ok.... but again: this is early CONCEPT footage, no public trailer,
the design of the creature may have changed much since then.

but even if not, i like the current look. it´s somtehing "unexpected" and fresh.

Maybe, as the footage was running I was thinking that this could be the one PS3 game that I might buy a PS3 for, it looked amazing and then the CAT came out.

I actually lol'd it was such a shock.

I wonder why though? Reactions?
it will make people even more shocked when they unveil the official trailer, and see how much it has improved; give it a bit of context.

It also builds hype for E3.

Yeah, even if you don't like the design, you really can't fault them for being completely left field and unexpected with that design choice.

That being said, I doubt the overall design will change that much, if at all, from then to now.

the creature does look "strange" and a bit "lol" at first sight,
but i guess, that´s kind of intentional.

What are you going on about? It looked far too familiar and boring until the animal came out. That 'giant stupid cat', as you so eloquently put it, kicks all kinds of ass.

Definitely looked strange at first glance..but by the end it was so endearing.

I don't know how anyone could think it looked amazing before its appearance :lol The stuff between the boy and the creature and second half of the footage is what makes it.

Sony. They've managed to keep this game on lockdown this whole time and yet this trailer suddenly leaks shortly before E3? It's smart on their part since this is an old build and whatever exists now is likely much better looking. They're already generating a lot of hype from the footage.

If the creature grows it could develop horns, there are two bumps on his head that could develop into them.
That said, I hope it doesn't grow - both it and the boy are young and if it grows too fast it could become too "unrealistic".

Thanks wmat, unfortunately nothing happens when I click on the link (neither right click) :(
Hm, can't say why that is - I'll upload it for you, okay? Should take half an hour or so.

Interesting theory.

It looked really cool, until a giant stupid CAT came running out. Totally destroyed it for me.

Just like in Shadow of the Colossus. I was running around on a horse, raising my sword whenever I wanted to. Had the time of my life, when suddendly, I stumbled upon a giant 'action figure' with fur and hair.

I thought I was gonna run around and jump on stuff for the whole game, minding my own business, kinda like Ico.

When that hairy 'action figure' came out, it totally destroyed it for me. O_o

I like you.

The footage itself was on lockdown, but there had been whisperings for some time now about a video shown internally..with a description that matches up with this.

I'm sure Sony doesn't distribute copies of these vids to employees, which would make leaking very easy, though. So that does raise a question in my mind as to how this got out if it wasn't an intentional leak.

Hmm, could be it, at least the last part. :)

Regarding the catmonster.. At first I was like wtf? But when you see how the boy becomes friends with it you start to like the creature more and more. On the 2nd viewing I was already looking at the monster like it was a kitten.. Cute little bugger that you just want to pet. I think I''m going insane! :(

i think even from a "cinematographic" standpoint this footage is brilliant. the way it is cut, the use of ambient sound in the beginning, the musisc, the tension, the emotion it builds up.

Ueda handcrafts the NICO protoype mostly by himself if i remember correctly.
and it was also awesome to watch. this man has some serious talent on many levels.

Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, the animation is great. But it still looks like a Giant stupid Cat and is at odds with what I though I was watching. I think I was setting up for a serious-fantasy-mysterious-kingdom kind of game. And the Cat and boy interaction just not my thing maybe.

It does look like an interesting game, it seems to push the PS3. I wonder about the frame rate though.

What the motherfuck, I go to sleep, and here we are with a 100,000+ views, 1500+ posts topic already. o_O

Looks like a damn cool concept, hopefully E3 will bring more now.

I like you.

I'm sure you bought a game called Shadow of the Colossus, with a colossus on the cover, and only thought you'd be traversing environments looking for fruit.

FOOL.

I hope everyone aren't getting their hopes up about this looking OMG so much better when officially unveiled. It might look a little better, but when you combine all the animation, and scenes like that ride above water to the door entrance, and the lighting behind the creature during certain viewpoints, the game already looks stellar.

What'll look better is procedural stuff like those feathers, the texturing, the lighting and postprocessing junk. The animation work looks pretty final.

I believe this was an intentional leak as well. The timing makes too much sense for it to be a "leak".

I think this is a clear sign it will be officially revealed at E3. Playstationlifestyle has it on their predictions, plus they felt confident enough that Sony wouldn't react negatively towards them (or were allowed to leak it) due to showing it at this time.

Really? Nothing about this video strikes me as interesting. Perhaps Japanese cinematography is still pretty dull. It struck me as very bog standard.
