of people.
#cementthegoalposts

The games shown off at E3 2015 should be for 2016/2017 while E3 2014 should show off games for 2015/2016. If there's enough to show off a good amount of representative gameplay then it's good for me. CG trailers are bleh but I can't really fault the FF7 one because it was the final checkmark off a "wildest E3 dreams" checklist.

Sony 8/10:
+Lots of megaton announcements.
+More new game trailers showed.

Microsoft 7.5/10
+Backwards compatibility is a good move.
+Games shown were decent but I wasn't blown away.

Nintendo 5.5/10
- New Metroid and Animal Crossing titles were terrible.
- Wasted time with the 30th Anniversary musical bit.
+Few decent titles announced in the mix which is why the score isn't really low.

Bethesda: B; DOOM looks fresh, Dishonored 2 should be great, and Fallout 4 really blew me away.

Microsoft: B+; their strongest show in YEARS. Almost no Kinect or business talk. Lots of games and more games, even if there were few surprises (Recore got my interest though). The best stuff was BC and Rare collection... enjoying games from my PAST instead of being more hyped for the future content.

EA: D+; the games may be good, but somehow they made Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, and Star Wars boring to talk about. Wanted to see gameplay of the former two as well. What a snoozefest.

Ubisoft: B-; solid titles, especially if you're a Tom Clancy fan... but I was hoping for the elusive Beyond Good & Evil 2 or Prince of Persia to pop in and break up all that shooter-y action. Didn't see anything like Rayman, Child of Light, or Valiant Hearts either.

Sony: A+; this one is one for the record books. The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 7 remake, Shenmue III were all pipe-dreams and foolish hope. Any ONE of those might have made it the best show... but then games like Dreams, Uncharted 4, and Horizon just bowled me over.

Nintendo: C-; this was an off year... and yet somehow a new Metroid, Zelda, and Mario title can't change the fact that those new games are merely small-scale spin-offs, and Star Fox looks cool, but the rest of the Wii U lineup was anemic. You can see the end of the console's life fast approaching.

Square-Enix: B+; Kingdom Hearts, FInal Fantasy, Nier, Tomb Raider, Hitman, Deus Ex, Star Ocean, unannounced projects. This is the best lineup Square has had in YEARS, and they didn't even talk about Bravely Second, Dragon Quest, or Heavensward much at all.

For me Sony just edged it ahead of Microsoft
Sony had the games Microsoft had the features.
Sony 8/10
Blistering start with TLG and jaw dropping horizon but minus 2 points for not having rocket league take up an hour and let's not forget dreams
Microsoft 7 /10
There was a few bombs at Microsoft conference too with backwards compatiblity ea access preview programme were all cool I thought so that's 1 point and another 6 for debuting 2016 GOTY dark souls 3

Ubisoft,I just wanted to bang the host 👍

Sony---A

Stuff of legends. It's like that ridiculous E3 you always imagined in your head as a kid actually happening.

Square-Enix---B

JRPGs are back. So many games I'm looking forward to.

Microsoft---C

Halo/Gears/Fable/Forza. Sure was a Microsoft conference. Safe and boring, no megatons at all.

Nintendo---D

Yeah. I'm sure there will be stuff to show next year, with a new platform.

I don't what to say. There are tons of contents in the conference not related to these titles and people still claim only Halo/Gears/Fable/Forza.

This is unbelievable.

Fable Legend: only a very short trailer (The graphic is beautiful)
Forza 6: Showed Ford GT and a very short trailer. (The game will be fantastic.)
Halo 5: At the beginning, i bet less than 5 minutes;
Gear 4: At the end. Well, I admit the demo was not well played. But the game is still in the early stage.

And don't forget they pulled 3 big titles to GC in August.

Very solid conference. It deserve at least 8.

The only complaint from me is the lack of Japanese publishers/supports.

For the games announced at MS conference, I think Recore, Ashen, beyond eyes, Cuphead really deserve people's attention. They will be great.

For Rare new ip, we need to give it a chance. From the trailer, i think it will be a fantastic game.

I watched all the conferences but I'm only going to be grading the big three here.

Microsoft: B-
I thought the pacing of this presentation was pretty solid. Other than spending time for a couple announcements like early access, and their new controller, it was pretty much game after game after game. There were a couple of cool new announcements but for the most part we saw a lot of things we knew about already which isn't a bad thing. Would have loved to see Phantom Dust there and I think their decision to hold off on showing Crackdown, Quantum Break, and Scalebound was kind of lame.

Sony: A
Sony had by far the BIGGEST announcements this year. It's great to see the Last Guardian finally back and the Shenmue III announcement is basically a Half-Life 3 level announcement. Totally unexpected. Just like Microsoft it was game after game after game, and they spent very little time with filler. Horizon looks fantastic, Dreams looks.... weird, and No Man's Sky still looks crazy. The problem I have with Sony is that their first party output is pretty much non-existent this year, with the exception of Tearaway Unfolded and a couple remasters, they have nothing. It's a bit disappointing they are relying on third-parties for this year but hopefully they can make it up next year. Overall a wonderful showing.

Nintendo: C+
I think the hyperbole surrounding Nintendo's show this year is ridiculous. It was fine. Not their best showing, not their worst at all. Starfox looks like the Starfox game everyone wants, we got some cool new announcements for the 3DS and Wii U in Zelda and Mario Tennis, Super Mario Maker looks amazing, and the show in general just had a lot of charm with the puppets. It was nice to see a company focusing on games we will actually be playing this year rather than 2016 (Nintendo's publishing 8 Wii U games to be released before year's end). With the way they distribute information with Nintendo Direct's, it makes sense. Unfortunately we are not always going to get E3 2014 level presentations but this was definitely not terrible. Definitely think not showing Zelda Wii U was a mistake though.

