EGX: How terrifying is Alien Isolation?

Couldn't resist peeking at the Nostromo showcase; it looks and sounds terrific.

Very much looking forward to this game.

That was a great read op.

Thanks, I'm getting worried for the game because it seems like the least talke about for October, and it's coming in a bit more than a week, so I thought people would like to know this kind of things.

Sounds amazing. Guess I'll add this to the list alongside The Evil Within, Bloodborne and Batman: Arkham City when I get a PS4.

No. The majority of the film took place in the Nostromo, which was towing the large ore refinery. It looks like one entire ship, but it wasn't. The smaller ship they used to land on LV-426 was just dragging the larger one through space. The only scene that took place in there, IIRC, was the scene where Brett meets the Alien.

Nostromo

Ore Refinery

But isn't the whole thing referred to the as the Nostromo though? I always thought the whole thing was the Nostromo, so consider my mind legit blown if it wasn't...

The bigger a pussy you are, the more terrified you will be. We need an objective scare scale. hur hur. You gonna get that scare factor equally. We need scare credentials. Did they watch Jacob's Ladder or not?

Anyhow, I like the dynamic music score they came up with. About time Sega brought back Skies of Arcadia dynamic boss battle music.

I don't know with this whole VR shit and Aliens. Aliens is rapey enough. Do we really want to make it more rapey with our simulated first-person rape by an alien jabbing its tongues into our mouths and shit in VR?

How rapey is Alien Isolation?

When are AMD sending out codes for their 'never settle' offer? Hoping it'll be before the game comes out so I can get the bonus content.

I've asked in another thread, they seem to have canned vr support but left headtracking in the short demo that ships with the game?

To answer your question, yes, I want that... what is so appalling about that?

So you want a magazine shoved into your virtual mouth? Like should we add some technology that makes your throat rumble when this happens? Isn't that disturbing? Are you asking for it?

Take a break and come back to gaf once you've come down from your rocket fueled high :P

Played the oculus rift version at egx. the demo was very short, but I did get to play the non oculus version at a previous event too. Oculus kit was still one of the low res ones as well. In terms of the actual game it was okay, although i question its ability to be able to keep the hiding / survival mechanics fresh throughout an entire game. I also question its replayability. Hope I'm wrong on both accounts.

They never really promised VR for the final game, it was just a prototype (they even talked it in the session). They do mention that they are going back to the studio and see where they take it from here. Specially since there was positive feedback.

Well shit.

I must have watched the movie a hundred times and never picked up on this.
It's probably most clear when they disconnect Nostromo from the refinery before landing on the planet. That's the ship and the huge refinery they leave in orbit is what they're towing.

Have to admit first time I watched it I took entire thing as Nostromo and figured that was their (still large) landing module. Later on I twigged while rewatching it.

I expect to die a lot in this game, and the dying part is not why I look foward experiencing such games in VR. It's the part where you look around with your head to see if you are safe, what's in the next corridoor or up in that vent. Having the alien run at you with the perceived scope of vr must be terrifying... I love it already. I actually don't really care how explicit the gory details of my deaths are going to be, that's just the animation of the continue screen and prep time for the next try as far as I'm concerned.

You don't seem to get that the whole Alien motif is about rape. This game is worse than RapeLay. The more immersive the tech gets in making of this game the more it will feel like actual rape. This goes beyond the Alien movies since games>movies.

This is the elephant in the room here, guys.

I don't think it's really rapey, just tenseful. You can rest assured Vert.

When I purchsed Thief via Never Settle, I got code day or two before release. I dont know if you will get bonus content, codes are maybe for ordinary version.

... Excuse me? I know this is likely a joke, but these are getting too close for comfort.

I honestly feel stupid for not making the connection until it was pointed out by ezekial45.

This feels like it would become frustrating, but I noticed a button prompt, so it seems like you might be able to fight it off? Scratch that it's a hold to hide prompt, which seems pointless when the Alien has you in its grasp.

Also, I felt like I was back watching Alien. That's a perfect recreation right there.

Direct hit from the flamethrower will force Alien to flee and not attack for 6-10 secs (enough for player to find cover). However, player cannot kill it.

Yeah, I knew that. I was hoping there'd be a way to fight off the Alien when it grabs you from a vent, but it doesn't seem like that's possible.

I feel something like that could become very cheap/annoying, very quickly. Hopefully it's used sparingly.

I just hope the alien doesn't cheat - no droopy dog moment where you run away, lock a door behind you, turn around and he's right in front of you again.

I played the demo.

The game is super atmospheric and genuinely scary until the alien gets stuck in a table corner and just keeps running in place.

I love the clip of the Nostromo level, that is going to be an intense mission. This is my most anticipated game this year and it's only a week away, I can't wait. Thankfully Shadow of Mordor and Smash Bros will help pass the time.
