Sony wasn't that good... Nintendo won E3...

i-dont-understand-spanish.gif

To be fair, I judged the conferences mainly for those games that come out this year and early next, i.e. the games that we can play soon-ish.

The late 2016 and beyond games are nice and all, but so far away that I'm not interested in them right now.

Microsoft: 8.5, Actual games with release date, exclusives and support for the console

Sony: 7.0, Just gave what everybody wanted and nothing to their console.

Nintendo: 6.0

PC Gamer: 8.0 Solid conference with some surprises

Ubisoft: 7.5 Just solid but too much Tom clancy

EA: 4.5 Its E3 for gods sake, the gaming press doesnt want sports

Bethesda: 8.5, Great first time

Square-Enix: 6.5, nothing new
Pretty close to what I feel. I was a bit more positive on EA, though. I like sports and if people are counting Shenmue and FFVII towards Sony's conference despite not showing any gameplay, I can list Mass Effect for EA, which is mega for me. Also, Battlefront looks ridiculously good.

Also, add +1 to everything just because I really liked this E3 in general.

I have only watched 4 presentations so here are my grades:

Microsoft -> B

+ Lots of new games announced that are coming this year
+ Backwards compatibility, albeit limited
+ They really focused on the games rather than other unrelated stuff, which has been consistent ever since that debacle of an E3 2 years ago
- All CGIs and scripted gameplay everywhere
- Shooters, shooters, shooters. I know there are varied genres there but it's shooter dominated
- Had some awkward moments, especially when trying to get some cheers from the crowd

Sony -> B+
+ Good pacing and hype trailers
+ A good mix of gameplay and CGIs
+ the lineup of games have been great
+ Finally good to see MIA games living in one conference
- Seeing a supposed to be big AAA PS3 game abandoning ship and coming to PS4 just makes me feel shitted on, as a PS3 owner
- A lot of these games feel so far away from coming
- The kickstarter thing in Shenmue 3 presentation thing feels so wrong to me. It's good to see Shenmue 3 alive, don't get me wrong, but Sony could have just outright 100% funded the game rather than use the hype to beg money from fans for "gauging the interest."
- So little love for Vita (understandable, but still...)

Nintendo -> C
+ The developer insights on both Star Fox Zero and Super Mario Maker are awesome
+ Lots of new games for 3DS being shown. Nobody can say that the 3DS is dead now...
+ Firm release dates finally for the big Wii U games from last year (XCX, SMM, YWW)
- That cringe-worthy ending...
- Games really rubbed the people the wrong way lol, especially the new Metroid and Animal Crossing for Wii U
- Why you didn't show the other Wii U games Nintendo!? Devil's Third and Fatal Frame could have at least been shown for a minute or two...Guess people can say that the Wii U is dead now... :p
- Staggering some content really hurt the presentation. Should have placed the Ryu and Roy reveal trailers in there, and move the DLC release "right after this Digital Event".

Square Enix -> C
+ Lots of new games for consoles, finally
+ News of localization in there
- The presentation was a bore, to be honest
- They could really use some practice

Barren? There wont be enough time to play all of the games releasing.

If anything is actually barren it's wiiU

I like the Uncharted collection and will defnitely buy it, but everything else seems to be multiplat and playable on PC, so...

Wii U has Mario Maker, Star Fox, Yoshi, Xenoblade as well as Zelda for 3DS that I'm excited about. Not the best of their holiday line-ups, but a decent one.

Yeah yeah, Sony's was nice and all... but these legendary games don't come out until next year and 2017. So let's be realistic: For this year, Sony's line-up looks kind of barren, at least to me. So yeah, not impressed. I will say Nintendo, not because I liked how they handled their reveals, but because I like most of the games being shown there.

Uhm since when was e3 about only the year following it ?sont blew the thing apart ... 2015 sucks first party wise for fall but sony won e3 no questions asked ... And this is from a don't fan who was was thinking no way can don't too ms this e3 ... Till that conference happened .

Basically, what I didn't like about the 3 legends was that we only have vague release windows or nothing at all. FF7 might as well be 2018 for all I know lol.

For me, it's much more fun to see games that are actually coming out in the near future, everything else is too far away to really grasp my interest.

Sony: AAA (Nothing can beat TLG, FFVII remake, Shenmue 3, UC4 together in one conference.

Microsoft: B+ (Very solid conference. Games, games and games. Very excited to see the game play of Halo 5, Gear 4 and RotTR. Excited to see the new IP like Recore and Sea of Thieves. And fucking excited to see Rare Replay, GeOW remaster and the backward compatibility. The only reason I don't give it a "A" is the lack of support/ip/title from Japanese publisher. No FFVII, no Shenmue 3, and no Nier 2. This hurts me. Sometimes, I started to doubt if Phil Spencer is a good visionary.)

Nintendo: F (What is this exactly?)

EA: F (What is this exactly? Pele interview?)

Ubisoft: C (great conference. Many interesting contents)

The rest conference: didn't watch, so will not judge.

Nintendo's was my favorite as that's the only one I bothered to watch live. It had lots of humor in it, showed lots of games and gave backround info on some of them which was very interesting. It also showed one of my favorite games in the whole conference, Star Fox Zero. Lots of other interesting games also, although many of them not really for me. There was also lots of disappointing stuff this year, so this was far from a great conference btw. 6/10.

Sony's conference I watched in a quick fashion. Sure big announcements like Shenmue 3, but as a kickstarter project... wtf is this shit? Final Fantasy VII remake, but no gameplay at all, just some crappy CGI trailer, wtf... The Last Guardian looking like the exact same game as on PS3, so it's taken years and years with no progress, just a change in platform, and on top of that the gameplay also looks bad. Uncharted 4 looked good, although boring. But the conference as a whole was entertaining for people to look forward to games that don't come out in years. 5,5/10.