Metroid is my favorite franchise of all time and while I was initially very disappointed they slapped the Metroid name onto Federation Force, I also don't think it's a replacement for a true Metroid game. People were spoiled by the quick turnaround with the Prime series. They seem to forget it took 8 years after Super Metroid before we saw another game in the franchise. Not to mention, Federation Force looks like it could be pretty fun. I'm keeping an open mind.

Bethesda: A
DOOM gameplay was fantastic and better than I expected, Fallout 4 was Fallout 4, Dishonored 2 was a nice announcement

Microsoft: A
Backwards compatibility was a huge surprise and awesome. Loved the indie devs/games shown, Game Preview has my interest, PC Mods for Fallout 4 is awesome, Fallout 3 with Fallout 4 is a nice addon, exclusives have my interest, Halo 4 Warzone looks like a blast, Gears caught my eye for the first time since the first game.

PC: Did not see

Square Enix: B
Deus Ex looks brilliant, wish more was shown. Hitman looks like a great new chapter, Tomb Raider Go is cool love Hitman Go. Just Cause 3 is getting closer to a "Month One Buy".

Sony: B-
Horizon surprised me, looks fantastic but I am cautious because the Killzone franchise has always been shaky for me. Uncharted 4 looked brilliant, Day one buy. PS Vue is very interesting need to look into it more, Firewatch looks cool. Battlefront looks amazing. Nothing else interested me at all.

Ubisoft: C
Started off amazing, but then nothing really blew me away...

EA: D-
Just bad.

Nintendo: Did not see

Bethesda - B. Mostly for wonderful Fallout presentation, rest was C grade
Ubisoft - B. More consistently good than Bethesda with only a few hiccups like the Just Dance performance and the ricketts bit.
Sony - B+. BIG announcements. would've been A without TV shit and like 10 minutes of Disney
Nintendo - D. D for disappointment.

Didn't watch MS, heard it wasn't bad.

Unless I'm misremembering, the 'TV shit' took all of two minutes.

More importantly, it was about a la carte service ... which has never been done (at least in the US)) and is easily argued as one the most important changes to television here since the rollout of cable.

Microsoft: A
They had a solid showing and alot of games that I found myself wanting to know more about. When the Xbox One was announced, I really didn't have a reason to buy it, but that story is quickly changing, thanks to this conference. Next year looks good.

Sony: B-
Sure, they had a lot of goodwill announcements, but I'm judging these on my personal satisfaction. Horizon and Uncharted were the standouts for me, but the Black Ops III portion quite lagged and killed any interest I had in the game. I actually cancelled my pre-order after that. I wished they would have spent a bit more time on Morpheus. I mean, they had a 2 hour show.

Nintendo: C+
There big issue was that they have all of these directs throughout the year, it kind of makes it pointless to hype a dedicated E3 event, when a Nintendo fan will tell you that their big guns can come out anytime. This year they focused on the 3DS, which throughout the year seemed to have very little support. The games themselves left a bad first impression, but the Treehouse live content changed my mind. There were some issues with the presentation of their games, which made the presentation drag. Worst conference ever? No, but I could see it being very dull for non-3DS gamers.

Ubisoft: B-
I really liked a lot of what they showed! Assassin's Creed is great, but it was the other stuff that caught my eye. I liked what I saw from Ghost Recon, especially. The Jason Derulo stuff was a bit much, though.

EA: D
They some good stuff, but they really bogged it down with the mobile games and interviews. Nintendo had it right when they said E3 wasn't the place for mobile games, and EA should take note. Battlefront looked nice, so did Unraveled.

Sony: A+ (Could have only been better if there was Vita focus. Come on Sony! Try!)

Microsoft: B (Solid games, and HoloLens being this year's Kinect didn't take too much away from their time. No earth shattering announcements though.)

Ubisoft: B- (It was funny and entertaining, but I think I want many of their games less now.)

Microsoft - B

Their best conference in years. Overshadowed by Sony but nothing they could do about that. BC, mods and early access are all good features. MS needs to continue investing in new IPs from here on out. They desperately need to find their next big hit. That said, Xbox owners will have plenty of games to play between August and December.

Sony - A

Time will tell but this might go down as their best conference to date. TLG, FF7R, Shenmue 3 and Horizon were all home runs. The rest of the conference was solid. It is worth noting that Sony is killing it with the marketing deals.

Nintendo - F

When is NX coming out?

Just quoted this to save time as these mirror my own thoughts. Ill add that I agree with Microsoft having an amazing conference. From the 30 Rare game collection for 30, GoW 4 and Ultimate (and the beta), Halo 5, Tomb Raider, Sea of Pirates, the Hololens and the new controller, and of course the backwards compatibility among others... it was ROCK solid.

But then Sony came through like a ****ing hurricane. Doesn't change the fact that MS had a GREAT conference, IMO.

Then there's Nintendo.... I just dont know. A new console? This seems ill-timed as a Wii U owner who feels like that systems is just now getting some play, from me at least. (Thanks Splatoon!)

But overall - dem games! For Honor is my shit! Can't wait for that. My biggest thrill of the conference as I had no idea of its existence. I actually thought the new Ghost Recon looked amazing. Sea of Pirates I'd like more info on, but the potential looks insane. Horizon: Zero Down looks absolutely wonderful. Recore looks very interesting as well.

