I'm not sure what to be more excited about. This footage or the fact that the game probably looks twice as good at this point.

Well now..let's not go overboard. I'm sure there's been some improvement, but I'd happily take it as it is in this footage :D

I watched that Miller's Crossing movie quite recently, on my pals stag do. We were all a bit mashed, but I remember that music - it suits the video perfectly. All I remember about the movie itself is Gabriel Byrne getting his face kicked in *constantly*.

This will be one amazing game.

LOL, me too I don't know what to think, the music is not as great as SOTC but I still buy it and let myself get immersed in it

You kidding? The trailer song is absolutely beautiful. Brings back childhood memories which is the purpose of the game: To feel attached to something, in this case a giant pet.

I'm pretty sure it'll be eye tearing.

Amazing animation. It's sad but reading this thread I have come to believe some people at GAF never spent a bit of time observing real animals. The way the ... whatever it is ... moves in this trailer is so much better than I've ever seen any animal move in any game, it's in an entirely different league. Everything moves like it (a) has mass, (b) is actually propelled by muscles, and (c) is moved by a creature with a mixture of bird- and cat-like mannerisms.

It's been mentioned many times, but the music was taken from the Miller's Crossing soundtrack (a 90s Coen Brothers film). It is place holder music all the way.

This looks fucking incredible so far, and I can't wait to see more :O

I wonder, if there are bigger monsters, will we have battles which involve the main character traversing his creature to get to the other (enemy creature?). Think of the implications of that; it's like SotC, but instead of just one monster to deal with you actually have your own as a starting point, and the enemy creature as an ending point :O

Can we just establish, for the record that no one here expects this game to be a massive system seller? Obviously we expect the game will be awesome, and it has potential to be one of the best of the generation. I'd hate for it to be used by the Xbots as ammo in their "Wait for..." meme. And we can point back to this thread as the one where people took the position that the game wouldn't "save" the PS3. Not that it needs saving.
won't sell systems. Hopefully will sell to every system out though.

I really wish that system wars would be left out of any discussion concerning this game. It's one of those "Hey guys, aren't games awesome" moments all gamers should be proud to see.

Gotta give props to Sony for just lettin Ueda do whatever the hell he wants. Screw the haters, its Sony that have been giving us the goods this gen in terms of uniqueness. One need only look at Flower and LBP, I bet Sonys first party studios love it.

Amen, took every word out of my mouth. I would state the same if a game like this came to any platform. I've said my piece yesterday but this kind of game just doesn't come along too long. It's an Ueda game, there is no other like him really.

And damn that youtube vid has over 125,000 views already.

And people, take tempy's word and don't nitpick tech from an internal video from a year ago.

Holy crap, looks amazing! The style carries straight on from ICO and SotC as well, it looks like a merger of both those games, almost as if the first two were tech prototypes leading up to the main product, TRICO.

Omg, looks amazing. I liked how the rat-bird already had a bunch of arrows stuck in his back. I felt bad for him already. See that's storytelling through visuals people, no need for walls of text. This year-old footage did more for me than most games manage during an entire playthough.

But someone mentioned that, that piece of music from Miller's Crossing is taken from somewhere in the 70's. So Project TRICO could use the music, as Miller's Crossing did it back in the 90's. No?

There should be a newer trailer too. Hopefully Sony will show that at E3.

I'm thinking TGS. Ueda's team is something like 50 people. With the additional complexity of a PS3 game I wonder how they'll pull this off in 4 years to keep up their "Olympic team" name.

I'm hoping for E3, but I don't think they'll show it (behind closed doors maybe).

No idea - I just remember it from the movie. It definitely works for the trailer.

With all the secrecy that surrounded this project, the fact that the concept trailer leaked days before E3 is too suspiscious. It would make sense if it was leaked on purpose to ready the audience for the official showing.

