Nope, it's out, it was too confusing: season challenge is the new career and it's limited to 10 races.

Oh man, as if the shit AI isn't enough ahahaha

Edit: That link is a bit confusing.

From the Gamesmaster review:

'Still, even bottom-line lessons are welcome because mastering F1 2012 takes time. The Champion Mode challenges and arcade-y Season Challenge (ten five-lap rounds against a rival of you choosing) offer instant-thrill action, but the career mode is long and uncompromisingly tough.'

I heard they also removed the cars too. Instead you run on the track like a lemon.

The HRT special edition gives you the ability to run as a cucumber.

Unbelievable. Codemasters should just quit making F1 games if this isn't just a miscommunication. Not having a full season mode is complete incompetence and unexcusable.

Wow, seems like he just doesn't give a shit lol. Surely only like <0.05% of the people that play this will want to do a full season as one particular driver rather than career mode?

Oh man, as if the shit AI isn't ahahaha

NOONE should be buying this unless you plan on racing online 100% of the time

Yup, league racing is the only reason I'm buying this.

Actually to be perfectly clear, you can still do the "Live the life" mode where you gradually go from 1 team to the other (you start with the shit teams), of course.

But you can't play a full season with any driver/car combo, the "Custom GP" mode is gone.

Oh no. I actually quite like the game this year but, and it's a huge but.. the AI is still so damn slow at least on the hard challenge. Supposedly there's a legend AI option in the full game but if it's either way too quick or not quick enough (or worse yet, speed isn't consistent but varies from corner to corner like in F1 2010, I skipped 2011), we have another game likely ruined by lack of AI options. every Forza, every recent NFS, almost every AAA-racing game fails in this department and for an offline racer like myself (for online racing I go iRacing, all other racing games are pretty much offline games for me), it just kills the whole game. If Forza 4 had 10 different options for AI strength, that would be enough. If F1 2012 had something like beginner, very easy, easy, medium, hard, very hard, legend, Senna as difficulty settings, it'd offer proper challenge for everyone. As it stands now, I like the game but I might never buy it.

AI options developers, AI options! Listen to Warren Spector, he requested better AI just the other week instead of prettier graphics.

What? I would say the big majority just wants to play as their favourite driver or with their favourite car.

Most people don't care about career because they don't want to drive the worst cars, they want to be Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso or Karthikeyan.

InsideSimRacing posted a video with the AI on Legend and while they are much quicker they are still dumb. Also they can't make corners outside the racing line no matter the difficulty level.

It seems the AI Difficulty level just changes the "Target Lap Time" for the AI not the way they drive and approach corners.

I didn't realise he would have much of a following. Moreso than Massa I guess.....

So does this mean Custom GP is out entirely? So I can't do one race on it's own? All so confusing with this lack of information......

To be fair, that's what the season challenge is supposed to be, but it's limited to 10 races.
So it's a bit of a trade off, you get to play whoever you want but only for 10 races.
If you want the full 20 race season, you have to do the career and go through the ranks.

As far as I know, you still can, it's the "Quick race mode" but it's limited to 1 race.

It's all quite confusing... again, massive lack of information and you still need to guess your way around the actual features a week from launch.

Looks like it's just Time Trial, Quick Race (1 custom race), Career (several seasons), then the MP/online stuff.

I only used to play Custom GP and Time Trial modes along with online.

Season challenge are 10 5-lap races. It seems like an arcade mode for casuals with the problem that most casuals also want to play every race.

Can't really understand why Custom GP would be removed. It's not like it wasn't there before. F1 2012 |OT| 2010 - 1

Just did a 22.9 at Monza without being a corner cutting slut like that other guy. Feels good man.

Time to turn my attention towards Abu Dhabi.

Loving the OT, pretty much sums up my feelings of F1 2012, hoping the game has some support post release and/or the game has been thoroughly tested prior to release

Haha, I am absolutely stunned that the bollard collisions are still so broken.

If they couldn't (be arsed to) fix it, why not just remove the bloody things all together? It's not like anyone would miss them.

I bow to the God of mediocrity and Vodka.

And ice cream. But to be honest, I bow to Mr. Smiley, aka Mr. Crashy.

Other forums are saying the handling is an improvement from 2011 - I am cautiously optimistic, whilst at the same time well aware of what happened at the beginning of 2011.

Confirmation that they've removed Grand Prix mode:

Grand Prix mode removed from F1 2012, Codemasters confirms

Grand Prix mode, the mode which allowed players to create and compete in a full F1 season as an official F1 driver, has been removed from F1 2012, Codemasters has confirmed.

Concerned F1 fans picked up on the possibility of the mode's removal over the weekend, after a tweet from the game's creative director Steve Hood suggested that players would no longer be able to play a full season as a real-world F1 driver.

This afternoon, Codemasters confirmed to VideoGamer.com that was indeed the case, but that players can still compete in a full F1 season via the game's career mode as their own created character.

"In previous games you could create your own F1 season in the Grand Prix mode so you could, if you so wished, recreate a season and play as an official F1 driver," Codemasters told us.

"The Grand Prix option has been replaced with Quick Race this year so you can jump into a one off race much easier, but you cannot create a series of races.

"The championship is now solely part of the career (up to five years) where you create your own driver and move between teams – the teams available to you at the start of your career are dictated by the difficulty level."

The option to create a full season of races and compete in them as an official F1 driver had been available to players in all of Codemasters' previous F1 titles.

It's not known why the mode has been removed from F1 2012.

In addition to Quick Race, F1 2012 introduces the Young Driver Test, which teaches new players the ropes of Formula 1, and Season Challenge mode, which offers a series of challenges for players to compete in.

F1 2012 launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC next Friday, September 21. A demo of the game is available to download now on Xbox 360, and on other formats later this week.

You can only have so many modes, so they HAD to kick out custom GP mode for the young drivers test.

They really didn't though. It's a glorified tutorial and could easily have been something nestled away in the menu's, whilst giving you a prompt when you start a new game. It just reeks of Codemasters' cutting corners as per usual.

The whole young driver thing is not only a cheap addition for a headline on an annual game but it's actually bad. Who gives a shit for a mendatory tutorial. You have to suffer through it once and never go back again.

It's TERRIBLY done:

excel ‏@EXCL1_
@T4RG4 Does the demo teach you on how to use the brake rear/front I dont understand when to use it/advantages of using that particular one
Steve Hood ‏@T4RG4
@EXCL1_ If you don't know what it does you are probably not going to be faster with it.
excel ‏@EXCL1_
@T4RG4 should of added it to the YDT
Steve Hood ‏@T4RG4
@EXCL1_ We can't add everything and specialist toys are perhaps not the point on this years YDT. If you watch F1 you'll know what it does.

I've put over 400 hours into F1 2010 and 2011. I've watched F1 for years. I don't really know how to use the brake bias. Instead of actually including something useful and advanced, they just make you go in a straight line and brake. Fucking genius.

Wow, I'm in the same boat. I've been following F1 since 2000 and still don't know exactly how to work the brake balance. And also, what a terrible way to talk to your customer. T4RG4 is so full oh himself sometime, ugh.