Then you throw in Dishonored 2, Fallout 4, rebooted Hitman, The FRICKIN Last Guardian, Star Wars Battlefront, Shenmue 3, Rainbow 6 Siege, Halo 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Gears 4 and Gears Ultimate, Persona 5, Just Cause 3, Need for Speed (I like it!), Uncharted 4, and last, but certainly not least, Dark Souls 3.

And Im probably missing a few. I can't recall any E3 where I look back and see so many games that I really want as I do this year.

Im glad I get my Rocket League next month! Haha

I'm not grading Microsoft and Sony this year because I just didn't care.

Nintendo 10/10 because I liked the meltdown and it actually was a surprise because it was so hilariously bad. Puppets were awesome.

Square Enix had it all. Final Fantasy VII Remake, translator-san, funny hosts, new IP announcement, endless trolling by Hashimoto and, though not as exciting as I expected it to be, Kingdom Hearts 3.

Square Enix VII/10.

E3 Press Conference's are what the future hold for your fans and if you don't do a good job well.

overall I think E3 was a solid A this year, and would have been and A+ if Nintendo had done better.

As far as individual conferences go, I only watched the big 3 & Bethesda's.

So...objectively I say

Bethesdas: A+
Microsoft's: A-
Sony's: A
Nintendo: D

Subjectively though

Bethesdas: A+ (loved fallout & Doom showing)
Microsoft's: A- (loved sea of thievs, & BC announce. Halo and TR look fun, and Mods for F4 is awesome!)
Sony's: B (Horizon and UC 4 looked stunning! But I am not a FF fan, was not overly impressed with TLG, or the S3 kickstarter. Dreams looked interesting, and glad they had lot less TV/ services talk than last year)
Nintendo: F (nothing except start Fox excited me one bit. Animal Crossing was a disappointment for me too, and was just....hopeing for more....I did at least like the puppets)

Microsoft- B-B+: BC was great. Controller is cool. Liked the indies. I really think at least scalebound should've been there as a closer. Gears 4 was cool but not hype enough to close a show

EA: C- pretty bad show. Poorly paced. Too much pele. Battlefront is cool but I wanted a deeper dive

Ubisoft: A. I'll start by saying that the host was meh to me and the singing section was horrible. But Ubisoft imo brought the best games out of anybody. South Park, ghost recon, for honor, division, Trackmania. Their games line up makes up for the other crap

Nintendo: C. I feel that these mini directs they've been doing could've helped this direct a lot.

Bethesda: B+. Fallout 4 is great. I don't care much for Doom. CGI dishonored trailer

PC: F

Sony: N/A. I can't score this conference because I don't care one bit about FF7 or shenmue. So this has no effect on me where as other people may be happy. Horizon looks great but I'm not sold in Guerilla. UC4 is UC4. Talk should've been out years ago and it still looks like a PS3 game.

SE: B. I guess for just sheer content they get a B. Like Sony though. The jrpgs mean nothing to me

Bethesda- 7.5/10, Fallout 4 looked amazing and I was very happy to see D2, the pacing was very good and entertaining also.

Microsoft- 7/10, pretty solid but Gears reveal was bad, TR looked amazing visually but not so hot gameplay wise, Rare's game looked very nice artistically but it's an MMO, not my type of thing, Halo is Halo, Backward playback was the true megaton here. overall not bad.

Nintendo- 0/10, Yea i didn't find any redeeming value in this, was the most boring and probably worst press conference I've ever seen in E3.

EA- 6.5/10, SW:BF looked incredible, Unraveled was great as well, other than that it was pretty boring with hardly any pure gameplay.

Square- 7/10, It could have been a 9 if it was more entertaining, cause Square's western+Jap lineup is one of the best but they didn't tap their line up potential into a good enough show.
the pacing was horrible, no live gameplay of anything, lots of boring talking, at least we got KH3 and a new Nier announcement.

Ubi- 6/10, Good pacing and show, Aisha was great, pretty bad content wise besides maybe For Honor which was pretty surprising coming out of Ubi.

Sony- 10/10, Best of all time, no need to elaborate too much.

lol

You've clearny no idea of anything do you?

Clearly. Clearly have no idea how you using the e3 platform to ask for money to develop a game that Sony should fund themselves is a good direction for the Industry to go. And I'll play TLG, but that game looks so last gen man. Oh, and ZERO exclusives this holiday while MS showed 4 and BC. Right, I clearly have no idea. Forgive me for not having the hive mind.

Sony shoot themselves in the foot with this conference there is no way in hell they are going top it again this conference was AAA its down hell from now on, their only chance is Crash Bandicoot and maybe Onimusha + Silent Hell + new DQ + Agent (?)

Sony brought the thunder. For me, their intent was clear from the start - they showed TLG as the very first thing of the press conference. The rest of the new announcements were cool as well anyhow. And then they closed up with a real time demo of UC4. Emphasis on real time here: their controller crapped out but this means that there was a real person playing this entire amazing sequence.

So Sony got my vote.

As for the rest, I'd say that Ubisoft gets the guilty pleasure trophy from me. They opened with South Park, which is an amazing game and concept. And then they went on to have a new Ghost Recon and something called For Honor. All in all, a very cool press conference outside the meme-shaming and obnoxious dancing game section.

I don't think I will change your mind so I won't try.

Seemingly there's 11 die-hard Pele fans who voted for EA.

Bethesda: B+ - Great showing of Doom and Fallout 4. Can't wait for both. Lose some marks for doing that annoying thing where a sequel is given the original game's name. Although this was definitely a trend for the rest of E3.

