Fastest you've completely abandoned a $60 game after purchase

I got the 99$ Digital edition of The Division thinking I'll spend hundreds of hours in the game world.

I played 3 20 to 40 minute sessions and told myself I'll go back at a later time.

I'm never going back and I'm never buying Ubisoft ever again.

The Division.

I'm really surprised how quickly and how easily i gave that game up. I was expecting something and just got something entirely different.

It feels really odd to drop $60 on a videogame and then just be like "nah, dont think i wanna play today" over and over again.

Final Fantasy 12. Played it for ~2 hours and absolutely hated the battle system. Never played the game again since then.

Forgot about this one (and Final Fantasy VIII, which I also wound up hating and gave up on quickly). I even foolishly bought the Collector's Edition of FFXII. I own up to the fact that I didn't follow the game too closely before it launched, so the shitty battle system took me by surprise when it shouldn't have. I was done with FFXII after about 90 minutes.

At least the shit that was Final Fantasy VIII was less painful because the Dreamcast had come out at the same time and I had plenty of other games to get to after realizing that I'd basically lit $50 on fire.

Dragon ball Xenoverse. Fan of Dragon ball, I came in hoping for a solid fighting game with some looting, but everything is just numbers, very little skill required. You can use the same combo to stun lock every opponent until they introduce the BS super armor.

Watch Dogs.

I got past the first mission, explored the world for an hour or two, but never went back to playing it.

What a coincidence OP. I came to this thread to mention how I abandoned Dishonored 1. I didn't enjoy the gameplay at all. So for me Dishonored 1 is for sure the fastest $60 game to abandon.

The Evil Within for me. The game ran like crap on ps4, even with the black bars. One of these days I will return to it though.

I played through the game 70% with 2 of my friends and 30% with 1 of my friends and I enjoyed it. However, I cannot imagine playing it solo. It will not be as enjoyable.

Same game as OP except I only refunded it for the bad performance.

Waiting for a patch and then I'll buy it again.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The gameplay seems fine, but the world is a pain to navigate and the story is pretty stupid so far. I've been playing it for about five hours...and I have to real desire to go back to it. I occasionally jump back in to try and convince myself of money well spent, but I just can't.
The game is ambien.

Destiny. I didn't know it was just Call of Halo Duty. Hated how someone with less skill plays for 200 hours and is awarded the one shot kill gun. "Pay $15 a month so someone who plays 200 hours a day but sucks will kill you over and over again regardless of skill" Dumb.

Fell out of my chair laughing at this one. Apparently Destiny has a monthly subscription fee now...? Whomever you're paying, they're scamming you.

Also, that "one shot kill gun" you got hit by? That wasn't a CoD-esque killstreak bonus, just a Super ability. Your character has one as well. Use it.

I do wish I had some sort of time-travel device so I really could play 200 hours a day, though.

Usually if I pay 60 or more for a game its one I'm certain of liking so my only choice in recent memory is nms. I played a lot for the first day or two until the loop became clear as day. After that I kept it longer then I should have playing like an hour a time. Nms defence force convinced me I had to get to the colored stars before I gave up so I played like an hour a day for a week before I could get to one. Jack all was different so I dropped it right there.

This year alone for me...
  • Bioshock Collection. I told myself I'd play through the entire collection from 1 to Infinite and the DLC is order....but the first game plays so dreadfully and the audio is so shit that it was chore to play and half way through the first game I quit and deleted it.
  • The Division. Played through the entire story and getting to level 30...and then got fed up with it. The loot system seemed rather pointless when you had nothing to use it on and the end game was shit. Coincidentally all my friends dropped it at the same time.
  • Street Fighter V. Played it during the first 2 weeks of release and the lack of content along with network issues and rage quitters meant I lost interest super fucking fast which was bummer considering how excited I was for it. Never been back since.

Few from last year too including Fallout 4 and MGSV.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

I wanted a competitive game for the Wii U that I could play forever (or at least until the multiplayer servers shut down), but smash is just not my cup of tea.

Dead Island
Galactic Civilzations III
Assassins Creed Syndicate
Dragon Age Inquisition
No Mans Sky

Common thread among those, for me at least - all felt incredibly thin. (especially compared to previous entries in their series and/or expectations based on trailers, previews and buzz).

Dragon Age:inquisition.

Sad to say I only lasted about 2 hours. I was completely burnt out with rpgs at the time and despite liking the look of it I just couldn't stomach the 60h+ I'd have to invest to finish it so traded it in not long after. In hindsight it was a bit of a stupid purchase.

I actually bought the game again this Friday for £6 in the PSN sale. I'm planning on playing it after I finish Skyrim and Divinity Original Sin... by which time I'll have RPG burnout and the cycle will start again ad nauseum.

Nights of Azure.

Game has less production quality than most $30 games. I'm still mad about it.

Wasn't even slightly surprised to see the price tank in weeks.

No mans sky lolol.

But seriously try and see if you can check the first dishonored out first. I hated that game too at first and slowly trudged on and at a certain point, all of it clicked and I absolutely love it (still playing through it). See if that route might work for you and then come back to dishonored 2.

Yea I can relate to this. I love stealth games and the first time I played Dishonored the 1st 2 hours I hated it. I completed the first proper assassination mission then retried the level to try a different way. About 3 hours later I was blown away. Was still replaying the 1st mission and still finding new ways to complete it. The freedom of choice was amazing. Now one of my favourite games (I was always a bit biased against it as I thought it looked like a poor man's thief but how wrong was I lol)

Definitely try a bit longer (assuming the freedom of choice is still in 2)

For me probably GTA V. As soon as I heard the siblings arguing and one calling the other a "gaper" I shut it off. I normally don't mind, but this game world was so sleazy I had to gtfo.

These days I play all my games I buy, however 1 go of Drive Club VR and I was done... Felt sick and had the sweats. Traded it the next day, only lost £2.

Uncharted 4 - Installed and never launched
Rainbow 6S - Completed the tutorial, never played a match online
Fallout 4 - Dropped it after 10 hours maybe

Guild Wars 2. 5 hours. Died naked in a cave. I'm done.

Witcher 3 as well. Everything about that game felt terrible. It was a fun vampire for me.
