Fallout 4: Pete Hines Defends His “Solid 30 FPS” Comment...

Pete Hines must be made of shit, so much BS spewing from him.

I like the guy, but not his PR(ness).

Huh?

Is this like a Stockholm Syndrome for Bethesda game fans or something?

No, they have a reputation for developing incredible products that are poorly optimized.

Theres a difference and the degree to which performance impacts enjoyment will vary wildly from person to person, which is why people still buy them

This I agree with.

Can't believe that Bethesda constantly gets away with this. They have a reputation for developing shoddy games yet people still wait in lines to buy their products.

I'm glad people are giving Besthesda shit for these horribly optimized games. Skyrim was embarassing on the PS3, like absolutely god-awful.

BULLSHIT DETECTED

What a disgraceful arrogant way to treat your customers. I am amazed this guy can spill so much bullshit and still retain his position.

Oh shit, that bad?

So these issues in FO4 will likely persist for the foreseeable future?

If you are getting it for one of the consoles. I'd wait and see if they patch it within the next week or so. I don't think it will take as long to address these issues like it took for them with Skyrim on PS3.

Does starting a new game fix his issue? That shit sucks. Gamebreaking bugs day one....yup it's fucking bethesda

I didn't try that, but I don't think so. The bug is completely persistent when reloading the game. Limiting fps to 60 in riva tuner statistics server or not interacting with computer terminals in the game makes it possible to move on though, so I guess we shouldn't be so harsh on Bethesda ... :(

I'm pretty sure that Hines can say such straight lies at people faces and defends them so poorly, because after all is said and done, the game will still sell millions of copies.

And seeing Steam numbers, you guys totally deserve it.

Didnt take long for someone to post, "its not so bad guys".

Can someone tell me if this game ever gets to Skyrim PS3 levels of unplayable?

Fallout 4 is a lot better than that pile of garbage.

Skyrim on Ps3,even after all the patches, is a near unplayable BROKEN game.

Fallout 4 performs much better on both consoles than Skyrim did on Ps3. Both Xbox One and Ps4 has slow downs, though not skyrim levels, and the Xbox One version has a weird bug that causes the game to hiccup every once in awhile randomly.

From what little I played (on PS4), it wasn't exactly smooth but it wasn't unplayable like Castlevania PS3.

But 0fps on Xbone? Come on, that can't be true.

Why shouldn't they be arrogant?

Consumers and reviewers have told them time and time again that they can release shoddy software and still get 8s and 9s review scores (even some perfect scores, too). They will still sell 10-20 million copies. For fuck sake they released a broken game on the PS3 (Skyrim) and STILL got heaps of praise and massive sales.

Bethesda have every reason in the world to be arrogant.

I got called out today by someone who INSISTED to me that the PS3 Skyrim issue was overblown and that "we don't have the numbers" and that my criticism of Bethesda games technical performance was irrational and that I was an "entitled malcontent" for having the audacity to ask for better QA at launch.

... I very clearly remember watching the Spike VGA's in November, seeing Skyrim win Game of the Year... and that very same day I was trying to play it on my PS3 and it wouldn't work. Keep freezing and crashing.

Yeah, they have no reason to fix anything so long as critics shower them with the highest awards they can possible give them and people buy millions of copies, all while versions of the game are quite literally in unplayable states.

Thankfully, it doesn't sound like Fallout 4 is AS bad... yet. We'll see after some time has passed.

It's linked to framerate. If you literally play the game at higher fps, animations and the like actually run faster.

You can literally play the game as a "Sonic mod" just by having a monitor with a high refresh rate. It's hilarious.

Video proof to my claims, by the way.

Yea, the game hiccups randomly from time to time. Been conflicting reports on how often so probably random. Game is probably having trouble loading textures.

All he has to say is "It's 30fps to me because I don't notice any drops" that's it.

Trying to convince people that already have evidence of drops otherwise is stupid.

Take the L Pete.

My goodness.

I am sorry, but this is unacceptable in late 2015 with such old tech (shit should be refined and polished by now). Like, how do you let this slip on PC of all places knowing framerate is king?

But free pass to them, again, all around. Polish the shelf for the next set of awards.

He has spent the last few years playing the game. I'd assume his comments are on the lines of, "hold on one sec, I'll roll out the red carpet for you".

So far it seems to be the most stable game at launch they've released since oblivion, but time will tell. We will have to wait and see as more and more players get to higher playtimes.

Well the "solid 30 fps" statement is not true. If things gets chaotic with some explosions in firefights the framerate gets noticeable down on consoles. Just had two cars blown up and got some nice slideshow to enjoy (and no it was not the Jet that I took before).

We really need to work on our definition of "unplayable". I played through LoS just fine. Yes, the game dropped frames, yes, it made some fights/QTEs a pain. But you guys go too far sometimes, seriously.
But 0fps on Xbone? Come on, that can't be true.
From what I've read and the videos I've seen, it seems like the game completely freezes for about a second and then starts again. Basically it skips during one second. Zero frames per second. It's not constant but it does happen. That doesn't make the game unplayable either. It's just annoying I guess.

Interesting. Based on this, would you recommend never going over 60 fps cap under any circumstances? (unless you want speed mod)

Stick to 60, I guess.

Unless there are parts of the game actually designed for 30, but I'd fucking hope not..

And reviewers never find these tech issues. Its like they are blind to them.

Edit: And every gaffer who gets the game early is blind to it. Well, mostly.

I've been part of NeoGaf for a short amount of time and one thing that really bothers me is the amount of cognitive dissonance some people adopt for some games, but not others. Some games get a pass, some games get slaughtered for the exact same reasons.

People cry how AAA publishers are bending you over a barrel, but automatically ignore last months/years outrage for a game that interests them.

Broken/locked framerate? Check.
Dumbed down game mechanics? Check.
'Jankiness'? Check....(I hate that word)
Very real possibility of paid mods in the future?Check.
Community managers/representatives of the companies being disingenuous? Check.

"But it's fallout and Bethesda has always done it"....Oh, okay. Can't wait to read about how derivative next years CoD/AC/Batman game is....

"Sales numbers are in, and we are glad to announce we can halve the number of QA staff and reduce number of programmers working on console optimizations for FallOut 5. Heck, we sold so well that we're regretting we put in as much work."
Official Bethesda Sauce.

I don't know how some people can be like they make great amazing games but are okay with playing it in the crappy state that it's in?

Like, what if they never patch this game? Are yall still going to be like GOTY? Come on... That can't be possible.

This is precisely what is going on here. It is like, even the fans do not want them to improve. I just do not get it.

I can understand some ports being like this, but the ones that come to mind are Japanese franchises with next to no major history on PC, like Tales or Way of the Samurai.

Fallout first and foremost is a PC franchise, so how this was overlooked would astound me, if it were not the fact this is a Bethesda game. Basic core elements to their games often seemed overlooked in terms of consistent mechanics, so more technical ones must be multiverse-level of confusing to their staff.

This is the same company that said spears couldn't work in Skyrim due to "engine limitations", correct? Even though modders accomplished it in what could be called miraculous, divine-like time of only a few weeks!

Get used too it.

I was really that naive to think 'Oh well, graphics aren't great, but at least it'll run solid 30fps'

Feeling soooo stupid right now for thinking and expecting that.

I'm not really in the know about this stuff, but how come no one ever seems to call Todd Howard out? He always seems so beloved by people. Wouldn't he be the guy to actually address this instead of some exec who is only in charge of PR and marketing for the game?

Is it cause of his boyish good looks?