Didn't watch or care for the rest really.

Bethesda: 6/10

+ Fallout 4
+ Doshonored 2
- Doom looked lame

Microsoft: 9.5/10

+ Halo 5
+ Recore
+ Rare content
+ Backwards Compatibility
+ Hololens
+ Gears 4
+ Elite Controller
+ Cool Indies

EA: 6/10

+ Mass Effect
+ Unravel
+ Some other cool stuff
- Too much emphasis on sports

Ubisoft: 7.5/10

+ The Division
+ Ghost Recon looked awesome
+ Rainbow 6 Siege

Sony: 9.5/10

+ FFVII Remake
+ FFVII Remake
+ FFVII Remake
+ FFVII Remake
+ The Last Guardian
+ Shenmue 3
+ Horizon
+ Uncharted 4
+ and FFVII Remake

Nintendo: 1/10

+ Xenoblade Chronicles X release date
- Star Fox looked dissapointing
- they focused on amiibos
- Metroid Prime Troll Edition
- cringeworthy presentations
- mainly focused on 3DS and ditched Wii U
- embarrassing performance, lineup, and promises.

Square Enix: 7/10

+ Kingdom Hearts 3
+ Star Ocean looked surprisingly cool (seamless combat)
+ Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman
+ New RPG Studio
+ Nier 2

Sony > MS > Bethesda > Ubisoft > Square Enix >>> EA

Sony's conference was one of the greatest I've ever seen. Would've been perfect if they'd gotten the pacing of the 2nd half better instead of front loading the first hour, but man, they dropped bomb after bomb at the beginning for sure. Horizon was my favorite trailer/reveal of E3. Uncharted demo had my jaw on the floor once again. Leading with Last Guardian was genuinely shocking, I figured they might show it, but I didn't expect it to start the show.

Microsoft did a fantastic job and this was the first time I actually got interested in buying an Xbox One. Backwards compatibility was huge. Highlights: Sea of Thieves, Backwards compat., Dark Souls 3, ReCore.

Bethesda's conference was good, I'm not really into Doom but what they showed was entertaining. Dishonored 2 trailer/reveal was great. Fallout 4 will consume my life when it comes out. Fallout Shelter available right away was cool.

Ubi was hit or miss but they showed some intriguing things. For Honor & Ghost Recon Wildlands were the highlights, also enjoyed that Division gameplay where the guy went rogue and stole their loot. They usually do a good job showing off AC at their E3 but not this year. Wasn't feeling that at all. Just Dance with Jason Derulo was awful.

Square showed some cool stuff. I'm not into alot of these franchises but Kingdom Hearts was looking fantastic. Presentation was a little awkward at times with pauses in between trailers. Too much mobile/handheld stuff.

EA's pacing in their conference was terrible. They'd show an interesting game then go off on sports for 20 minutes. I love Pele, but there was no need to have an interview with the guy on stage. Highlights were: Mass Effect Andromeda, Unravel, Mirrors Edge, and Battlefront.

Didn't watch Nintendo's conference.

Microsoft: 6/10. A typical Microsoft conference, full from start to finish of exactly the same grimdark shooters and driving games that are featured every year. The wonderful Cupheads was cancelled out by the staggeringly awful Sea Of Thieves. Deserves credit for showing game after game after game, but there was nothing for anyone who wasn't already sold on the same types of slightly soulless games the company has been shilling since the original XBox.

Sony: 8/10. As you'd expect from Sony, a nice mix between the mainstream and bolder, slightly more experimental and colourful titles. Delivering two of gaming's pipe dreams in a full FFVII remake and the return of Last Guardian shows Sony understands that spectacle is at the heart of E3. Only loses points for the blatant, exploitative cynicism of the Shenmue kickstarter, which is effectively Sony holding fans of the series to ransom. Left a sour taste on an otherwise excellent show.

Nintendo: 4/10. We knew about Starfox, and it was the gaming highlight of the show despite looking like the blandest possible version of the game anyone could've imagined. Everything else either felt like trolling (a smudgy-looking Metroid spin-off? A Wii U Animal Crossing... board game?), mediocre (Mario Tennis) or filler (extensive sections on already well-covered games). The segment where Miyamoto detailed his inspiration for Starfox was lovely. The puppets were briefly amusing. Everything else fell totally flat, especially in the wake of the outstanding NWC (and Mario Maker's stellar showing) the day before.

I have to admit I didn't see them all, but of the one I saw the Sony conference clearly won. As a Sega fanboy back in the day the Shenmue Kickstarter announcement alone made it stand out from all the rest.

This won't be topped for a long time, for me personally.

If I didn't mention something in these conferences, I forgot them.

Bethesda - A
Doom gameplay was amazing. A bit heavy on the new melee/takedown system, but the Hell level they showed and the movement and the guns and just, AH! Top it off with that new editor they have, I'm eagerly waiting for Doom. Dishonored 2 was a nice announcement, and so was the definitive edition for the first one. I didn't particularly care for Hearthstone: ES Edition or Battlecry, but that doesn't matter because of...

FALLOUT 4. Gameplay looked great, customization, oh and the customization! The main character, the SO, guns, your own village! Incredible. That montage of "fucking shit up" with the Atom bomb song was beautiful. My favorite showing of all E3.

Oh and the iPhone game. Eh, not interested.

Microsoft - C+
Halo 5. MEH. Yes, E3 must be linear, but fuck that. Game Informer talks about all this openness in the second fucking level with Blue Team and at E3 we get what amounts to a CoD section. The Warzone trailer was alright. Recore was also meh because of no gameplay. In fact, there were more CG trailers than I would have liked. Recore, DS3, GW2, and Gigantic. Also Early Access on Xbox. Yay /s

Besides that, fucking FALLOUT 4 MODS, BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY, that new controller, and DA:I coming to EA Access later.

