I am going there tomorrow (I guess now it will be cancelled). I might have dodged a bullet. What would happen if decided to buy a ticket for today? Fuck this shit. I have enough of this. I am shaking like crazy and about to lose my fucking mind.

Get hold of a loved one, if you are feeling that bad you shouldn't have to face it alone.

My mom and sister are in that airport what the fuck.

Fucking hell, we're kurdish you pkk assfucks

That must be horrible :( It's going to be agonizing, but if you can resist you should hold out until they contact you or at least until the site is cleared, trying to call if they are hiding could put them at risk. I hope you also are able to not face this situation alone.

I don't think the Kurdish case will be resolved until the Kurds are allowed to have a socialist society free of Turkish oppression.

How do you know most of them want that (bolded)?
Also they have probably the same claims toward Syria, Iraq, but also Iran.

But in any case, I assume this is an ISIS attack.

This is awful.

It sounds like the police were about to catch them and made the terrorists carry out their plans prematurely. It probably could have been a lot worse if the bombers detonated their bombs where they were supposed to, instead of being forced to detonate on the spot.

The police are heroes for stopping them from doing more damage.

The amount of coverage this is getting is actually pretty high when you compare it to most news these events get when they happen in Muslim majority nations.

Airports you would think would get more coverage. People from multiple nations were probably there at the time of the attack. It's the perfect place to hit if you want to terrorize multiple nations in a single attack.

Probably because Turkey is not just any Muslim majority nation.
And also that's the 3rd biggest airport in Europe.

Here's why:

Fuck. Major terror attack. Why aren't Sky or BBC covering this?

the same exact reasons this thread will get nowhere near as many posts as the ones about the Brussels or Paris attacks. The West has a "but it happens all the time there" attitude towards attacks in Turkey or the Middle East in general.
It's sad but true.

It's not fun because next month I'm gonna be flying through there again. I regularly fly through Brussels as well.

Damnit people, stop blowing shit up!

I hate Ataturk Airport but this is horrible.

Sad but it's not exactly untrue, I mean there's a list of attacks a few posts above I never even heard about this year.

Yeah no way this will get rolling coverage. Got to get back to Brexit. Sky have already cut away from it.

Dutch news site reporting 28 deaths now. Source is an government official of Turkey.

There's a video of security footage of one of the explosions on the internet, you see a lot of people running away but the blast does not seem that big i think(luckily)

is there a reason it's happening at airports? are they really easier than other places?

I still feel it's just the idea of things happening that fuel people, a lot like school shootings.

This makes me a bit afraid to travel, I eventually have to but I will be looking around at everyone like a freak.. sucks that the world makes it this way and I have my own issues that cause me to think too much.

With all the issues we already have, it is truly terrible we have people doing these things
I think it's to make people scared of flying. Make a bigger impact when it also hand foreigners and hurt the already strained tourism industry.

Hope the injured pull through and Turkey (and surrounding areas) gets more stable.

I am in UK. I have no friends, my girlfriend and I ended our relationhship and I have been trying to recover from that for the past three weeks. I've been suffering from stress, chronic migraine attacks and literal heart problems and I am pretty sure I am in a depression.

Also one of my friends works in the airport. All of my friends checkedin via Facebook thing expect for her and I can't reach her.

Edit: ^^^^^ Damn that sucks. I hope she's just stressed and checks in soon.

This seems to have been the entrance so people transferring should've been unaffected. News here saying luggage is scanned before passengers can enter the airport. I understand your fear though :/

Yup, luggage gets checked at the entrance and at subsequent points further in the airport terminals later.

Security lines present a opportune target for attacks. Bunches of people who have had no security checks and tend to be in long lines with nowhere to go.

That's quite an impact

NSFW Video:

Turkish Police at the airport shoots one of the terrorists, while the terrorists is down he detonates his suicide vest.

This Police is a fucking hero.

that's awesome (in terms of the police taking the terrorist out making his detonation a pathetic suicide that probably killed no one)

Is the guy who went to the terrorist and then ran away (probably because he knew he'll detonate) the guy who shot him?

Yeah.

He sees the terrorist is going to blown himself up so he smartly decides to run away.

God knows how many lives were saved.

Hero!

I wonder why he didn't kill him with his gun instead. Running away is probably the natural reaction in such an extreme situation.

This piece of shit probably got some satisfaction out of blowing himself up.

My guess would be the Police wanted to take him in alive wounded for questioning. No idea.
