EA E3 2014 Press Conference Thread

If the conferences today from MS and EA are any indication of the health of gaming then this industry is in really dire straits.

Really underwhelming. Sony platforms are never a good fit for an exclusive demo, and I say that as someone who doesn't own a (working) Microsoft console right now. The download speeds are just too slow. Plus everything was so early in development. I mean, I can't even guess how many of the games will play, because they were basically just showing the engines off.

Probably the best way to describe PSN. Works fine 99% of the time but when anything interesting in any way occurs, it fucking dies immediately.

I gave Microsoft a 6-7/10 and I wasn't even interested in like any of their games. Gonna have to give this conference a 1-2/10. I wanted to watch all of every conference but I just couldn't keep my eyes on the EA conference. I was watching this thread far more than I was watching the conference itself.

Look for ntkrnl's thread on gaf. Pretty much that, some third parties, and a bunch of CG. There, saved you 1.5hrs.

OK ty, but I'm the kind of masochistic bastard that likes to watch these in real time, rather than get the highlights ;) I loves me some corporate awkwardness!

2 minutes of Star Wars pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha.
5 minutes of Dragon Age 3.
3 minutes of ME4 and new IP pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha.
8 minutes of Sims 2.6.
20 minutes of EA Sports.
3 minutes of Criterion new IP pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha.
5 minutes of Mirror's Edge 2 pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha.
10 minutes of BF Hardline.

Oh, and I managed to get my Hardline spot before the website was hammered.

Awful. Ubisoft is going to be boring too except for one game announcement that is going to be the best thing ever (aka Watch Dogs LOL). Save us Sony.

So, to recap:

- Dragon Age Inquisition
- Mass Effect
- Mirror's Edge
- UFC/NFL/FIFA/Madden
- Battlefield Hardline
- Battlefront
- Sims
- Criterion's new IP

Those were the games right?

A little safe, a little boring IMO. Nothing out of the ordinary imo.

Conference was fine, my expectations were low and just the footage of SW BF alone makes me happy.

Though the shrieks from crowd were most unwelcome.

soooooo

is anyone actually able to download the beta? Or is this error all smoke and mirrors along with the "gamers better hurry, the beta is only available for a short period" ending.

If by games you mean early conceptual prototypes, then yea.

Ok so I was reaaaaally bored during that. Ehh :/

+ Battlefront WIP footage looked UNREAL, it could have been a shot from the new movie (based on my fuzzy stream)
+ Bioware
+ screaming woman

- Sports
- Sports
- More sports
- Conceptual everything
- ONE new IP, 2 seconds of early talk/footage
- Battlefield: Hardline looks like a BF4 game mode.

I guess there's something refreshingly honest about showing early gameplay instead of bullshot CGI, but somehow equally unappealing.

Not enough video games for the video games, 4/10

This was the conference I was looking forward to the most this year outside of Nintendo, with Mirror's Edge, Mass Effect, and Battlefront.

I wasn't expecting anything grand for Mass Effect or Battlefront, just some short CG trailers of both with teases but I did expect a little more from DICE on the Mirror's Edge side of things and that was all "early prototype" as well. :(

Between this, the Conker bait and switch from MS, and no show presence for the JP console side of Square (FF and KH) I've been super disappointed this year.

What the hell at that press conference. So desperate for games they have to show prototypes? May as well show Battlefield 5.

2/10 since Dragon Age looked ok and I got to see the end of the NFC Championship game again.