Tomb Raider, I don't care about right now. But that Rare Collection, and Sea of Thieves. So good. Then the show ends off with Gears. Uninteresting. Like really, that Gears 4 demo was so boring.

A lot of that to me was just easily forgettable, but the stuff that did stick was amazing.

EA - C
Mass Effect was CG. Garden Warfare 2 looked good, and so did Battlefront. Yarney was a cool surprise. Beyond that? Sports and uh, I can't even remember what else they showed.

Oh yeah, the new KOTOR expansion.

Ubisoft - D
Only stuck around for the South Park game and some of the Division. Everything else I skipped or just played in the background.

Sony - C
Hype personified. TLG, FF7 Remake, Shenmue 3. This is so ama oh wait these are years (singular for TLG) away. Can't get excited.

Horizon looked great. Like really great, and not in just the graphics. Tone down the character speaking though. Got annoying.

Dreams has some great potential. No Man's Sky was alright.

Hitman was a nice surprise. Assassin's Creed was um, something I think? Oh and COD gets one month DLC early. Whoopie.

I missed the Uncharted gameplay unfortunately.

10/10 Sony

Sony slaughtered the competition at E3 like they are slaughtering them in this poll with the best E3 conference ever. If they only announced one of the three megatons they would have won it, but they announced 3. Plus Horizon and Uncharted demos are the apex of what a E3 demo should be, and they have the looks to wow even the most jaded.

I'm shocked at some people praising Nintendo's presentation...did we watch the same show???

I own a Wii U and I am a Nintendo fan...but I feel like I got kicked in the balls hard. I know people are entitled to their opinions, but when you end up giving Nintendo's presentation a higher score than Sony or Microsoft......then....just wow....

I only watched Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft and EA.

EA had a few highlights. Star Wars Battlefront and Unravelled. The rest was pretty dull and my attention went regularely elsewhere.

Ubisoft always give a pretty solid showing imo. They might have tarnished their name a bit with broken games and downgrades and the Ubiformula-games, but you can't deny they give impressive showings. This year didn't really have a 'holy shit' moment like Watch Dogs, The Division or Rainbox Six though, but that might be because For Honor wasn't realy something I'm pretty interested in.

Microsoft gave a real solid show. Good pacing, lots of games and the cool anouncement of Backwards compatible (allthough I don't care for that anymore two years into the generation, with more new games to play then I can manage). However, they played it really safe, with the usual Halo, Gears and Forza showing which... weren't all that impressive to be honest. I saw nothing really new en inticing. The showing of the new Rare IP made good for that, and some stuff like Recode looked cool. But offcourse, CGI trailers gonna CGI. Overall, they also showed a lot we already knew, so suprises were really, really slim. Biggest 'news' was backwards compatible I guess, and that's, well, a bit sad?

But I might look down on MS's show a bit harder just because Sony blew it out of the park. The moment they just kicked of with Last Guardian I knew: this gonna be good. If the show, what I guessed would be their biggest anouncement, rigt at the beginning, they must have a lot more on their sleeve. And boy, did they? Offcourse everybody talks about FFVII Remake (which is cool, but doesn't get me all that excited; especially as it seems way early in development and will take years, if it ever shows) and Shenmue III (which was great, but as I didn't play the previous two doesn't really grab me either). But that actually takes away from what they showed next to that. Horizon for instance looked possitively awesome. The gameplay gave me the feeling that it would not be possible to pull of on previous gen, and that's what we're looking for right? Loved the style to, and the prospect of hunting robodino's. Dreams was weird, but strangely intriguing. World of FF was cute to say the least... Then the show fell a bit flat because of third party showings we allready knew of (en CoD isn't as exciting as it once was). Battlefront was cool, but the EA showing was more impressive imo.
But then the showstopper. My god, did Uncharted 4 look awesome or not? Really hit all the right buttons with me, and sent me to bed (it was almost 5 AM over here by then, birds whistling and all) with a great feeling.

I know some argue that all Sony showed was 2016, and 2015 is barren. But I think this is a bullshit argument actually. Don't want to go into list wars, but the exclusives output this year is on par with MS, only MS loads everything up in the final three months of the year. I actually prefer getting big ones in spring, as holiday season is allready too packed.
But what I really want to stress out is that though Microsoft showed lots of 2015 stuff, most, if not all, of it was stuff we allready knew. Nothing really new, and in long established series to boot. Don't get me wrong, I'll grab Halo 5 day one, and Tomb Raider to. But I can't shake the feeling that what I saw from them wasn't halve as exciting as what Sony showed for 2016

Sony: A. In the trailer for that Ancestors game where they were going through all the milestones of mankind they should have put "Sony at E3" in the bit where it said 2015 (lol that would make a pretty good gif)

Microsoft: C. Backwards compatibility switch flick and the Rare 30th anniversary pack were a big deal to alot of folk, fairly solid showing.

EA: C- Unraveled and Battlefront raised this one up from an otherwise ok showing.

Ubisoft: C+ Darulo and the just dance stuff was bad the rest I thought they did a good job of. Still cant trust an Ubisoft trailer though no matter how much it looks like gameplay .

I laugh at posts like yours during my breaks from Mario Kart.

Sorry, just kidding. :P

Oculus: Doesn't matter without price
Bethesda: F - Just simply don't like any of their IP's
Microsoft: D - Maybe Recore will be forced to come to Windows 10
EA: F - I don't know her
Ubisoft: F - Automatic F for life
Sony: B+ - Should have shown The Tomorrow Children, Drifter or Hot Shots Golf
Nintendo: C - Simply for how they trolled people with Star Fox lack of online and that fake Metroid
Square Enix: D - Can't finish the games they have, shows more that are incomplete
PC: D - If only these guys won't be stuck to Steam only

Microsoft: B - A solid B showing, some stuff we expected like new Gears and stuff we didn't like BC. Very hyped for BC as it means (for some titles) not having to dig around and swap out plugs and inputs and using my old 360 pad.