Microsoft: C+ - Backwards compatibility, Rare doing something interesting, a great showing of Hololens, Recore looks brilliant. Lots of safe showings of MS franchises I'm not terribly interested in, new Gears looked a bit ehhh but certainly loses marks for worst cliché dialogue.

EA: F- - All sorts of fucking terrible. Caused hemorrhaging.

Ubisoft: D - Aisha great to watch as usual, Rainbow 6 still looks good. Ubi still do entertaining CG trailers. Canned teamspeak and the Usher downgradegate whittle down the good marks.

Sony: A - Announcing three games which have cult dream announcement status. Great showings of UC4 and Horizon. Missed a trick not showing any Bloodborne expansion details, suppose we can expect that over the summer. No showing of Rime either, which was disappointing.

Nintendo: C - Disappointing. Starfox looked brilliant but I'm starting to think they're saving their other megatons for their next console now.

Square Enix: B- - Nier 2 was unexpected and Platinum as well. New Hitman would get me excited but extremely dubious after the last one. Also they've done that thing which pisses me off and "rebooted" it thus irritating archivists forever. The expanding world and limited time contracts.. hmm we'll see. I just want a proper Hitman game. Kingdom Hearts and Deus Ex look wonderful. Definitely excited to see more of those.

Everyone but Nintendo did a great job all around.

Microsoft and Sony both brought their A game this year. They killed it. Uncharted 4 and Horizon looked stellar. Sony lit the roof on fire with TLG, FF VII and Shenmue 3. Dreams came true that night.

However, they really didn't make a compelling argument for those looking to buy a PS4 THIS holiday. The Destiny and CoD exclusive DLC deals are minor in the grand scheme of things. A lot of their show catered to existing PS4 owners and dedicated, hardcore, PlayStation fans.

I felt MS gets the slight edge mainly because they gave prospective buyers great incentive to buy a Xbox One THIS year. Plus I felt their games have more mass market appeal. Sony usually goes for that eclectic, art house approach at times, which can seem odd, ambiguous and confusing. I don't see Dream or No Man's Sky being system sellers basically. Anyway, MS has something big in store each and every month, starting with Gears in August.

Again, both of them did a fantastic job. Sony gets an A while MS gets an A+, only because I'm looking at this from a business and mass market perspective, and not my own.

Nintendo was a train wreck. Besides Star Fox, they didn't show anything new (we already know a ton about Yoshi, Mario Maker and Xenoblade) that would make me buy a Wii U I'd I already didn't own one. This was a huge departure from their fantastic show last year and the brilliant NWC on Sunday. I don't know what else to say. They really... They were just terrible. They get a D...maybe a D+.

Edit

Bethesda did a solid job, especially for their first conference. Everything looked good, but there were no surprises besides the two mobile games. It was pretty predictable, but still good. Doom and Fallout look amazing. Too bad we didn't see any Dishonored 2 game play.

I can't speak for EA, Ubisoft or Square since I didn't see their shows in their entirety.

Hive mind?

You understand Sony is not developing that game right? Its a third party title?

Microsoft - 9/10. Showed games coming out in 2015 and showed gameplay whenever possible. Halo Warzone looks insane. BC, including my digital 360 games and even cloud saves, was huge towards me leaving behind the 360. Had Dark Souls 3, so mega point for showing me the trailer first. Gears 4 looks to be bringing Gears back to the roots, which was my main hope. All around great show. Hololens minecraft blew my mind away.

Sony - 7/10. They had megaton announcements, but Im not exited to play games in 2017 or later, I want 2015, early 2016 games. Not a Shenmue fan or Final Fantasy JRPG fan either, so those are games I was not gonna buy even if released today. Hate random encounters for example. Announcement that a game has been green lit and will start development is not something I would rate higher than showing gameplay. Horizon looked amazing though, will definitely get it. Last Guardian looked like a $20 indie game, dont see myself pay full price for it.

Nintendo - 4/10. Only gets point s from the Nintendo World Championship showing of Mario Maker. Looks great. More amiibo functionallity deducts points for me. New Zelda was exiting, but felt like a Four Swords style game, not exactly what I wanted to see. No Metroid = Nintendo is dead to me. But Yoshi Yarn will be my only Wii U game I want thus far.

EA - 4/10. Seriously. So much wasted time of sports games. But Battlefront looked good. Im worried about them making a ton of content paid dlc though.

Squaresoft - 5/10. Not a JRPG fan. Dont care for KH3. Just Cause looked good. And a new Hitman, glad they didnt bury thr series.

Ubisoft - 8/10. Very solid and upbeat conference. New Ghost Recon is nice to see, but ai though it was Just Cause 3 for a second there. Rainbow Six looks intriguing for esports. Did not like the concert part, so boring whoever that guy was.

PC Gamer - 0/10. Could. Not. Care. Less. (Im not a pc gamer, I mainly play on consoles)

Sony: 8/10 - Horizon and Uncharted are what gets the 8. All the PC/Cross-Platform stuff didn't affect me and doesn't help them with my score. Don't care about TLG and looking forward to games like No Man's Sky, FFVII, Shenmue 3, and most other significant games on PC. I still find it hard to get interested in buying another PS4 after I sold the first one. There just isn't anything there for me in 2015 though...maybe Persona, but I could play it for much cheaper.

Microsoft: 8/10 - Backwards compatibility and Rare Replay get the 8. Wish they had shown more of Forza 6 and Rare's new game. PC cross-platform also doesn't increase the score. Tons of 2015 stuff though, and that's very important.

