Evolution 2016 lineup revealed, includes Pokken, doesn't include Street Fighter IV

Put SFIV and Melee finals on Saturday. Or put Wii U on Saturday. So long as both games aren't on Sunday for variety

Variety is nice but if they want the most viewers they put both Street Fighters and both Smash games on Sunday. It's as simple as that. Smash 4 on Saturday last year was ridiculous.

It's not true at all though, Stream views are still beaten by both Marvel and SF. Smash is definitely a big part but it's not the main draw by any means.

EVO 2015 main stage peak viewer counts

• Ultra Street Fighter 4 - 248,663
• Super Smash Bros. Melee - 211,393
• Mortal Kombat X - 190,535
• Ultimate Marvel versus Capcom 3 - 177,057
• Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- - 131,337

KI will probably get in because of Microsoft cash money

true.

Put SFIV and Melee finals on Saturday. Or put Wii U on Saturday. So long as both games aren't on Sunday for variety

definitely agree with this.

Melee & Ultra -> Saturday
SFV and Wii U -> Sunday

Could probably run KI and Tekken 7 Finals on Saturday

Sunday finals would be:
Xrd Revelator
MKX
UMvC3
Smash (Melee or Wii U)
SF5

Switch Xrd and Tekken

If variety is an issue, they could probably do one Smash/SF pair at the start of Sunday and one pair at the end. I think Melee and U should both be on Sunday, but I agree that having them both be back to back would be crazy.

The Saturday-Sunday split will be more interesting than the lineup, really. Especially with two Street Fighters and two Smash games in the mix. I have a feeling USFIV and Smash 4 will be Saturday and SFV and Melee will be Sunday.

I'd like to see both Smash games on Sunday, but I don't think it will happen, and Melee gets more views. SF will probably have some overlap so it would be nice to give the players rest in between games.

SFV, Smash 4, MKX, KI, UMVC3 and GGXrd are locks. Wizard prefers the newest iteration of a game series and those are the latest. Oh and money hats/legacy/favoritism etc.

Big questions are inclusion of SF4, Melee and T7. T7 was already dubious as fuck last year. Wiz already put out polls asking if people would be fine with the newer versions only of those games. I think if he takes out SF4 then he will take out Melee and vice versa.

Mr Wiz seems intent on having 7 games this year. I think Melee might end up making it in but he cuts SF4 because he said that SF players are more willing to move on to a new game.

They could do this. To me it doesn't matter as I would watch regardless if it's Saturday or if It was split between morning and evening on Sunday. I think there will be overlap especially with Street Fighter players, so hopefully they won't be fatigued if that were to occur.

Think it'll be wholly contingent on whether Wiz wants to guarantee a good turnout for Japanese players. If yes I see USFIV being at best a side tourney with a Saturday finals. Melee should be considered a separate exception since again, that's a game with very little overlap and if any Smash is going to get precedence then as much as I hate to say it, Melee's chances are better.

Why would T7 be in if it hasn't released on console. I doubt anyone is Tournament ready For T7.

T7 was in last year, they ran it on arcade cabs. Evo is an international tournament and T7 is huge in Japan so they want to attract that crowd. Also Namco is a huge sponsor.

e: Also I would not be surprised at all of T7 PS4 comes out in June or something.

They ran it last year. They had a good amount of setups provided by Namco. Also Madcatz traveled with the game to most of the bigger tournaments throughout the year.

Genesis 3 was last week. Melee had 110k viewers and 1840 entrants vs Smash 4's 1098 entrants. "waning" lol

Melee will be back. It's the biggest fighting game right now. Even Street Fighter doesn't get 1800 entrants at a non-Evo event. Melee has numerous 1000+ entrant tournaments every year.

Street Fighter V will obviously be the main event. Ultra, Smash 4 and Melee will return because of the crazy numbers they did last year. Marvel will be back because it's Marvel.

Beyond that it's a crapshoot. What if Pokken blows up big between now and Evo? Imagine the salt if three kiddy Nintendo games make it onto the lineup?

These are fucking INSANE numbers, lol.

If both Smash games make the cut and only one can make Sunday, Melee will probably get that slot. They aren't blind, they're aware that Melee brings in more stream viewers.

As for entrants? Melee just did 1800+ entrants in a non-evo event, does street fighter even manage that?

I don't understand the "variety" complaints.

you know you can get out of your computer chair and walk around and do something else if there's a game you don't enjoy on stream, right? Evo is not superglueing your ass down and forcing you to watch games you don't enjoy.

It's a business. More views = more $$$ for the Evo team. The most popular games should be on main event Sunday. Simple as that.

No, I'll whine on the chat every time they stream a game I don't like!

I'm mostly interested in the SFs and SSBs, so I'm cool with those being streamed on Sunday :P

Does Ultra even crack 500 entrants at majors these days? CEO had 377 entrants for Ultra. Melee had 466 and Smash 4 512. I'm having a hard time trying to find entrant numbers for other majors.