Sony: SSS - They knocked it so far out of the park it came around again and they knocked it the other way. Then it came back again and they knocked it all the way to the moon. FANTASTIC showing. Horizon looks amazing, The Last Guardian looks like it will really make me feel some stuff, revealing FFVII remake, announcing the Shenmue 3 kickstarter that moved some people to tears with just 3 notes and a cherry blossom. Uncharted 4 looking insane. There was other stuff but the stuff listed overpowers that and any other E3 conference.

Nintendo: C- - A generous score mainly due to my love of Star Fox (and the reveal that Platinum is working on it). The muppets were also super cute but I thought it would lead to an announcement or something. Three player Zelda looks cool though and the Galactifc Federation Metroid spinoff thing while not what we wanted could end up being kinda cool.

Bethesda: B+ - Doom looks good even though not as fast as the original it;'s understandable. Looks good though. Fallout 4 looks great with the crafting stuff and finally making every item useful and they announce an iOS game that looks good!

EA: C - Unravel looks very nice, Mirror Edge 2 looks great, Battlefront looks so so so so good. Other than that it wasn't good.

Ubisoft: C+ - Division looked good, Siege looked good, Ghost Recon looked good, South Park was an awesome surprise. For Honor looked good. Can't remember the rest.

Square Enix: A++ - KH3 footage, Just Cause 3 looking awesome, Deus Ex looking Awesome, interesting Hitman game, FFVII is theirs after all so points for that even though they gave the reveal to Sony (FOOLS!), NeiR 2 by PLATINUM! New jrpg in the works. Star Ocean 5 looking sweet. I will probably buy every game shown. Except the FF and KH app things, they seemed not great.

Microsoft - B+ some great looking games and some brilliant reveals. ReCore has my interest and although it was a CGI trailer it looks like it could be brilliant with the development team behind it.
Hololens looked interesting but will see nearer release.
Gears 4, Halo 5 and Forza looked great but Halo looked meh campaign wise but the multiplayer looked exciting.
Rare 30... I have preordered it from Amazon.co.uk for £18... £18!!! I have only ever played Nuts and Bolts and Viva Piñata so excited at these other games.

And backwards compatibility... May not seem a big thing but its great, I have so many games and would like to streamline my console set up (Just have to wait for publishers to agree to their games)

Sony - B... Yup I thought it was worse than MS... TLG didn't do much for me, I hated Ico but I am happy it is actually alive!

Shenmue 3, I've played the first two so I should be hyped, but it was a kickstarter... Its funded but I thought it was a strange thing to do, and no gameplay or trailer shows that it probably hasn't even started development.

FFVII ReMake.... Hmm I wasn't hyped at first but I am getting there now! I hope it comes to the Xbox One so I can play it, but like Shenmue it is still very early in development, even if it has started at all!
Uncharted 4, looked like Uncharted which is no bad thing.
Horizon, Looked amazing really interesting.

I understand the Hype, but they are very Niche games shown. They need Shenmue 1 and 2 as not many people may have played it.

Nintendo - F. Its the end of the WiiU, this conference showed it. Nothing got my interest.

Bethesda A! Amazing conference, quality games that got my hyped. been playing Doom since it was shareware! I love that series and the new game has me so excited... Fallout 4 Pipboy edition, I waited for game.co.uk to let me buy it, I had 3 people trying to get it done for me, I was desperate. ITs the first time I have actually preordered a game as soon as possible!

Only gonna comment on the ones I watched. I guess the only major one I missed was Ubi, because after the EA show, I actually lacked the WILL to watch it. EDIT: I guess I missed S-E as well.

Bethesda: Real good showing, once the pre-show ended and it actually got going. The preshow gets docked huge points from me having to see Sessler continuing to leech money from this industry, knowing that he actually despises the gaming audience. Just seeing one of his two faces is a real turn-off for me. Webb is still pretty awesome at hosting, even when asked to do boring stuff with cosplayers.

Onto the real show and the games, Dishonored is huge for me. Fallout looked like Fallout game should. Fallout Vault I thought was a cool little deal. Doom made me actually want to give Doom a shot again. A little too much "me too" feeling at stuff clearly aimed at Blizz, but what are you gonna do?

Solid show...taking the preshow out of the equation, this was my second-favorite show. Which is huge, especially for a first-time company. Pretty impressive, actually. The employees opening the show was great, even though it's been done a lot. It's always nice to see some of the faces behind the games. The montage that followed coulda used a little work. I don't need to hear "Tick Tick Boom" in a montage for a gaming company in 2007. Overall, adding all the elements, it seemed real safe in it's presentation. But it was solid, and maybe they'll spice it up with some unique new ideas down the road now that they got the first one out of the way. Pete Hines is arguably the best PR suit hosting any of these shows, and that's pretty big.

...

Microsoft: Bless their hearts, they try. But they always get shit wrong or come up short. The whole opening montage about being fearless and not being satisfied by common pursuits, while a bunch of tried and true, almost annual franchises flash on the screen--even if they are fan favorites--rang hollow. And even the crappiest pro wrestling booker knows, when you put plants in the crowd, you don't hand out the same damn t-shirts for them to wear so they stick out like sore thumbs and scream "I'm a plant." That just makes everything seem fake, and when it's one of the first things I see, it makes me lose the childlike enthusiasm and wonderment I want to have for your show, and makes me turn suspicious.

Recore looked cool. But it was a video.

Backwards compatibility sounds nice, but we experienced Microsoft's brand of BC back with the 360, so saying it is nice, delivering is another thing. Also, last gen kinda proved that BC was more of a bullet point than something most gamers actually used. Even with full BC on my OG PS3, I hardly used it. Hell, I even bought HD remakes of games that I had the discs for.

