Favorite Anime Trope?

I could quote half of this thread. But have something new.

Gainax pose. Bonus points if a mech is doing it.

actually predates a lot of Gainax shows

what is an iconic thing though is Obari pose

Training arcs
"In order to stop you i'll unlock my final form that lasts only 5 minutes that will leave me in a vegetative state or kills me" notable recent examples: Rock Lee, Maito Gai, Gon Freecs.

I really like the characters in Battle Shounen who have their eyes closed most of the time, but when they open it, shit is about to go down.

also hyper exagerated facial expressions :

Pastel-chalked freeze frames at the end of an episode:

Real answer

Delayed explosions via laser beam.

These would be my picks, especially the bolded ones

+ close friend dies/gets hurt to potentially die pushing the main char to super sayian.. I mean power up and body the fool that hurt their friend.

Would be interesting to see the reverse of this topic lol

Awakening/epiphany scenes, where—in a crucial moment—a character realizes their inner potential or a critical truth that solves their current dilemma. Combine them with dramatic music and flashback scenes to make them all the better.

THIS TECHNIQUE IS SUPER TABOO, WILL CUT YOUR LIFE IN HALF, CAN ONLY BE USED ONCE A DECADE, AND MUST BE USED AS A LAST RESORT

*spams it every 10 seconds 10 chapters/episodes later*

oh wait no i don't

Overally exaggerated straight man characters like Shinpachi from Gintama or Bosson from Sket Dance for example.

The way they react to the actions of the other surrounding characters is often funnier then the initial joke.

I was to post this.

THE GOAT TROPE

Oh well, I love bloodlust moments. You know, when Hisoka goes crazy and start drooling for Gon. One of my favorite mangas, Hoshi no Samidare give us a fantastic moment of this trope... just for the MC ignore the situation and go to his home (that would counts as a trope, I guess)

More of a premise trope, but I like stories where people are transported from the present day to a different world/time period. Something like Twelve Kingdoms.

It doesn't appear often, but:

Character A befriends Character B. The two have to separate for some reason but promise to reunite later that day/tomorrow/sometime soon. Character A ends up getting into a battle with a new enemy and destroys it, not realizing said enemy was actually Character B (who was also unaware of who exactly they were fighting). Character A may or may not ever realize what happened to Character B.

For examples, refer to

- RahXephon episode
19
- Outlaw Star episode
20
- Tiger & Bunny episode
15

That reminds me:
Two friends are separated, maybe with one turned evil. They end up teaming up again, and despite all the time spent away from each other, they are still able to fight alongside each other perfectly. Bonus points if a side character exclaims this. This happened in Captain Tsubasa, Naruto, and Gintama, off the top of my head.

My absolute favorite is when the underdog who no one thinks anything of gets to rock his powers and blow minds in front of an audience. Helps if the audience is full of people who looked down on or thought little of.

The spilt screen reaction shot! I live for it!

Combined with a hype theme playing and the power of friendship and an epic battlecry and the final desperation move and IT'S JUST TOO HYPE ASJFLAKDHAJAKDKSKSJSSFSS

I generally hate long-winded, dumb explanations. Worst i can think of was that high school shounen show (yeah that one) where the oni-sama dude did one cool thing that lasted five seconds but it took him 20 minutes of the rest of the episode to explain how he did it in the most dry monotone way possible.
However, there are some like in Ippo where a punch is thrown then it takes like 5 minutes of monlouging and the entire crowd's internal thoughts for it to land. I like when its taken to an absurd degree but still manages to hold some suspense, Ippo is pretty masterful at it tbh.

Also a recent one in vogue trope i guess, maybe not anime specific, but i like the guy who has fatherhood suddenly thrust upon him. Like Usagi drop.

Almost every trope in this thread has an entry on TVTropes.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThePowerOfFriendship

The fool who no one takes seriously and suddenly, that characters shows his/her real powers and takes the enemy and allies by surprise.

Some examples are Urahara or Isshin in Bleach. Hei from Darker than Black too, but we as the audience, know very well how awesome he is.

Or the Heart of the Cards.

Internal monologue.

Personally, I believe the fast and the furious series capture the feel of internal monologue at times

THE ROCK SAVES THE HACKER NATHALIE EMMANUEL AND MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ BY DRIVING AN AMBULANCE OFF AN OVERPASS INTO THE DRONE BEFORE RIPPING OFF ITS GATLING GUN AND COVERING VIN DIESEL BEFORE THE LATTER RAMPS HIS CAR OFF THE PARKING GARAGE INTO THE HELICOPTER, YET MISSES AS THE PILOT DODGES IN THE LAST MINUTE, YET THE ROCK'S ANIME-STYLE INNER-MONOLOGUE ABOUT HOW VIN DIESEL COULDN'T HAVE SIMPLY MISSED RAMMING THE HELICOPTER AND MUST HAVE HAD A GREATER PLAN IS PRACTICALLY AUDIBLE, AND HE SHOOTS THE BAG OF GRENADES VIN DIESEL TOSSED ONTO THE HELICOPTER.

My actual example (which I assume only happens in Japanese-language anime and not dubbed):

When a character (usually female) is staring at another character and demonstrates how intensely they are focusing by saying out loud: "jiiiiiiiiiii" (which means "stare")

I always laugh.

Itano Circus /

A tactic wherein a military vehicle or craft — often a Humongous Mecha — launches a massive salvo of missiles at a target (sometimes more missiles than you'd think the craft would be able to hold). The missiles often follow artistic curving trajectories for no apparent reason, though strategically it may simply make them more difficult to dodge (or intercept, if there's any usable point defence). Occasionally, this is explained in Space Opera as the effect a ship's energy/force/gravity field has on the missiles. In some cases, this is justified by having the missile silos oriented up (or down) to allow for more surface area-and, in turn, more missiles. If More Dakka is about spamming bullets, then Macross Missile Massacre is the missile equivalent of it.

Nichijou. One of the most underrated things ever.
It's a very hit or miss show. The misses will be either "whatever" or make absolutely no sense, and most of them didn't make sense in Japanese either.

But the hits? I have never laughed harder at an anime than some of the shit Nichijou pulls. It's criminal that it bombed in Japan, especially when you can tell the studio put a lot of love and effort into the show. It's the prime example for the "needlessly detailed/fluid/epic animation for a comedy scene" anime trope.

Yo what are these from??
The gif link looks like it might be from one of the Evangelion ReBuild movies.

The embedded gifs are from Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, a slice of life show where a dragon goes to live with a human woman as her maid. The gifs are just the main dragon and her dragon friend "playing," so the gigantic energy beams and dramatic explosions are part of the joke. I like the show, but be warned that the fan service is generally very off-putting to non-anime fans and brings down what should have just been an otherwise sweet comedy.

It's kind of ridiculous the production value they poured into the show. Like the soundtrack is from a former Ghibli composer.
