Looking around on forums and stuff, instead of the biased critics like Polygon, I do hear the ending for this game is pretty shit even by Far Cry standards, which is really disappointing to hear.
You know EDGE reviews are basically all just anonymous freelancers right? Sure it's a cool magazine for gaming history articles and the like, but the reviews are themselves kind of garbage because ultimately at the end of the day if it's a poorly done review (and there have been plenty of those in its history) there is no accountability on behalf of the writers. At least with Polygon and Waypoint, you know what you are getting in terms of their inevitable political angle, and can account for it, EDGE...who the **** knows. As long as the copy is good they'll print it, regardless of how poorly of a job the actual reviewer does. Case in point, IIRC EDGE gave the original Witcher Game 5/10 which was the games the lowest score. All fine and dandy (EDGE is notorious, for being hard), but what was egregious was that to anyone who'd played the game, it was clear from the text of the review that the reviewer hadn't even gotten past the first couple of chapters and into the game proper before submitting their copy.
I would argue that there are to 99% no games journalists around since they are more like hobby blogger anyway so who cares?game reviewers are not journalists they are enthusiasts.
Feel the same way. I respect what 3 and 4 did, moreso 4 than 3, but i did not find myself going back beyond the story. Farcry 2 is still my fave. This one looks promising tho.To be honest i didn't like 3 either. Maybe these just aren't my kind of game, heh
A 6.5 from Polygon.
As for why the story is bad...well
That's kind of dumb IMO. The review, not the story. I don't see what a game about a radical doomsday cult has to do with the current nature of US politics. Unless you are equating conservatives with cultists, which is a pretty shitty statement. And I say that as a liberal.
Haha. That's great.What a burn.
Whats' with Austin Walker’s review.. A large portion of it is talking about racism and Trump. It this what games “journalism” is all about these days? Trying to out PC other reviewers? A competition to see who can look down on their readership the most?
Waypoint as well as Polygon can't do review of games without inserting their own political agenda. Its pretty much why Waypoint & Polygon youtube channel sucks and don't get much views compared to a one man show like ACG, or newer channels like Laymen Gaming.
GPU benchmarks:
Polygon just got....
I am confused, didn't these people hire Ben Kuchera to run their "Penny Arcade Report"? I would have assumed they were pro-Polygon.What a burn.
I don't care about politics or circlejerk websites, all i want to know is if the economy in the game is broken or not. SkillUp complained that constantly paying for ammo and the small size of looted money pushes you into the microtransactions, others have said it's not intrusive. Can someone here give me their honest opinion?
How many hours are we looking into including sidequest ? Do you guys think its worth picking up on ps4?

What bothers me about these political reviews is not that they come from openly biased sources, but rather that they are pretending that they didn't already know that Far Cry is just an over the top and pretty silly game series. Acting like they are disappointed it did not provide a thoughtful and nuanced exploration of American culture relevant to today's issues is laughably disingenuous.
Polygon is having a hard time coming to terms with the political themes in this game, they docked the score on that basis. 6.5/10. Waypoint is bleating too. Nothing like journalists who never set foot in Montana being upset that their stereotyping of the state isn't portrayed.
Safe to write these clowns off in the review department.
I know Austin isn't having an issue with Montana not being what he thinks it is. It clearly sounds like the game doesn't make ANY statements about anything at all! Like clearly the people that live there and are shown in the game have actual thoughts and beliefs. How about showing those beliefs in the game and not just have 10 lines and then forgetting everything else.
And yet alright still got butt hurt about Wolfenstein 2.
Absolutely.I've never played one and I've always been tempted since the crazy sandbox style seems right up my alley. Which one to start with? FC3?
Entirely enjoyable and playable without spending a dime or feeling the need to. The only time you are "pressured" to buy something is if you are either A.) Impatient and want that item right now or B.) Want to collect every single skin in the game (which I am unsure if that is possible at the current time with the amount of silver you can get).
I will give props to anyone who can detach their personal political beliefs from review scores. If they cannot, like Polygon, then I give them no attention and try my best to avoid giving them clicks even for guides. They are entitled to review games however they want, but I likewise choose to ignore reviews that focus on politics over gameplay.
Because it's far cry. The focus was never the story or characterization, why should that change? From what I gather the gameplay is better than ever, as is the environment. The story is up to far cry 3-4 standards. Also, no towers to climb.
The devs did go to Montana, and study locals mindset there, the towns, the history. It's reflected only in so far as to give the game a theme. Giving it a political stance is not the way you do entertainment. Alienating half your audience is not the way you do profit driven business.
These journalists are upset that the game isn't pushing an agenda that reflects their own. Well good. It shouldn't be pushing agendas. The setting is merely a vehicle for somewhat satirical mass entertainment, not for a political treatise on current affairs as they are perceived by one end of the political spectrum. Ubisoft Montreal wanted to make the game they wanted to make. So they made it. The end.
That shit isn't even journalism, it's just... I don't even know man, I'm just really grateful that I'm not their target audience.
Because sometimes we would like for the content creators to "graduate" to the next level to make it a better overall game or movie (in this case game). Just because the characters might have had a different belief than me, doesn't mean it would alienate me or others that think like me. It'll be okay to treat the gamer as a grown up.
It's not about agendas at all. But if this is the game that they wanted to make fine! But it's okay for others to not like that and want more. It's cool.
So you didnt feel like your money isnt enough to buy ammo, weapons and vehicle (not counting skins and with a normal amount of saving)?

Sorry, it doesn't explicitly lay out the case against conservatives and evangelical Christians, but I suppose you have to leave something for the DLC (and I think the subtext is still pretty obvious).