I'm not buying that Hololens is really something that needs to be featured at a games show. Another thing that made me more skeptical than excited.

They had two main jobs--get Halo and Gears over. As a lapsed player of both franchises, I don't think they particularly accomplished either of those goals. I guess if you are still a huge diehard fan, you might have gotten excited, but for me, it didn't do much.

The high point of the show for me was seeing Cuphead and its unique art style.

Their stage was...interesting. But overall, it just seemed kinda chaotic.

I'm sure when MS put this show together, they were rubbing their hands together saying "oh boy, we've got them now..." thinking they had put the perfect show together. Bless them for trying. They still have a long way to go. I know I sound negative, but overall it was still the third-best show I saw.

...

EA: Here we travel from skepticism to downright pessimism. EA just doesn't know how to reach me. Even when they have games that look really good like they had this E3. I want quite a few of these games.

Need for Speed is a great looking game, coming 10 years too late. If this came near the height of the tuner craze, it would have been huge. Still looks like loads of fun though. Unravel looks like a day one purchase. This and Mirror's Edge were the highlights for me. The PvZ "live gameplay demo" looked like the most scripted live demo ever seen by humankind.

The worst thing EA does is they just don't grasp how to pace their shows. At all.

Still, EA has big sports licenses, and Star Wars. Basically a license to print cash money.

Worst show I saw. And not really because of the games.

...

Sony: This was pretty much a masterpiece of a show. The opening montage that is usually a big deal was a little sparse, but I liked the T-Rex with the dropped jaw, as it actually did predict the rest of the show.

I really can't say anything more than has already been said, probably 1,000 times better than I can. If the EA show was a lesson on how to not pace a show, this was a master class on how you do it. Almost everything hit hard and fast. Few things--other than the most contractually-obligated items no doubt--lingered too long, and most just left you wanting more. Save for the opening of the show, where it seemed like an unrelenting onslaught of OMG, the big announcements and reveals were generally well-spaced, and just slayed. The more business-oriented stuff (like TV, and certain corporate partnership stuff) usually hit the points it had to and moved on.

Speaking of pace, special props need to go out to SE for that FF7 Remake reveal video. That thing was just perfectly laid out. The way it gradually unfolded itself for the audience, leaving a series of clues from the visual to the musical that you understood in order of your familiarity with the game, until it just spelled it out for the clueless or the disbelievers, was epic.

From a production standpoint, they didn't really break any new ground--using the same kinds of screen/stage layout--but since it's still probably the best layout in the business, maybe that's an "if it ain't broke..." thing. The lighting design actually seemed a little pared down from years past. I like the crazy lightshows with the sharp beam luminaires shooting everywhere on cue, so this was a tiny complaint.

Best show. Maybe ever.

...

Nintendo: Just sad, generally. Can't say much more than that.

I think I speak for all of us who use Pelé-based scoring systems, that EA towered over the rest.

In all seriousness, I think I liked Square Enix and Bethesda's the most. Their games tended to be the ones I cared for the most, and their software also had a large presence in other conferences. SE did suffer a bit from announcing games way too early though, as I have no idea what stuff of theirs is coming out in the near future. Hashimoto is still a master troll hustler though, which I can't help but applaud. The way he kept careening towards Kingdom Hearts 3 and getting the crowd excited, only to swerve to other games, was beautiful.

Microsoft had a lot to show, but not a lot that appealed to me and my tastes. Not bad, but a bit wasted on me. I did see a lot of games that would also appear on Windows 10, which makes good on Phil Spencer's PC promises.

EA showed a lot too, but a similar "issue" to Microsoft's show. It also had that Pelé section though, which seemed to last forever. I must admit, not keeping up with sports games, I was pretty impressed with the NBA game. The animation and facial capture stuff was not something I expected to see in an annualised game.

Ubisoft was the one I turned off after 15 minutes. Can't really comment beyond that.

Sony brought a lot of big names, but their big focus was on 2016, 2017 and beyond. They had my game of the show though, Horizon. A bit down on what Media Molecule is doing at the moment, but it's entirely possible I simply don't understand what they are doing. Only time will tell on that one. Solid show with a lot of crowd pleasers though, so I'm not surprised to see the turn-out of the poll.

The writing was on the wall when Nintendo stated their show was going to focus on games coming out this fiscal year. I know this is how they usually roll in Directs, but it leaves a bit of a sour taste in your expectations when most of their software is stuff you already know. They know how to present and pace a conference, but the content just wasn't really there for me. Also the Metroid 3DS game is my biggest disappointment of the show. I don't know what I wanted from Metroid, but it wasn't that.

All in all this year's E3 was typified by a weird lack of gameplay footage. Most games seemed to show CG trailers or in-engine scripted cutscenes. There were several instances where people in the room were asking what genre a game was, or what it would play like. I'm sure marketing people have data to prove that scripted events and cinematics probably sell a game better than gameplay does, but it feels kind of lame for an interactive medium.

Bethesda: A, nice long gameplay
Microsoft: B, new rare ip
EA: E, more of the same (i like fifa)
Ubisoft: B, new south park game
Sony: A+++, TLG, FF7 and Shenmue 3 best thing ever !!!!!!
Nintendo: F-, nothing for me
Square Enix: B, deus ex, hitman and jrpg nice but not great

How this happened? What did i miss from Nintendo Digital Event?

sony birthed 3 gaming miracles like mary in the manger popping out triplets
this. no point in talking about the other conferences.

just when i thought the MS conference would be hard to top, sony made it look like childsplay.

Bethesda 7/10. Fallout 4. Really excited for Fallout 4 but that was the only thing at their conference I was interested in so their conference as a whole doesn't deserve a higher overall score.

EA 6/10. It's really hard to get excited about lots of games which are almost the same every year. And EA Access is guff. If it was on PS4 I wouldn't pay for it. Battlefront was their highlight, I guess.