Nintendo: 7/10 - Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World are 5 of the 7 points. I'm not interested in all the time they put into the 3DS (I understand why though) and want Metroid/Zelda stuff for the Wii U....not their portable system. 1 point is for Star Fox. I hope they add a lot to the game and improve it visually, this is a series that is one of my favorites, and I'd love a current-gen version of Star Fox 64 that blows me away. 1 point is for games that my daughter will enjoy along with me.

Bethesda:B
Thought Doom and Fallout both looked pretty good.

Microsoft: B
Their "greatest lineup in history" really doesn't do anything for me. I don't care for Forza, don't trust 343i, and Tomb Raider didn't show well. Outside of those three I thought it was pretty good. Rare's back, Inafune game, Gears, seeming finally catching up on Indies, Fallout mods make it clear they are finally going to loose up on live, and BC is a nice bonus.

Sony:A
Horizon was the coolest looking thing shown this year + Uncharted and Megatons was pretty awesome. I don't care about COD but getting that exclusive stuff and Battlefront exclusive shit is a big deal.

Nintendo: C
It was terrible. Star Fox looks bad, SMTxFE doesn't look interesting. Super Mario Maker is awesome though

Didn't watch the rest.

Oculus: D.
A dismal failure that managed to unhype me for their VR due to tons of "telling, no show". Microsoft sellout section dragged it down into abyss, and even showing Oculus Touch couldnt save it due to no demo of it being used whatsoever.

Bethesda: B-.
Never really been interested in too much Beths stuff, but can't fault them on a no-nonsense "here are the games" approach.

Microsoft: C.
Indie section was the highlight as ever, but a lot of the rest felt confused if not deliberately misleading (Hololens lies). Too many CGI only trailer promises (after we learned the folly of Phantom Dust's last year), the usual tired "lower car onto stage" bit, HALO/GEARS/FORZA -- just not much really feeling fresh. BC seemed great at time, but may have been an overblown promise too.

EA: C.
Average really. Some drags, but EA gonna sports of course. Disappointed to not see the Burnout with Helicopters game, but Mirrors Edge and Battlefront were the saving throws.

Ubisoft: C-.
Started amazing with Fractured But Whole, then never rose to that height again. No UbiArt game is a crying shame, and Ghost Recon looks like it wants to compete with The Division which makes no sense as a company.

Sony: A+.
Will never be topped. With delays causing a bit of a 2015 gulf in releases, Sony rolled out the checklist and decimated. Morpheus section could have been more involved, but Horizon, Dreams, Uncharted 4 demos wowed while the Holy Trinity of The Last Guardian, FF7 Remake, and SHENMUE 3 reduced me to tears. Oh and best demo of Battlefront too.

Nintendo: D.
The cult of personality smug muppet stuff only works if you're showing why you're the legendary bosses, not abject failures. Mario Maker had a better outing at the NWC, but everything else was a letdown at the actual Direct. This conference would have scraped a passing grade for a third party, but as an actual platform holder it was mind bogglingly sparse. Miyamoto and the software heads must be deposed as they clearly are no longer up to task.

Square Enix: C-.
Confusing, weird, with occasional highs of what you actually want, and then leaving out things bizarrely like FFXV. SE seems in better shape these days, but its still an awkward thing with more limbs than it knows how to operate at times.

PC:
Didnt watch as they mis-advertised it starting at 1AM, not 2AM.

Microsoft: A wholly "by the book" type of conference. Lots of nice things (backwards compatibility, indies taking the spotlight), but very little surprises. Their Hololens stuff got me intrigued and genuinely impressed, but after the Milo demo and the Kinect fiasco I will wait for a hands on before declaring this "the future". Also, I still don't know why the hell they keep insisting into adding a summarization video of the conference as a way to finish it, it is anticlimatic as hell, even if the overall content was OK

Grade: 3 brown-greyish dudebros out of 5

Nintendo: My God, where do I begin with? It is damn clear that the WiiU is dead and buried, and that they are concentrating their resources in the next gen system. The conference pace felt off, as they tried to merge a Nintendo Direct with an E3 showcase, yet it failed as it had the weaknesses of both formats. The whole multi-spinoff minigame strategy is only going to cheapen the value of their IPs, and it was the icing of the shit cake. One of the worst Nintendo conferences in years

Grade: 1 rabid anti-Rosalina rant out of 5

Squarenix: It is incredible how they have been able to steer the ship after the long stretch of horrible years since the non-launch of ffXIII. They have managed to do something that I deemed impossible: To catter to both western and japanese tastes and having franchises that matters to both markets. Outsanding announcements, not only they brought the expected megatons (Kingdom Hearts III, Just Cause) but they also were able to surprise with even more left field daring projects that made the old Square a legendary company (New Nier with Platinum games on board!). Incredible, ginormous stuff, even the cut and dry tone of their executives wasn't able to dampen the enthusiasm

Grade: 5 mobile cellphone game ports of ffVI out of 5

Sony: This is going to be remembered like one of the most legendary Sony conferences ever, sitting along the "299 USD" one. Megaton after megaton after megaton, every single dream game came true: The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3 and of course, freaking Final Fantasy VII remake. Oh, and new games that you even didn't knew that you wanted, like cyborgdinosaurs hunting and that Dreams game. Fuck me sideways, this was incredible, unexpected, magical

Bethesda A-
Had a great conference. I thought Doom looked fun and Fallout is probably my most anticipated game for this year.

Microsoft B-
I didnt watch it live but I followed the announcements on Twitter. Some really cool stuff from them. I would buy the Rare collection if I had a XB1 and gears looks amazing. For the first time I thought wow I might end up picking an XB1 up someday.