I can't conceive of them cutting Melee; even if it saves them a huge hassle logistically that game is huge. Last year it had the second highest stream views, third (barely) highest player registrants, and has multiple 1000+ entrant tournaments a year including one that just occurred that had 1800 players. I'm indifferent for Melee and even I would have a what the fuck moment if they cut it. If it came down to Melee vs USF4 I think Ultra should get the cut (salt would be hilarious).

My guesses are...
  • Street Fighter V
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV
  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Killer Instinct
  • Tekken 7

It's likely this + Pokken exhibition or at the very least a demo booth

If it's anything other than this, I'll be shocked.

Ultra Street Fighter IV, Saturday final
-Probably a decision Capcom wants, shines focus on SFV

Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Sunday final
-Wiz loves him some Mahvel

Street Fighter V, Sunday final
-no explanation needed

Smash games, Sunday finals
-MAX CPM

Xrd, Sunday final
-Early bird final

Killer Instinct, Saturday final
-Playerbase is too small to warrant a Sunday final. :/

-Tekken 7, Saturday final
Same as last year pretty much

-Mortal Kombat X, Sunday final
WB money hat B O Y S

Three Saturday finals, six Sunday finals.

Thing is that's in part due to being around longer and getting the Sunday slot. If you put Smash 4 on Sunday it's very likely it will get comparable numbers. A part of those numbers are people waiting for the next finals to start as well. That's not all people that only want to watch Melee. It's people watching the final day/finals in general that are there. I've always felt saying Melee alone is responsible for those numbers is wrong. Numbers aren't going to fall off a cliff on Sunday if Smash 4 gets the slot.

I'm fine if SFIV gets phased out, but just not yet. SFV can have the Sunday spotlight, but it's too soon to drop it when SFV has only been out a few months.

No. Six finals in one day is super much.

Saturday in order

KI
T7
Melee
Ultra

It feels like Ultra and Melee will start on Friday, whereas SFV and Sm4sh will start on Saturday. Speaking of which...

Sunday in order.

Xrd
MKX
Sm4sh
UMvC3
SFV

The real difficult part with EVO is where Top 32 of SFV/Marvel starts and where Top 8 of Ultra/Melee ends. Should be an interesting schedule.

Genesis 3

Melee: ~1900 entrants
Sm4sh: ~1100

Viewership peak

Melee: ~116k
Sm4sh: ~85k

I don't remember the exact numbers but I remember the overlap between SmashU players and Melee players being insanely low. I don't see either one getting dropped.

Calling it now: Melee stays, for Wii U gets dropped.

No way in hell Wii U gets dropped. Melee is popular yes but if any Smash gets dropped it would be Melee. It's older. Smash Wii U has clearly proven itself and it's meta has been maturing. There was a concern it wouldn't but it has. It's easier to setup as well. It's numbers are very good, especially during big tournaments. The potential player base for it is far larger then Melee. There is far more character variety during tournaments even into the finals. If Nintendo is sponsoring there is no way they allow Smash 4 to be dropped in favor of Melee, a game they no longer sell and no longer care about selling. Melee can be dropped if games are to be limited. It's a matter of when it happens. There will certainly be a backlash though. Without a doubt but that would happen regardless of when it happens. I'm not saying I want it to be dropped just that it's the Smash game I see possibly being dropped if one has to.

No smash is gonna be dropped unless both smashes are getting out of EVO, Melee has the numbers and WiiU the contract with Nintendo

Melee almost always beats Smash 4 viewers at majors though, including tournaments where both games get a Sunday slot.

For example, the most recent national tournament for Smash [biggest smash event in history] had both Smash 4 and Melee on Sunday. Although Melee had the last slot, the tournament was running late and thus Smash 4 probably had the better time-slot. Melee still ended up with tens of thousands more viewers.

My guess:

SFV
UMvC3
KI
MKX
GG Xrd
Tekken (7 or TT2 I guess?)
Melee
Sm4sh

Running SF4, SF5, Melee and Sm4sh at the same event would be too much I think and who would drop going to EVO just because SF4 isn't there if 5 is?

Don't understand where this talk of dropping a smash comes from, as long as both pull in significantly more entrants and viewers than most other games, they're both getting in. It'll be the same situation with SF4-5 if both games pull in similar numbers.

If there is an issue of time, space, and a desire to have variety then something has to get dropped. Especially when you have two series possibly represented by more then one game. That's two slots that could possibly go to games that haven't been represented at Evo before and might deserve to be seen by the masses or could make a return due to a resurgence in popularity.

Street Fighter V
Super Smash Bros Melee
Super Smash Bros 4
Ultra Street Fighter IV
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Guilty Gear Xrd = REVELATOR -
Mortal Kombat X
Tekken 7

Will kii a bit if they bring back Killer Instinct and I can't at some of you still bothered by Meele and Sm4sh being included even after all the participants and views that both games bring to the event.

What I don't see happening is giving the 2 games the Sunday because the massive meltdowns that would cause.