Ubisoft 7.5/10. Whilst I like the idea of having a professional hostess the whole thing was a bit too sweary and felt like they were trying too hard to be edgy.
They do have more potentially interesting titles than the likes of EA, but recent controversies over parity, glitchy performance and 'bullshots' mean that you end up viewing their announcements with the taint of suspicion.
I'm excited for The Division. Please don't let it be a disappointment, Ubisoft.

Microsoft 7.5/10. I find Halo to be somewhat dull and generic. Whilst I enjoyed the combat gameplay of GOW to a reasonable degree, I found the stereotypical, steroidal protagonists and vulgar script to be uninspiring.
I thought the Elite controller was an interesting idea (but should maybe have been there for the console launch).
I really liked the look of the Rare pirate game and the montage of old Rare games reminded me what MS can be capable of. I used to really enjoy B&K Nuts and Bolts with my son when he was younger. However, a re-release of old games isn't particularly exciting unless it's a really snazzy remaster.
I think backwards compatibility is the sort of feature which you think you really want in principle but then you never actually use. I want new games that utilise the power of the new consoles. If I must play last gen games on my current gen machine then I want better frame rates, image quality, resolution or other improvements.
Seeing the Ford GT40 was nice. The cup thing was cool looking but I don't know if the actually gameplay looked all that interesting to me.

Sony 9/10. Horizon was jaw-dropping - gorgeous and interesting.
Battlefront - I was ready to be dismissive of this after all the problems with BF4, but I must admit it actually looked really rather good.
I'm not really on the hypetrain for The Last Guardian as I had a X360 last gen, but the hype it clearly generated at the conference was infectious. Same with Shenmue really. FF7 is a game I did play and although I never became a big FF series fan the new graphics has got me interested in keeping an eye on the remake.
No Mans Sky still looks interesting and adds to the diversity Sony were bringing, as did Disney Infinity. I'm not interested in Disney Infinity at all but the overly excitable fellow from Disney at least stopped it from being tedious.
The PlayStation Vue section was kept mercifully short as there was nothing to interest Europeans there.
Uncharted looked gorgeous and the destructible environments were impressive. It was pleasing to see gameplay rather than CGI for this and several of the other games.
I would have liked more from Morpheus but I do understand why this section was kept short.
Sony's showing was attractive and diverse. The presentation flowed well and never sagged.
I feel they could possible do with getting a few more of their presenters to be like the chubby blond guy (name escapes me atm) who liked Destiny, who usually seems a bit less 'autocuey' than Andrew House and the others.
I wouldn't want them to tip over into the 'trying to be edgy by swearing a lot' approach Ubisoft used as that feels too casual though.

Sony= A: This conference got this rating based on Uncharted, Horizon, Dreams, Battlefront and No Man's Sky. Plenty of footage for all of these. Also Hitman was a nice bonus. Am not sure what to think of Last Guardian honestly but it was nice to see gameplay. Black Ops 3 disappointed me too. They took out the more focused cinematic experience and now it just looks bland in my opinion.

Microsoft= B-: This was pretty good when I was watching it. It kind of fell apart afterwards though. I only watched bits and piece but liked what I saw. Then they revealed the controller costs 150 dollar, backwards compatibility is kinda bad and I don't care about Gears of War. It gets this rating based on fallout, the rare stuff and Rise of the Tomb Raider. The indie games kind of bored me honestly, besides the amazing cuphead of course.

Nintendo= D: I wanted a Wii u last Christmas based on Splatoon, Zelda, Mario Maker and other games that were meant to be announced. Instead they showed nothing that really interested me. I liked Super Mario Maker, but they spent too long on it and Xenoblade X. I already own a 3ds and the only game that interested me is Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam. Super disappointing.

Ubisoft= B-: What the hell am I doing? Ranking Ubisoft the same as Microsoft. well For Honour, Rainbow Six Seige, South Park, Ghost recon and The Division all look great. Don't care about AC and Just Dance, but Overall great conference. For Honour is one of my best games of the show.

Ea= C: I liked it. I knew what to expect and Garden Warfare 2, Unravel and Battlefront made it all worth it. I like the look of the new Need for Speed as well.

Bethesda= B: Fallout 4 and Doom Snapmap. All I need. Sad they didn't announce any news about the Doom Beta.

Square Enix= B: Kingdom Hearts 3... All I need and they had a good line up to go with it. I liked the more subdued style as well.

Sony: A+

I mean seriously. This is what dreams are made of. I actually thought I had died or something and this was heaven but I realised I would probably be a he'll guy so I couldn't have died.

Square Enix: A-

That was absolutely amazing. Kingdom Hearts 3 footage was out of nowhere and bloody amazing (I watched it at least 30 times by now). And the icing on the cake was Nier 2.......with platinum.... now this is definitely dream stuff.

Ubisoft: B+

Liked everything they showed tbh. But it was all very Ubisofty. Didn't see them do anything unique.

Microsoft: B-

I only see MS conferences out of curiosity tbh since I never buy xbox consoles, but I liked a few things they showed, especially recore

EA: C-

And that is only because of Unravel. Otherwise this was abysmal.

Nintendo: C+

That is only for the puppet show and Xenoblade release date though. The rest..............

Here's my Score:

Bethesda's Conference - Red hot sizzling fire. Real Score (
8/10)

Microsoft's conference - Campfire. Real Score (
5/10)

Sony's conference - Nuclear. Real Score (
11/10
)

Square Enix's conference - Atom Bombs. Real Score ([SPOILER8/10)[/SPOILER]

EA's conference - Fire lit by a match then died halfway through. Real Score (
2/10)

Ubisoft's conference - Hot burning rocks. Real Score (
7/10)

To be fair, I judged the conferences mainly for those games that come out this year and early next, i.e. the games that we can play soon-ish.

