Shift+F1 = Save State = Working fine for me on a Mac.
Could use this as a work around for now.

Tomato recommends VBA-M, a fork of the VBA project with improved sound and a number of other nice new features: http://vba-m.ngemu.com/

If you don't mind futzing with a configuration file and a command-line interface, mednafen is also quite good and has the best sound emulation of any currently available GBA emulator: http://mednafen.sourceforge.net/

Yes. Excellent emulator (and it'll hook you up with other systems, like PC Engine, in the process.) If you're on Linux the command line aspect shouldn't scare you too much.

I gave Mednafen a shot last night actually and everything worked as it should. There were a few weird problems like my mouse cursor suddenly appearing and refusing to go away (while in full screen), but I'm sure I can fix it with a little bit of fuddling around. If you're running Linux there is no reason not to use this emulator.

While I'll probably go back to the command line (to make some custom launchers), there is a person working on a front-end GUI for mednafen. I'm not sure how feature-complete it is yet, but if your squeamish with the CLI, definitely check it out: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mednafenfe/

I seriously love all of those pictures, but I've got to single out the Wind Waker-style ones as being especially awesome. The style works wonderfully well for Mother; and this fan artist arguably does the style better than Nintendo's own artists.

Agreed 100%. It just fits. The style blends seamlessly with the original source material, and I frankly think that this is probably the only way to more effectively convey the MOTHER 3 world in all its quirkiness, beauty, humor, sadness, and wondrousness.

(...Which would be quite a task in and of itself, since the original is near-if-not-perfect anyway. :D )

The developers themselves commissioned full English, French, Spanish, and German translations of the game for the purpose of communicating it to Nintendo of Not-Japan. It did not pass their quality examinations. According to our source, the plot was “too serious”, to a point betraying the graphic design (cartoon-like). There you have it: Nintendo, champions of the everyman, flag-bearers of the non-gamer, proponents of “change”, have paid a kill fee to a small game developer in order to guarantee that their “too serious” game with literary themes will never be published in the English language.

WHAT? Wow...

Well I cant wait for Earthbound to release on the VC. Maybe the mass purchasing of that will help the series pull a Sin & Punishment.

Though the reliability is questionable, as was previously mentioned, the fact remains that such an act would have been a heinous crime indeed.

But about VC, that's what we're all hoping will happen. These games--MOTHER 3, in particular--really transcend so much of gaming today that they truly are wonders to behold. We want more!

This is going to be such a magical weekend.

Never mind the fact that I JUST RE-PLAYED THIS GAME (bought the official JP version) like a month or two ago. Being able to see what Mato and the others did with the translation will be basically worth the time all over again.

To some degree....I envy the lot of you who will be playing the game for the first time through this means. :D