EA C
Absolutely cannot wait for Mass Effect. That being said they didnt show much of it and Battlefront was the only other thing I cared about. Im surprised they didnt announce a new Star Wars title. Even just a title and maybe a tiny teaser would have been awesome.

Ubisoft C-
Stoked about South Park. Disappointing that they didn't announce the stick of truth for current gen. Other than that it was probably my least favorite conference.

Sony A
Im not really a team Ico superfan but I will definitely check out The Last Guardian. Same with Shenmue, not terribly excited but will probably check it out. FF VII remake was the announcement of the show for me. Holy shit if they do it right and bring the nostalgia vibes, getting chills just thinking about it.

Nintendo D
Other than Star Fox I was pretty bored by the whole thing. What the hell was that Metroid game they showed? I was also disappointed by the Zelda 3ds game, just give us a sequel to ALBW.

Square Enix B+
I played the first Nier but it really didnt grab me. Ill check the 2nd one out for sure. Tomb Raider looks good, Ill pick it up for PS4 someday. Deus Ex is going to be awesome, I really liked HR. I love JRPG's and for some reason I just cant hate square, seems like they could be turning things around and thats exciting.

I don't own any of the consoles, but I had both days of the conferences off, so I decided to stake out everybody's events to see what they have on offer!

Overall, I thought Sony and Microsoft did a good job showing their content. Each had some really interesting games and didn't weigh themselves down with boring segments! I wouldn't say either one blew me away, but that if you're a platform owner of one or both you have some great games to look forward to! If I had to pick some highlights from each conference I would go with Cup Head, that yarn game, Tomb Raider, Horizon, No Man's Sky, Star Wars Battlefront and Uncharted.

I really like the humour found in the Nintendo digital event, and thought the muppets were a great touch! The content was lackluster for me though, in particular the Star Fox game which I feel isn't worthy of such exposure as it looks really poor. I thought Nintendo's event was the weakest of the big three, but it did have solid presentation so it wasn't terrible.

I thought those outside of the big three did a great job. I loved seeing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at Square. Everyone seemed pretty well rounded this year. Overall, I think it's a great time to be a gamer regardless of which platforms you own.

Microsoft had my favorite conference only because there were more relevant games / updates for me... I have an Xbox One and I'm not really excited by those big three games announced in Sony's show (most interested in Last Guardian, but Shenmue III and FFVII aren't games that I've been clamoring for).

While Microsoft's was my favorite, if I had to throw out my subjectivity, then I'd say Sony's beats it by fan service alone, and Bethesda's was the best overall.

  • Bethesda: A. Bethesda crushed their conference, and I'm giving them an A based on what they are, just a single publisher/developer. One could easily say "but Sony and Microsoft showed dozens of games AND hardware AND tech, and Bethesda only showed 3 major games..." but you have to be fair to what Bethesda, EA, Ubi, and Squenix are... They're not going to unveil their own consoles. Back to my thoughts about their presser: It was well executed, never awkward, and the Fallout stuff surpassed what I thought they would show. Tons of gameplay, several big features that I wouldn't have imagined, and a release date right around the corner. Announcements of Dishonored 2 and Doom are things that interest me as well, and Fallout Shelter was a pleasant surprise that I didn't expect. One of the tightest, most well executed E3 shows I've seen.
  • Microsoft: B. A very solid display of hardware and software. Started very hot with a few announcements that I wasn't expecting: Backwards compatibility, new fancy controller, Fallout 4 PC mods on Xbox One. With BC and the PC mods on Xbox, these were things that I didn't think were possible and so to have them announced at the conference was pretty awesome and had me legit surprised. The focus on games was good, but I don't really care much for Halo 5 or Gears 4. I was very interested in the indie showcase and those are games I'm going to play a lot of, plus they had some fan service for me with extra Fallout footage. The hololens demo is interesting technology and it's neat for fans of Minecraft and tech demos, but it's something I don't believe is realistic and so my bull shit sensors were raised.
  • EA: D-, I play a lot of EA games, I have EA Access, I'm a Madden player, but EA's conference was terrible. Terrible pacing and about 45 minutes of it focused on nothing that interests me... Pele is an incredible athlete, but how can you possibly think it's a good idea to bring him to a videogame show... THe long segment on mobile was horrible and has no place in an E3 press conference. At an investor showcase or a mobile round table or something, sure, but not at an E3 press conference. Nobody watching the press conference cares about free2play mobile gaming or a game focused on Minions. While games like Need for Speed, Mirrors Edge, Fifa, NBA Live, Madden, and obviously, Star Wars Battlefront looked great and promising, each video was preceded by 10 minutes of somebody telling you why you should care about these games are important to the presenter. It's just a ton of bloviating. The only presenter who was decent was the guy for that cute looking game, Unravel (?) and his nervousness made it all the more endearing, and that was fine. Everybody else though, it was useless filler and proof that EA does not know how to do a press conference. Worst of all, at last year's E3, EA revealed a bunch of work-in-progress projects that didn't get any mention... WHere was the extreme racing game they showed the early glimpse of a year ago? Star Wars Battlefront, a game that I wasn't even really into, was what got me to bump this from an F to a D-, because the gameplay demo blew me away.
  • Ubisoft: Didn't watch.
  • Sony: B+. A better conference than Microsoft's and they showcased a good balance of 3rd party games. I don't have this as an A+++ world beater best conference ever because I don't like the Kickstarter model for Shenmue III and think it's a bad way to present a game at your corporate conference by asking fans to finance the game. I think people who are thinking it's fine or thinking this aspect was amazing are doing so because either they're Sony fans or Shenmue fans, but looking at it objectively if, say EA Sports had announced a kickstarter for, say, NFL Blitz (a failed game franchise that was once beloved) or Microsoft had the Rare developers announcing a kickstarter for a Goldeneye reboot (a beloved franchise by a developer that people are desperate to make a new big name game for), then there would be open hostility towards those corporations asking fans to give them $2m for a game that they're eventually going to publish and profit from. I get the desire to want to play these games that gets a fan amped up, but I don't think it justifies the business practice of announcing this at a press conference. I still think that it's incredible to announce Shenmue III and Final Fantasy VII and it made the conference so fun to watch. I'm also very interested in The Last Guardian, as a big fan of Shadow, so that was great. Overall, very solid and the hype machine was amazing and I can see why this would easily be someone's subjective "Favorite" conference if you're a fan of Sony's, Shenmue III, FFVII, or TLG. Objectively, I think it sits below Bethesda's (being mindful that one is a single publisher/developer and Sony is much larger than that), because Bethesda offered surprises, sure things, and fan service.
  • Nintendo: F. Gave nothing. The worst E3 press conference by a major player in videogames in ... 7 or 8 years. I struggle to think of a worse one. It might be fun and games for Nintendo to troll fans, release nothing about new games, make fun of their franchises, and then say "Lol, watch our other shows later, we don't care about E3," but instead, they shouldn't waste people's time. Just don't do a show if you're going to make fun of people who spend money on your products. As a 3DS owner eager to find out about games on the horizon, I was disgusted that I wasted my time with the conference. It's the only segment of E3 I watched were I said "I would rather be working than watching this."
  • Square Enix: Didn't watch
  • PC: C+. A solid first attempt, well executed, but nothing exciting. I didn't really pay attentiont o it though, had it on in the background