The late 2016 and beyond games are nice and all, but so far away that I'm not interested in them right now.
Yeah everyone knows the time difference between Q4 2015 and Q1 2016 is hugeee

Bethesda 9/10: Great Pacing, Fallout looked amazing, Doom and Dishonored looked solid.

Microsoft 7.5/10: Solid, safe conference, nothing revolutionary but nothing horrid either. Hit the check-marks with Halo, Gears, and Forza. Backwards Compatibility is a solid plus. Smaller titles looked good as well.

EA 3/10: Poor pacing, way to much sports talk. All they had was a short ME trailer, and underwhelming showing of Mirrors Edge and Battlefront which personally didn't impress.

Ubisoft 7/10: Another solid show, with good showings with Assassins Creed, The Division, Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. One could argue that a lot of the games felt similar but they have me looking forward to their games. Oh and I guess the South Park game was cool, but I have no interest in that series

Sony 8/10: Hard to judge as I honestly don't give a fuck about TLG, Shenmue, or FFXII. Horizon looked really cool though and Uncharted looked like Uncharted. Surprising lack of Morpheus

Nintendo N/A: Didn't Watch

Square Enix: 7/10 Liked Hitman, Just Cause III, and Deus Ex, though some parts of the show felt like it dragged on.

PC N/A: Didn't Watch most of it except for the ArmA stuff.

Overall it was a good E3. Very little bullshit, solid games. 8/10

Microsoft: A

Back Compat - Such great news and even more impressive by the sheer engineering feat needed to accomplish this. A giant win for consumers, everyone here should be pushing for announcements like this from companies. PSNow is an always online money grab that hurts you financially. Open your eyes.

Elite Controller - Looks great, can't wait to use it. Priced below competition, so MS is going for the throat. You can expect to see this at every competitive gaming event, just based on build quality and price. Scuff is dead.

Halo 5 - Who can complain about Star Wars: Republic Commando in their Halo? Not anyone that I respect. The game looks amazing at 1080p and 60 fps, plus the new multiplayer mode with enormous maps will be something that every Halo fan sinks hundreds of hours into. Contender for GOTY 2015.

Recore - Huge surprise. Wow. A dev team with such a pedigree assembling for what looks to be a pretty intriguing experience. You can't argue with the masterworks these people have put out, and no doubt that Recore will be another to add to the list. Incredible.

Forza 6 - Just thinking about this game makes me sweat, my adrenaline pump and my pupils dilate. Sheeiiiite. I've hydroplaned in real life on the freeway going 90mph (sorry brits idk what hat is in kilometers per hour) and that shit was fun as fuck. Can't wait to try that out in Forza in a supercar blasting past someone at 180mph. Legit goosebumps.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - The first Tomb Raider was a top 4 game of last gen. I'll assume that most of you agree with me when I say that. Naturally, seeing the first gameplay footage of RotTR left me feeling great. Can't lie, when she was sliding down the ice my PTSD from the last game kicked in and I had a flash back to a gruesome death by wooden stake. It really sucks for the people who can't play this game right away.

Sea of Thieves - God. Damn. Those were the two words that came out of my mouth when the gameplay trailer started. Best looking game that I've ever seen in my entire life. The water, the art direction, holy shit. Only Rare could pull this off. Online Massive ship battles, islands to discover and booty to loot! Ahoy mother fuckers! Pinata Island better be an Easter egg in this game, that's all I ask for.

Gears 4 - Aww Yisss. Going back to the horror roots is exactly what we needed. The atmosphere in the demo was fucking straight out of a Stephen King novel. Chills. So much mystery surrounding everything I just have to know more, good thing that Gamescom is right around the corner. Seriously, I need this game.

Misc - Hololens is revolutionary, it's going to change the world. This transcends gaming. The Minecraft demo only touches the surface of what it's capable of.
Gamepreview is cool, downloaded one already. EA Access sounded like a plug. The New Xbox One Experience was smart to leave out, would have messed up the pacing.

all in all magnificent conference.

Sony: D

The Last Guardian - Ico vibes are very much there... a little too much, plus it looks way too close graphically to the ps3 version. After waiting so long for the game, the demo left me feeling like "That's it?". TLG really needed a better presentation for the big reveal. Sony just wanted to check the box.

Horizon - What kind of liberal bullshit is this? Okay, so hippies are defending the world against evil technology? Is that the message that they're sending? Come on guys. Even with decent enough graphics, that's not a story I can get behind.

Media Molecule's Dreams - I'd rather do acid tbh

FFVII Remake - So, finally it's out of the way. It's like people who say "man, I wish I was in highschool again, that sure was great for me. Life sucks since highschool ended." well guess what, you get to go back to highschool.

Shenmue III - Oh, this was my favorite. I'm not sure if it was before or after the pointless five second countdown but somewhere in there Sony claimed they had nothing to do with this then it comes out they are funding it, integrity is hard to find these days. It also makes the spectacle of Yu being paraded out begging for every penny of funding for this game absolutely unnecessary. Such a red herring when you think about it. He's a well known, tenured developer, fuck showing him a modicum of respect! Let's have him gravel on stage in front of hundreds of thousands of people. Just announce the game, Sony. Absolutely pathetic.

Uncharted 4: Raise your hand if you think the best way to show Uncharted to an audience is to demo the (hopefully) one driving level in the game. Take alternate rout. Ok. Take alternate rout. Ok. Take alternate rout. The only part that I really remember is when he drives over a dirt hill. yeah....

There was also some third party stuff that was unremarkable. Not sure if I left anything else out.

Didn't watch any other conferences.

Disclaimer: I only really watched MS, Sony's, Square's, and Nintendo's. A lil of Ubisoft, EA and the PC gamer conference as well.