I heard its not coming out this year, in which case it would be 5 years inbetween SOTC and Trico

The music in the trailer is taken straight from the Coen Brothers' movie Miller's Crossing. We'll have to see if they decide to go for Ko Otani again for the actual score.

But why can't Team ICO use that music for Project TRICO, as they did for Miller's Crossing in the 90's. Afterall the music is from the 70's?

If it's like the previous internal trailers music is just a place holder. Ueda used Simon & Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair for ICO's CG pilot. I remember him asking GDC attendees not to record anything off it since they didn't license the track. They did use the song as inspiration for the game's theme though.

About gameplay, it looks like climbing/holding onto a colossus from Shadow of the Colossus while it's climbing ruins itself. No wonder all the NDA's.

I hope that I didn't come across like I was trolling the game. I'm in the same mindset. Sadly, it will get thrown in with GOW 3 and GT5 on the "wait for..." list. I thought it best to take a stand here. Sorry, didn't mean to derail.

Back on topic with the game.

I still stand by the beast being a metaphor for childhood that will have to be left behind by the end of the game. Notice the boy comes out of a tunnel at the beginning of the trailer as well.

i got watery-eyed because the music made me remember the miller's crossing and i cried a quite a bit with that movie :lol

"PieceOfNehNeh (7 seconds ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply Perfect example of bullshit little 360 fandogs lulz.

You can jerk off your doggy dick in front of your dog poop 360 console.

BTW, stop licking your own dog cum, makes you less retard. "

if it's a traditional folk tune then they could easily do their own version of it. if it originated in the 70s it gets more complicated with licensing and such, but if one thing's for sure it's that the song you heard in the trailer, being the miller's crossing version, will not be in the game.
in fact i'd make a confident wager that the song won't be present in the game in any shape or form. BUT given otani's track record i'm more interested in hearing his original compositions, as nice as the miller's crossing song is.

*facepalm*

So, basically, in the deepest, darkest depths of your soul you feel that this "console war" is important enough to put on record that this game won't save the PS3 (I like how you added that it doesnt need saving anyways), JUST so that the "xbots" will one day come back to this thread, looking for "ammo" (:lol jesus, stop me anytime folks), but instead find your post.

And there they run, those xbots. Look at them run from shame as there is no ammo here for them to...

Fuckin christ. Console wars? Seriously? GTFO of our awesome Trico thread of TUESDAY MEGATON.

EDIT: Just to make sure you come out of this post with a renewed sense of purpose: its a sequel to one of the most artistic, fun games ever created. Enjoy it. I wouldnt give a shit if this was on the 360.

I don't know, I'm personally stunned that we're even seeing internal test footage not meant for public consumption. Yoshida made a comment some time ago that Team ICO doesn't want to show the game until they feel it's ready.

it looked awfully boring. I sure hope that isn't the main gameplay focus. I want to kill giant beats, not play with my giant pokemon.

I have faith in Ueda's team to produce something more compelling and better looking than whatever that ugly mess was.

:lol "art style", it has fuck all to do with style. You could have the same style but properly modeled and textured. This looks awful, and the whole thing is highly inconsistent quality-wise. The head of the griffin is very realistic, the body's feathers look awful, the kid looks like a PS1 cartoon character, the environment textures have like 1 color and awful normal maps.

I'm thinking it IS just test footage, something that like Udea and two or three other guys did, but I really hope that they will take things seriously and try to surpass themselves graphics-wise in the end, and hire people who can do better if necessary. There's no reason why Trico shouldn't look as good or better than the competition after what they managed to do with SotC on PS2.

Soooooo, I guess this is the "secret PS3 game" or?
No, it isn't

It will sell just about as much as Ico/Sotc, and it will be just as awesome, and it will do nothing to help the PS3 since the Team Ico fans already bought it simply because they knew this was coming.

After Gaming Humanity letting us all down with both ICO and SoTC sales? I'm doubting even that which is a crying shame. Yea, i'm just grateful they were able to give us this. I'm not expecting anything past this one though unfortunately.