Microsoft - They had a great show. They showed all of their mainstay franchises with a big demo of Halo 5 being the personal highlight. I especially like the new Promethean designs and Warzone looks awesome. They unveiled two remasters, Gears and the Rare Replay collection, and two new IP with ReCore and Sea of Thieves. I will definitely give Sea of Thieves a shot but the ReCore trailer didn't do much for me. I don't mind CGI trailers but I want them to give me some sort of idea about how the game will play. ReCore's only told me that there will be swappable cores for these robot companions but no indication of what the gameplay would be like. Gears 4 was way too slow for my liking but I didn't think it was as disappointing as others. Lastly, they had a good indie showcase with my interest being piqued by Cuphead and the Long Dark.

Backward compatibility is huge for me as I have a ton of XBLA games that I want to play again but no 360. I'm hoping that some of them make it onto "the list". The Elite Controller was huge for me and I will be picking one up when they are released. The best thing is that the conference was focused almost entirely on 2015 or 2016. With the exception of Sea of Thieves and an Indie game (we all know those are announced too early), I think we'll be playing these games before 2016 is up.

Overall, I would rate their conference as an A-.

Sony - Sony dropped the bombs this E3, that much it true. However, most of the line up was 2016 and beyond. My jaw hit the floor with the Shenmue 3 announcement, however that game is likely a late 2017 to late 2018 release. The Last Guardian had a great showing and that game will be out pretty quickly. FF7 doesn't do anything for me and there wasn't a release date. Horizon looks incredible. I really like how long the major dino battle took to complete and I can see that it would be a lot of fun to play that game. Uncharted 4 had a great showing as well.

I think of everything they showed, Horizon was my favorite game. Shenmue 3 would have been but that game is so far away that I cannot get excited for it. So I'm really torn regarding the grade. On one hand, they had some huge announcements led by those big three. On the other hand, of those big three announcements, two didn't have release dates. Even still, I have to give them an A.

Nintendo - I got bored and stopped watching. D-.

Bethesda - Fallout 4, Dishonored 2 and Doom make that conference an A for me.

EA - Battlefront looked great. Mass Effect was only a teaser. C

Ubisoft - They showed a couple of new IP that look very interesting but I'm not excited for any of their other games. I didn't like the way they are doing Ghost Recon and I am no longer a fan of Assassin's Creed. C+

Square Enix - I couldn't watch it. N/A.

Has anyone updated this gif yet with what Sony actually did show?

Edit: Not sure why it may not be showing up for some, but you guys know the gif I'm talking about. Link is here: http://i.minus.com/iKrEzh3Bl9oMr.gif

Microsoft: 4/10
It was just... so... lazy. Apart from the backwards compatibility announcement, which surprised me, nothing else got me excited to buy an Xbox One. Their first-party lineup doesn't interest me in the least. The only game I really cared about looked ridiculous (Rise of the Tomb Raider).

Bethesda: 7/10
I don't care about Doom, but apart from that it was a cool conference. Fallout 4 looks amazing (it made me want to give Fallout 3 another shot, which is something).

Sony: 10/10
The Last Guardian made me want to purchase a PlayStation 3, when it was originally announced. Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game of all time. Shenmue is one of my favorite franchises ever and it was partly responsible for my passion for East Asia. You see where this is going, right? Apart from these three tremendous announcements, Horizon looked amazing, Dreams looked intriguing and Uncharted 4 looked awesome. I feel this conference had something for everyone, and it had everything I wanted.

Nintendo: 5/10
Star Fox Zero and Super Mario Maker look pretty cool. The rest of the conference was a huge letdown. The spin-off announcements were borderline offensive, especially Metroid Prime: Federation Force.

Square-Enix: 8/10
It was Square's best showing in years: Hitman, NieR 2, Kingdom Hearts 3, Deus Ex, Star Ocean 5, Project Setsuna... it seems to me they're coming back.

