I didn't pay to upgrade most of my Wii VC games to Wii U VC mode. I wonder if I'll need to do a double upgrade process and that will still be cheaper?
How many PS3 games can you play on PS4? Serious question.
For those wondering about NERD, they've made some great stuff so far:
Yup. Not touching their VC shit until it's account based and playable across systems.
They did carry over for free, you only had to pay the upgrade fee if you wanted additional features.
I guess the real point of interest is: upgrade from where? The lineage is kinda murky now and they could conceivably be bought independently on different platforms.

Im assuming whne you have your switch linked up to your account you can see all the VC titles you purchased from both Wii U/3DS. Upgrade from there.
Beats paying full price. They do have to engineer a different emulator for the new hardware, so I get it.
Who says they're not doing that for Switch? This upgrade fee is for games you bought on Wii U.

I'm ok with the Upgrade fee one more time as long as it's the last. With Switch these games need to follow the user on every Nintendo system.
They aren't going to sandbox Wii Mode again, so I would guess this would be limited to Wii U VC purchases. Games upgraded to the Wii U VC would be eligible I would assume.

I think part of what Somnid might mean specifically is whether only Wii U VC can be upgraded, or if 3DS VC can as well. We don't have any clear idea of if games exclusive to 3DS VC (GB, GBC) will be playable on Switch VC.

Switch is a totally new console, and how often you've been able to play your digital games on a next generation? Ah, someone already made this argument...
Things were muddier on Wii U, because you could always use the Wii mode to play the games you already bought. It kind of didn't made any sense to take money to upgrade, but then again it was purely optional. Switch is totally different from that.
They're a little dark but I don't know that they're as bad as people say, and apart from that they're not bad... you can always adjust TV brightness, the GBA games for example are much darker in screencaps online than on my TV's default brightness and look very good.

That is pure unadulterated crazy talk.If they don't charge it, soon enough they will be losing money on VC.
I wonder if NERD working on the VC will actually improve the rate at which games come out, for all platforms.
If I recall correctly Nintnedo typically would design an emulator for each game specifically, rather than an emulator program for the entire platform, which was apparently done in the name of quality. But I really don't see why designing a single emulator for each platform and then releasing games in bulk running on those emulators would sacrifice any bit of quality.
NERD being behind this makes me hope they understand how to do VC far more efficiently than whoever was behind it previously.
I'd be angry about the upgrade fee if Sony didn't show what happens if a company has no financial incentive to keep a library going.
The lack of PS1 and PS2 Classics (outside of the handful new PS2 games for double the price) is still probably my biggest gripe with the PS4.
Just like last time, amirite?Lol the upgrade fee will be like 5 bucks.

That's good to hear. Now the only thing to worry about is the release schedule of these games (especially in the NoA territory). I don't want to start from the bottom with NES black box games and wait months/years for the good stuff yet again.
My Xbox One plays the majority of my digital 360 collection
And without a bullshit upgrade fee too.

Yeah, it's a absurd. 😩It's scary to see how many people are wanting to throw money at Nintendo with these BS upgrade fees. Can you imagine the backlash if Apple charged you to upgrade your apps when you buy the latest iPhone, iPad, iMac, or Apple Watch? Stop pandering to this crap.
No incentive to do so when you get millions of users paying $2 to upgrade.I'll pay whatever but God I hope this is the last time.

Geez, I at least hoped that the upgrade policy would be something like a fiver to cover everything at worst.
Even that was wishful thinking.
Try again. The people complaining about this clearly have no idea how Nintendo has treated the virtual console previously.
