Cool.

For all my bitching, I *am* hoping for the tablet that changes my mind, and this is one of the closest.
End of next year I expect an Nvidia Wayne powered Transformer that dual-boots Win8 and Ice Cream Sandwich

I love Android to death, but it has nowhere near the flexibility or software support of Linux proper, OS X or Windows. Take that with an implicit "yet" but there's a long way to go. Also, not a fan of the locked-down default nature (my android devices get unlocked in a hurry).

And I wasn't dissing the Transformer per se, I was (belatedly) chiming in on the comment that netbooks have no purpose now that there are tablets. Well, the Transformer with a real keyboard makes some ground there, but for most tablets are poor laptop replacements. The business model may not be supportable, but there's an certainly a role for them.
Again, File Management. Do I have to yell this until I'm blue in the face?!?!?

32GB Transformer and dock for sale. Used for about 10 hours or so. Not looking for a profit, available for retail price + tax + shipping to you.

It's a very nice device, I just don't have a use case for a tablet that justifies me keeping it. I did the same thing with the iPad (hooray for high demand enabling a free rental of new tech gadgets). GAF, you have one day to buy this before I turn to eBay.

Had my first lock up. Was watching a video and the screen went white. Had to restart the device. I tether it with my Epic, so that's nice I guess.

Comics look beautiful on this. If I get my hands on a decent camera I'll get some side-by-side comparisons to the collected editions I own.

The world (by which, I mean the industrialists) seem to want to push that into the realm of the apps tp handle-- which seems like a huge step backwards.

This is the reason why I want it. Need it sooooooooooooooo bad.

My keyboard/dock should arrive tomorrow or the next day.

So far I'm liking it, though i have nothing to compare it to. First tablet and android device. The screen is beautiful and the design is great. The back is a bit cheap (some flex and creaking if you squeeze), but looks classy. I just opened it so i can't comment too much, but here's a few dislikes thiugh they aren't serious.

Asus custom touch keyboard seems decent, but not up to the WP7 one. It has an autocomplete, but once you spell something wrong it doesn't offer choices. Also, selecting an autocomplete doesn't append a space, and there isn't an option to add to the dictionary. Wish the space bar was lower but i'll get used to that.

Screen is pretty reflective and gorilla glass can seem somewhat tacky making scrolling a bit tough. Hopefully a nice matte protestor will become avaialable.

I may have a stuck\dead pixel. I'll need to do some testing.

More impressions as they come, though I won't be able to mess around with it until later.

In case you didn't knew, you can download custom keyboards in the Market.

Yeah I know, though I'll definitely need to research to find what are the good ones out there.

Gotta go run some errands, but I'll be looking into the following to start off once I'm freed up later:

  • best browser - (I'm under the impression that's Dolphin HD, but I'll look around)
  • best keyboard
  • get Netflix running if currently possible
  • get Hulu running if currently possible (sounds like it can in Dolphin with a special version of Flash)
  • get HBO GO running if possible
  • install Kindle

Any major app recommendations?

Check out sleeplessninja's Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/sleeplessninjas

Almost all the videos in this channel is about Honeycomb (Moto Xoom).

I'd like to know about the word processing options on Android. Can anyone offer insight on an app that can create .DOC documents?
PolarisOffice is included with the Transformer. QuickOffice & DocumentsToGo are other notable ones. Because Honeycomb 3.1 is officially supporting mouse & keyboard, I excepted to see productivity apps taking off beyond what's available now.

PS: Love your avatar!

Documents to go is what I use. Its expensive, but I bought it when they had a 50% off discount going on.

*the default gingerbread browser is pretty damn good (and syncs with chrome)
*i think the xbm forum has the netflix app, not sure how compatible it will be.

So ... looks like i do have a single dead pixel. What would you do gaf?

It's fairly centered, but not too noticeable. I'll watch some videos tonight but i'm curious what you would do?

I wouldnt do shit until there is a more ample supply. At least until like 1 day before your return warranty is up.

Or sell it on Ebay for $550-600 with no mention of said pixel....

Dead pixel (black) or stuck pixel (white)?

The latter might fix itself with use.

UPS always waits until the end of the day to stop at my shop. We always schedule pickups in the late afternoon, so they always bring packages late in the afternoon.

No transformer for me yet =*(

Edit: So this thing is kinda heavy...... the first two comments from two people as well.

Likng it so far, waiting for the charge so that I can update the firmware. I really miss a trackball style cursor on any device with a touch screen.

It's nice to have that row of numbers at the top but after a day I switched to the default Honeycomb keyboard. I can type pretty close to full speed on it.

I thought it felt a little heavy at first, but you get used to it. It is one of the lightest 10" tablets available.

Anyway so far ... I'm loving it. Other than spoilers not working, stuff like GAF is a joy to view. And even heavier loads like Engadget run really well. This thing is brute and will only get better. Also, the GMail app is really laid out well.

Admittedly stability ain't there yet. I had one reboot (youtube going haywire), and some apps crashing here and there, but it ain't too bad. From all reports 3.1 will really help in this regard. Plus performance improves a lot - which is impressive, because overall the thing is already pretty speedy. UI is decently quick, and the better apps run quite well.

One thing that will actually really get a nice boost is Flash stuff. While Flash 10.3 is already available, the GPU acceleration to take advantage of it isn't there until Honeycomb 3.1 releases. I'm looking forward to it since HBO GO, while playable, doesn't run particularly well compared to dedicated apps.

Some apps to try out:
  • Pulse: Absolutely gorgeous feeder for Honeycomb. Looks and performs great, and even integrates with your Facebook wall links.
  • Google Earth: Just wow.
  • Amazon MP3: Runs awesome. Looks a bit barebones, but who cares? Only skips I heard were when browsing pretty high-load websites. Otherwise it runs great. It even offers lock-screen controls the show album art (though it's a bit low-res).
  • Weather Bug Honeycomb: Yeah it's a weather app, but it looks damn nice.
  • CNN Honeycomb: Unfortunately it's kind of buggy, but when it's working right it's got a nice layout. Hopefully the issues will be addressed.
  • HW Solitaire (TegraZone game): If you don't mind dropping a fiver, it's got a ton of modes and looks fantastic. Really nice graphics and animation.
  • Dead Pixel Test: If you want to test :p

I actually haven't had much crashes on here, but that might be because I'm starting from a new account as this tablet is mostly for work.

Eems stable enough for me but I just discovered some edge bleeding =/.

Gmail is very nice, so much so that I'm not liking having to use the web interface the rest of the day.

The market is one buggy piece of crap. Looks nice but buggy.

While I have a dead pixel or two, I'm pretty lucky on edge bleeding. A little bit at the bottom center and the lower left corner. However it only bleeds up as far as the task bar / button pane. So when watching 'full-screen' video, it doesn't actually bleed into the content.

Yea its not too bad if I keep the brightness down while inside, which needs to be done anyway. I would fucking kill to have ckholer do a multi pane webapp like gmail....drool...

Raistlin, did you go 16 or 32 gig?
I grabbed a 16GB. While i wouldn't mind the bigger model i'm not sure i can justify the up-sale.

Figure i'll just use a mSD card for most media needs. 16GB should be plenty for apps and games in normal usage. Plus it's not like i really needed this to begin with :-) it's mainly for internet, email, and eventually as a media controller. Plus maybe some dev work. oh and as a terminal for my PC when doing stuff like transcoding, rendering, whatever.

Quite happy so far though. Can't wait for my case and dock to show up!