Microsoft [B+/A]: Microsoft was the first E3 conference I watched and wow, what a strong, pleasant start to the E3 week. I stayed up till 2am for this and I had no regrets. Not once was I blearily looking at the screen thinking 'Should I just go to bed now and watch this later?' (-coughNintendocough-)

MS dropped some heavy bombs pretty early on. Halo 5 gameplay, a new customizable controller (whaa?), and native 360 Backwards Compatibility (whaaattt!). It might be only limited to around 20 titles right now but at least it's something. At least it's a start. Seriously two thumbs up, MS. Good on you.

Aside from the usual suspects of Forza and Fable, they had new IPs to show off as well. Recore in particular, was just a CG trailer but it was a CG trailer with a lot of weight. When Keiji Inafune's name appeared across the screen, I flipped. A MS exclusive game and Spencer says it's the start of a new exclusive franchise. Exciting times.

The third parties that they had on stage were pretty dull and forgettable. Fallout 4 was already shown on Betheda's stage and Rainbow Siege didn't look like anything special. EA was a bore but the smattering of scattered clapping to Moore's NFL announcement made me lol. The Hololens segment though was really fun to watch. Unfortunately, everything felt far too staged imo-- the running commentary in my head just kept telling me that there is no way AR can be that smooth. Not anytime soon anyway. Kept getting flashbacks to Milo and the Star Wars kinect demo as well.

Indie showcase = strongest part of the conference imo. Ashen and Beyond Eyes being the standouts. Both are exclusive to the platform as well I think? Beautiful art styles, really cool ideas.

Gears kinda disappointingly ended it all off. Was expecting a grand old big 'one more thing' surprise but hey, I shouldn't have let myself get carried away with the pre-E3 hype right? (Ha.) I thought Gears showed poorly tbh. Was really dark and it was hard to make out what was happening at times.

All in all, a very solid conference. Had some good 'omg' moments. Had fun watching it. Made me feel excited for the week to come.

Sony [A++] : Move aside Twilight Princess and 'No DRM'. This is the E3 of the forever. The one you'll be telling your kids about. The one people will keep pointing back to as one of the most magical moments of E3. THE ONE THAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF. YESSS TLG IS ALIVE AND WELL.

Games that people joke about. Games that everyone was certain were vaporware. Even with the rumblings that they might actually appear this E3, the rumours were mostly met with derisive laughter: 'Don't do this to yourself', 'Let it go, guys', 'You guys are crazy'. And then, boom.

All three. At once. In one conference. This does not happen. This. is. insane.

In this day and age, where everything is usually met with cynical skepticism, Sony's conference has managed to incite pure exhilaration. I have never witnessed a conference like this. People were up on their feet. Grown men and women laughing and crying. If you haven't watched the E3 reaction videos, you should. The passion that people have for these games were palpable and infectious.

They opened with TLG and after the gameplay was over, all I could think of was 'Well how the hell can they top that?' Megatons aside, GG's Horizon might just be my Game of the Show. MM had a cute trailer for their new game Dreams but I still have no clue how that game will play. Is it just an animation studio maker or something? Ah well.

Vue and VR segments were short and sweet. The Disney Infinity part was awkward (felt bad for the guy). But Battlefront looks gorgeous and Arkham Knight was super as always. The COD thing might have been a big deal-- a show of tables turning but that whole section bored me.

UC4 closed it off and wow, what a demo. The driving section seems to hint that we'll be getting a more open UC than what we're used to. The witty banter is still in tact and that game looks gorgeous. No release date though. Boo.

TLG, FF7 remake and Shenmue 3. This is the E3 of legends.

Nintendo [C-]: This was such a dull and disappointing conference. Could be because I was sleepy so I was being extra cranky but the week long directs really made the Digital Event feel super redundant.

Animal Crossing Party? Really, Nintendo? Starfox doesn't look too hot but at least the fans are happy. And Tri Force Heroes just deepened my disappointment. A multiplayer (:() dungeon crawler ( :(( )? Not my thing.

I did enjoy listening to Miyamoto talk about how he designed the Mario levels though. That man is a genius.

Only watched Sony's and Microsoft's conferences, and highlights of others, excluding Nintendo and PC Gamer as I'm not interested in them.

Sony had most games that interested me; Horizon, Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, FFVII remake, Dreams, Arkham Knight's Scarecrow missions, Firewatch, and No Man's Sky. Although the latter presentation was somewhat underwhelming.

Other highlights of the show...
Dark Souls 3
TrackMania Turbo
Fallout 4
Mass Effect: Andromeda
...the latter was a bit disappointment though.

Overall I'm happy with the announcements. The winner for me is Sony because they announced a game I wanted for 14 years and a remake of one of my favorite games of all time.

Bethesda: C-

I almost fell asleep during the Doom gameplay, Fallout 4 made up for it.

Microsoft: B

Same old Forza/Halo/Gears/Fable stuff, some new IPs, although I can't get excited for CGI trailers. I really liked the Rare Replay announcement as well as the tease for the new Rare game Sea of Thieves. The backwards compatibility is awesome and if they keep adding new games I'd consider it a plus for digital distribution as a whole. Rise of the Tomb Raider is probably my most wanted Xbox game this year.

EA: C-

I'm only interested in Mirror's Edge and that game looked great.

Ubisoft: C-

The surprise announcement of the new South Park RPG got me. Everything else I don't want.

Sony: A

Best conference in years. Shenmue 3, FFVIIR. It was like a dream. Even the new Guerilla Games IP looks awesome and I absolutely hate the Killzone games. Uncharted 4 seems like a safe bet. I didn't care for Last Guardian because I didn't really enjoy ICO and SOTC.

Nintendo: D-

Nothing interesting except games we already knew about.

Square Enix: C

Kingdom Hearts 3 looked better than expected, Nier 2 announcement took me by surprise.

Microsoft: A
