I feel like this year there was a huge quality bump separating 4 conferences from other 4:
Sony, Bethesda, Microsoft, Square Enix
------------------------------------------------------
EA, Ubisoft, PC Gaming, Nintendo
And I don't mean the 4 below were bad, they just had some sort of meh to them. Here's my scoring:
Sony - 10 - we'll hardly get a showing like this again in the near future, they made the best statement they could make by slaying vaporwave and dropping 3 megatons on stage. SFV, No Man's Sky and Uncharted 4 contributed to the show's solid lineup.
Microsoft - 7.5 - solid showing, exceeded my expectations "by a nose"
. RotTR looks outstandingly good and the Hololens stuff was cool to look at. Backwards compatibility was quite the nice ace for them and Cuphead stole the show for me.
Nintendo - 2 - I felt sadness while watching their digital event, as it was complete garbage. Nothing really stood out, and the best we got was a release date for Xenoblade X. That 3DS Metroid game looks eye-harmingly horrible. Nintendo was a disappointment for me.
Bethesda - 8 - They didn't show many games, but we saw plenty from those they brought. DOOM looks sick and Fallout 4's soonish release and awesome footage made for quite a notable presentation overall. Too bad they self-leaked Dishonored 2 the day before lol
EA - 5.5 - Unravel and Battlefront were the highlights of a showing filled with filler and sports. They went onto waaaay too much detail on their sports games and the Pelé moment dragged.
Ubisoft - 6 - When you think Ubisoft can't come up with a worse way of presenting their yearly Just Dance game, they drop Jason Derulo and allow him to murder one of his own songs on stage....there was very little wowing stuff here (For Honor), rest was just shooting, shooting and more shooting. Plus cinematic trailers. Aisha Tyler was a plus though, she was less cray than last year but still funny.
Square-Enix - 9 - This company is wearing their redemption suit and it shows. While the event was too formal and it felt smaller in scope than all the others, they still managed to provide a solid showing, mixed with announced games and surprises like a Nier sequel, Project Setsuna or that marvellous KH3 gameplay trailer. Hashimoto-san trolled folks a bit by dragging the roll-in of KH3 footage and it was hilarious. By my standards, this could have been a 10, if they had presented FFXII HD, but they didn't, so that's 1 point down.
PC Gaming - ? - Didn't watch, but the summary I got from some friends was 'MEH'.
This E3 was an extremely solid one overall, definitely 2 or 3 steps up from last year. Gamescom, TGS, PGW and PSX should be good this year, so we're off to some more epic announcements!!