PC: 3/10
I really enjoyed the format and the host. There wasn't a single game I cared about.

These are based on what I remember from the conferences... and my memory is terrible so whatever.

Bethesda: 7/10 - Doom and Fallout had great showings, and the fact that Fallout is this year was a big deal because so much from E3 this year is about next year.

Microsoft: 7/10 - Was mostly decent, super happy to see Rare's announcement, but that backwards compatibility announcement was huge. It was completely unexpected, and started working the same day. My old 360 purchases just started appearing on my Xbox One and worked first time.

EA: 2/10 - I wanted to see Need for Speed, Mirror's Edge and Mass Effect, but they felt so unsubstantial when they turned up. I'm sure each of those games will be great, but what they showed didn't really tell me anything.

Star Wars had a superb showing, and made me go from actively avoiding the entire franchise, to kinda maybe wanting to play Battlefront. The whole sports section was a huge misstep as usual, and makes it seem like EA are just doing a conference for stakeholders.

Ubisoft: 6/10 - Aisha was great again, but I dunno, whatever, it was a Ubi conference and nothing surprised me.

Sony: 9/10 - I don't remember much about this conference aside from the three main announcements, but that shows how significant they were. I spent the next three hours wide awake and couldn't get to sleep until 0630, because that's how big of a deal this was.

I am only subtracting a point because in the back of my mind I was rather concerned about its 2015 lineup. Additionally, the FFVII and Shenmue III reveals were little more than a display of intent. Still, you can't deny the gravity of that press conference, and we will talk about it for years.

Nintendo: 2/10 - Pitiful. I might play Mario and Luigi Paper Jam, but nothing else interested me. Starfox had a poor showing, Mario Maker didn't need one and every time a 3DS game popped up all I could think of was how little Wii U content was shown.

They've moved to NX, and it couldn't have been more obvious without saying as much directly.

Square Enix: 5/10 - Very dry presentation, but held up by having so much great content that made the experience worthwhile.

PC: zzz/10 - I fell asleep after about an hour so I don't really know what happened after they showed that dual GPU HBM card. I remember Gears Ultimate got announced for PC then Phil sat around for a bit looking cool.

Bethesda B Spent way less time on ESO than I feared, Fallout Shelter, and Fallout 4 looks amazing.

Microsoft B- The long Gears demo did not show well, but they have a really good fall lineup

EA: C+ Had they taken out the 4 hour long PvZ segemnt and the still-going Pele segemnt, this might have been an A. Mirror's Edge and Star Wars look amazing, The Hearthstone Arena mode in Madden is a really smart idea, and that FMV in NFS looks SPECIAL.

Ubisoft: C- Not even a moment where the only 2 people on the stage were black women talking to eachother could save this. A music number by an unnamed man, fake dialog between teammates- just the worst stuff you can do in a conference

Sony B+ They dropped megatons, but didn't do a good job hiding the fact that they have literally nothing for this year coming.

Nintendo D I finally understand how people feel when their favorite franchise gets a sequel, but it's only for Mobile. HD Animal Crossing!.... but it's a Mario Party Clone. New Metroid!.... but it's a co-op 3DS game. New Zelda!... but Purple Link died for our sins and it's now only 3 swords. New Mario Sports Game!.... but not Strikers, Baseball, or anything that you would actually want. This probably would have been saved a bit if they hadn't done the big Mario Maker reveal at the World Championships earlier in the week.

Square-Enix: B All of the Eidos games look incredible- Just Cause 3 is probably the Game of the Show, Hitman with daily challenges is a really smart idea, and Laura Croft Go will probably be really good. The Japan stuff was weaker, but the fact that it looks like they are actually trying to make games for consoles still was a strong morale booster.

PC Gamer F 3 hours long, very few announcements. No thank you.

In terms of what I enjoyed most- I actually put Square (NieR Platnium, KH3, SO5, Setsuna) right up there with Sony (TLG, VII R, Shenmue 3, Horizon)

In general though,

Bethesda (B) A solid well paced conference with just the right amount of gameplay trailers and footage, it's just that those IPs don't speak to me.

Microsoft (B) Ironically Halo and Gears were the only ones that I liked but not to any extend that I would run out to get a XB1. Overall like Bethesda a well paced conference.

EA (C) Wow that was painful, it was really awkward with Pele and had way too much sports that I'm not interested in. Very poorly paced. Unravel's developer was the only good thing.

Ubisoft - I didn't watch because I didn't think they had anything. Boy was I wrong when I found out they announced South Park and For Honor.

Sony (S) Those three megatons? That's how you become legend. And really I've gotta so much more enjoyment that I thought watching people's reaction lol. Horizon was my favorite new IP from it's gameplay.

Nintendo (C) Star Fox was kinda cool, I guess.

Square (A) I feel like I'm slowly seeing a return to form... Slowly though. The western side of Square is fine, it's the Japanese side I'm concern with. But still, that Nier Platinum announcement, and gameplay for KH3 and SO5 was great.

Sony had the most WOW moments, so they had the best conference. It was quite focused as opposed to previous years. The TLG re-reveal the Uncharted gameplay really stood out for me.

Microsoft started off really well with the whole BC announcement, but fizzled out a bit with the lackluster Gears reveal. Cuphead looks fantastic!

Nintendo was really boring. The developer segments killed all the momentum and they showed very little that excited me personally (other than, perhaps, Mario Maker).

I caught a bit of the EA conference...that Pele segment was terrible.

Didn't catch any of the other conferences.
